Category Archives: 5 miles

Last day of the work week for me!  Thursday’s are run days for me.   I snacked on a couple pieces of protein waffles with jam before hitting the gym.  This was a nice snack.  It’s also good to know this recipe does well reheated in the toaster oven.

I ran with a download from jogtunes that was a 45-minute jog with a sprint section.  I did 10 minutes past the podcast and ended up at 5 miles today.  Felt really good.  I am surprised my hammies weren’t sore from the dead lifts yesterday, but I’ll take it!  Also as a side note, Robin from Running Circles Around the Turtle did a running Q&A with me for her blog.

Came home and made some oatbran today.  We got a new protein powder from Puritan Pride.  It’s soy and strawberry flavored.  I avoid sucralose like the plague and it was not on the ingredient list for this powder, and then after I made this bowl, I see that it has acesulfame potassium in it, which is another type of artificial sweetener.  Grrrr….  Tastes way better than Splenda, though, although it made this bowl very sweet to me with only a 1/2 scoop in there.  It has beet powder in it for color, so my oats were a little pink:

Also note that if you make the ricotta/protein powder combo – the soy versus whey makes a huge difference in moisture content.  Here is some made with soy powder.

I actually had to add some water to get this consistency, too.  It almost looks like ice cream, doesn’t it?  Just a heads up.

Regarding all that chocolate from yesterday, almost all of it is up high and out of reach of my hot little hands 😀  Just the bars are in the pantry, which I am okay with (for whatever reason – who knows how my mind really works).  The nuggets are what would be most problematic for me, so they went up last night out of reach:

Lunch time included a fun combo.  I knew we were going out for dinner and I wouldn’t get my broccoli, so I had it with lunch today.  I made an egg/egg white puff in the microwave and put it on a corn tortilla with laughing cow and topped with hot sauce!

Yum.  I love hot sauce.  Those are some peanuts on there.  I was nibbling those while I cooked.

Work went pretty smoothly this afternoon.  Always nice to end on a good note for the week 🙂  Of course, snack time always makes things better.

John doled me out one treasure to eat with it.   Then I realized I didn’t have any fruit with lunch, so I got a kiwi out.

Tart!

Since it is my Friday nights of sorts, we decided to have an inexpensive dinner out.  That means one of our favorite local pizza spots: East End Eatery

We both started with a side salad, which was really small, I have to say.

And then we split a cheese calzone.  Normally we get the pizza wraps, but decided to go for this one.

I usually guesstimate about 500 calories or so for the 1/2 calzone.  It is soo good here.  The staff at this place is really friendly, too.  I am very glad John will split one of these with me, because I could eat a whole one myself, but it would be way too much.

Trying to decide how to spend my night now, either a netflix or just some vegging in front of the TV with my jammies on!

Question: Are you a Splenda lover?

Under the sea! AKA shrimp for dinner

** Don’t forget to enter the Attune giveaway **

Tuesday run day!  Since I did 3 miles yesterday, I did 5 today (usually 6).  Pretty standard treadmill run.  I was checking my Daily Mile log and I have run 152 miles since January 1st! 😯   And I don’t consider myself a runner first.  Interesting….  My legs felt pretty good.  Normally they are a little tired on Tuesdays after a Monday lifting session, but no lifting this week.  Can I say that I miss it already?  I need to get that lifting FAQ post going, if I can get some extra time…

After the run, I decided on waffles for breakfast!  You know how I love them.

Got started right away with work and I had a little help for a good share of the morning.

Sometimes she is so durn cute.

Cereal has come back into the house in the form of Kashi Go Lean.  I am okay so far with it (of course, I just opened the box).  Here it is mixed with plain greek yogurt, cinnamon, and strawberries.  Yum!

Actually, this Kashi hurts my gums a little bit because it is so crunchy.

I worked on a lot of endocrinology reports today.  That means a lot of patients with diabetes.  I still can’t get over how many medications some people have to take – as many as 12 different kinds in a day.  How do you keep that straight?  Unfortunately, it seems as though many patients just won’t change their diet.  Some do and the results can be quite amazing.  The right food and exercise can really be the best medicine you can take.

Afternoon deliciousness!

I sucked this one down in a hurry, and had a couple of these:

(recycled picture alert!)

Seafood for dinner.  I wanted more protein and a lower carb dinner, so that meant a non-veggie source.  Of course, the chicken was still frozen, but then I remembered the shrimp in the freezer.  That takes just a couple minutes to thaw.  3 ounces = 20 grams of protein! I sauteed broccoli in coconut oil, then added the shrimp, some slivered almonds, and BBQ sauce!

With a pear on the side dusted with cinnamon.  It’s funny how I am not a fish lover, but I loves me some seafood!  Crab is my favorite (especially the claw), then scallops.  I have to confess that I like my shrimp breaded best.  😀  Does shrimp have Omega 3?  I guess I should look that up.

The best part of my day?  Going out for coffee with my hubby!  John and I went out to Starbies for some caffeine and chit chatting.  It’s like date night 😳

Question: What is your favorite seafood?

5-miler and blood donation

Happy Thursday and the last day of my work week!  Yay!  I *finally* will get 2 whole days off in a row.  I need it.  Headed off to do my run at the gym.  I put on some music from the jog tunes indie podcast and just used that to do my different speedwork with.  That was fun.  I normally use this outside to help me keep a pace.  It’s easy to do on the treadmill 😀   I did 5 good miles today and it felt great!  I am surprised my body wasn’t a little more sore from the shoveling yesterday.  A little in the back, but not bad.  John said he had “shovel back” today.  Shhhh… don’t tell anyone, but he needs to be lifting weights….

I had a little trouble deciding on a breakfast today as I just wanted to eat!  I wanted blueberries, though, so that meant protein waffles!

I am randomly going to answer some of the FAQs over the next few days:

As a NWOL4W veteran, how did you track your progress? Did you update charts each lifting day? Are there any aps for this?

I tracked my progress using the charts at the website.  I just printed out the forms and used those.  It was kind of neat to see how I progressed over time.  I brought those sheets with my to the gym and recorded my weight tallies as I did them. I don’t know as there are any apps for something like that.  Go NROLW!!!

For lunch I was wanting something kind of sweet, for whatever reason.  I decided to make a PB and nana wrap using a Smart Carb tortilla with 1 tbsp of PB and half a banana, plus a drizzle of chocolate sauce.  I then pan grilled it.  It was quite good, although a bit messy.

After more work, it was time to do one of my civic duties!  Blood donation.

There was no line today, which was nice.  I think the weather scared people away, although it was just raining.   I was pleased that my iron was good (hematocrit) at 13.1.  My blood pressure was also pretty good at 118/68.  A little higher than normal for me, but it goes up a bit for donations because I get a bit nervous.  Travel safe to your new home, little blood cells….

After donating, I restocked that iron with raisins!

I so wanted one of the cookie packs, but they were the really caloric kind – to the tune of 300 calories for 1 pack!  Probably full of trans fats, too.  Ah well, the raisins were good.

Dinner time and I felt like some shrimps 😀  We had extra in the freezer from our Mardi Gras dinner, so I cooked some up.  Mmmmm…. pressed and formed shrimplets.

I love how using smaller dinner plates makes it look like a huge amount of food.  We are on the 3rd pound of strawberries we bought on Sunday already.  Guess that is why John calls me a fruit Hoover.  🙂

Working later tonight as I had to flex hours to donate blood (better be getting some good karma back, I tell you).  Then it will be time for the weekend!

Snack time – one of my favorite combos is dark chocolate chips and something salty crunchy – like these whole grain Wheat Thins.

There is some chocolate under there!

Question: What snack texture/taste do you like? Crunchy, smooth, sweet, salty?

Running and food experiments

Ah Saturday. I get to sleep in just a bit since my gym doesn’t open until 8 am. I had a pre-run snack of dates and almond butter.

If you haven’t tried this combo, you must.  It’s delicious, particularly if you have the soft medjool dates.

Passing some time before leaving the house always means self-portraits!

Thank goodness for hats, or Medusa would be heading out to the gym 🙂

Hopped on the hamster wheel and busted out 5 miles.  It felt really good.  Do you ever have those days where you just feel in great shape?  I was feeling it today, and I loved it.  I am also feeling those harder chin ups from yesterday, too.  Soreness down my sides (in a good way).

I was craving some protein waffles for brekkie!  I don’t know why this same recipe tastes different as pancakes versus waffles.  Or maybe it is just in my mind.

I had a lovely package arrive from a secret bloggy valentine.  I don’t know who it is, though!  I have a last name, but that’s it.  It had some wonderful pampering stuff in there.

Thank you!!  Scented with coconut lime. You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up – sing it with me!  I used this in the shower today.

I came up with a cool recipe for lunch today.  I had some rice pudding during the cruise.  Rice pudding has always been a favorite of mine, but I hardly ever make it  (not exactly sure why that is).  Anyway, we had some cooked brown rice in the fridge and I had an idea for a quick rice pudding:

  • 1 individual container of vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 20 grams of chopped raisins (I had a mixed grape color type)

This was really good!  It had some of the yogurt tang, but the overall texture was good and packed with protein.  I think some ground pistachios would have completed it.  Next time I will mix it earlier to let it sit and meld for a while.

I had to work some today to make up for missed hours this week.  I will be going 8 straight days of work until next Friday, wahhh!  But it was worth it.

John and I took a break for some coffee at Cool Beans, and I was tempted by a treat:

Goodbye 5-mile run calorie burn

Came home to find Pixie being lazy on the dishwasher.  She gets on top of it whenever we run it because it is warm.  I love her giant feet.

Dinner was another experiment.  I pan sauteed some broccoli in sesame oil, then added chopped cooked chicken breast and salt and pepper.  In a separate bowl, I mixed 2 Tbsp of balsamic vinegar with 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp cornstarch and added it to the pan.

This was pretty good, but it needs some other flavoring.  Not sure what it would be, though. Maybe mustard?  Anyone have any balsamic vinegar tips?

The rest of the night will be made of some reading and resting.

On a sad note, I wanted to take a moment and ask you all to please send your thoughts to Steve, as he has lost his father suddenly.

Football Saturday and loose skin.

Happy Saturday!  So cold here today.  Sunny and beautiful, but only about 20 degrees.  There are times I am glad for the treadmill, and today was one of them.  I’m all ready to hit the gym as soon as they open here!

For those that ask (or wonder), this photo shows an example of loose skin on my upper arm.  One of my battle scars 100+ pounds later.  I’m still somewhat self-conscious about it, but not enough to keep it covered up anymore.  Drinking lots of water, strength training, and losing slow did not prevent the loose skin (although my upper arms have a nice shape to them from strength training).  You’ll either have it or you wont.  That’s probably the #2 question by email that I get.

It was just a quiet 5-mile run on the treadmill.  No speed work or anything, since it’s my last workout day of the week, which usually means legs are a wee bit tired.  The first 2 miles went fast, but then the batteries died in my player!  That left me to listening to the music station that was on, which happened to be country (double and triple ick!!!).  So, the last 3 miles I couldn’t wait to get through.  Plus, I was thinking about these:

Banana multi grain cereal (sent from Country Organics) and topped with some of the pecan butter I made yesterday and these teeny tiny chips!  Nestle makes these minis, and 1 tablespoon looks like so many more than the 16 regular size chips you get.  Hooray for extra surface area!  And these were absolutely as good as they look 😀

John and I daydreamed over breakfast about New Orleans and where we are planning to eat.  In a city that is all about food, you have to plan your meals as carefully as the activities!

A package arrived for me this morning from Melissa at A better bag of groceries .  I won a giveaway of these items – yay!:

I decided to incorporate the Josephs Pita into lunch.  I mixed together 1/4 cup of cottage cheese with 1/2 scoop (17 g) of vanilla protein powder and some cinnamon, topped the pita and wafer-thin apple slices.  Slid that into the toaster oven.

It was quite good!  Packed full of protein, too 😀   With some brussels on the side.

Then it was off to do some window shopping, which didn’t last long because it’s so freaking cold out!  We decided to hit up Fortunate Cup and have a warm drink.

Plus I brought along a chewy granola bar.

We then looked for some shorts for John.  He needs some for our cruise, since his from summer are too big after losing weight!  It’s hard to find them right now, though.  We struck out there.

Home for dinner, where I had me a hankerin’ for some BBQ chicken salad with the salty feta.  It’s those sweat sessions that make me crave this stuff.  I snacked on some pistachios before dinner, too.

It’s time for football!  2 days in a row, too.  Yay!

Question:  Rooting for any NFL teams this weekend?

Treadmillin’ and fudge

I have to say, this weather has been really cold!  It has not been above freezing for a couple weeks now, I think.  😯  No precip, so the air has been very dry.  It’s so hard to get out to go to the gym and get in a cold car (but better than biking in this cold 😀  ).

I had a Luna bar as a preworkout snack while waiting for the car to warm up a little.  It actually was slow to start.  Guess 0 degrees will do that….

Hit the treadmill for what was supposed to be 5 miles, but I was feeling good, so did another 1/2 mile extra!  I used pace music and averaged 5.8 mph.  I did a almost 3 miles at 5.5, then 1.5 miles at 6.0 and 1/2 a mile at 6.8 mph.  It’s funny how running a 10-minute mile seems much harder on the treadmill than running outside.  I can do a 5K in 29:30, which is less than a 10 minute mile.  Go figure.

So hungry when I got home and really chilled from being sweaty in the cold.  Made a fabulous bowl of steel cut oats:

Cooked with banana and topped with almond butter and blackberry jam.  I about snorted this bowl down.  I don’t know which was more awesome today, the breakfast or the shower after breakfast!

While I was hard at work today, John was busy in the kitchen.  He was making some of his fabulous fudge!  He pretty much uses the recipe on the marshmallow fluff jar, although he added coffee powder to it and topped half with pecans.

This is still uncut, so I don’t have to worry about snacking on it.  It’s funny how if a bag is not opened, or something is in it’s ‘whole’ state, I have no problem not eating it.  The minute it is breached, however, all bets are off!

I’m feeling pretty good about this last stretch into Christmas.   If I can just keep it up for a couple more days 😀

Finished up work early today (go me!!) and felt like another BBQ chicken salad for dinner.  I was craving the salty feta and BBQ sauce.  When I run longer distances (for me) I crave salty stuff.  I am not only a profuse sweater, but a salty sweater.  I think my body is trying to tell me something about electrolyte balance.

Ornament of the day:

Another horn!  This one is pewter, I think.

Have to clean tonight and get the house ready for company on Christmas!  Also need to resist the siren song of the nutmeg logs

Look for a post tomorrow about the origin of the name of my blog!

Question:  For those that run, do you find it really different on a treadmill versus outside?

Sloppy run and snack free!

Lots of great tips on the giveaway thread!  And ‘hi’ to the new peeps visiting!  😀  I need to do a giveaway open to everyone soon.  Need to see who I can hit up what I can arrange.

With the weirdness at the gym yesterday, I wasn’t feeling like going there and running on the dreadmill.  Luckily, it was not precipitating and I saw snow dripping, which meant it was above freezing.  Good enough!  I didn’t check the temp.  Sometimes it is best not to know these things….  I bundled up and headed on out.  It was not the greatest of runs.  The sidewalks were a bit sloppy.  I also really felt like I was slogging for the first mile or so.  Then around mile 2, I went through some slush that was hiding a deep puddle. (insert profanity here).  Problem with mesh top shoes is that if water gets on top, water goes in.  Then it happened again with the other foot! (insert profanity here). I saw a 3rd puddle and leaped over it, thinking I was oh-so-smart, but when I landed my mp3 player popped out of my pocket, detached from my earphones and smacked into the pavement (insert even more profanity here). I thought it was broken because it was skipping and I could not turn it off!  I actually had to take out the battery and hold my breath while I put it back in.  Seems okay now, though.  Yay!   I ended up doing 5 miles.  Turns out it was 34 degrees out, too.  See my wet feet?

socks1215

I was worried about getting blisters with wet shoes, but that didn’t happen.  I do see that I have a new hole in this pair of socks, though 🙄

Hangry at this point!  I was thinking about these during the last couple of miles:

cakes1215

Nom, nom!  Wymans – I love you!

So my goals today were to keep snacking under control again and spend some time cleaning.  30 minutes instead of 15.  Snacking was quite good, although I had about a tablespoon of peanuts while I was making lunch.  Speaking of, I had another hit of vitamin S!  You might want to look away, though – it’s not attractive:

smoothie1215

  • 3 big handfuls of spinach
  • 1 small banana
  • 5 grams of cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon cashew butter
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • ice and water.

The color is nasty from the cocoa powder.  Wish I had thought of that beforehand.  It tasted really good, though!  Like a chocolate banana.  I won’t add nut butter to any more of these, as I think it is wasted and I would rather just eat it off a spoon 🙂

John made some awesome lowfat gingerbread cookies to send to his family.  These are amazingly chewy and super gingery because there is chopped up candied ginger in them!  I’ll get the recipe up sometime this week.  You would never guess they are lowfat.  I had 1/2 a cookie (he makes them big) with my afternoon latte:

cookie1215

Work has been busy still.  Usually it slows down in the MT world at this time, but it hasn’t yet.  I’m glad for that!

Dinner was simple.  I tried to make an omelet with broccoli and feta cheese, but I had so much broccoli that the omelet could not hold its integrity!  Looks ugly, but very tasty.  Looks aren’t everything!

din1215

We took some relaxation time tonight.  Needed to renew my library card today  to renew the books that were due tomorrow!  So we chanced a quick run to Target to get some protein powder and I picked up a pack of socks for myself

Then it was to Starbies, where I had some decaf coffee and a bite of that coffee cake in the background.

starb1215

One nice thing about our business is that we build up a ton of rewards points on the card paying for inventory each month.  So, we turn those points in for gift cards to Starbucks.   That’s a money saving way to be able to go out and not spend extra money!

Ornament of the day:

PC110017

Keeping in the horn theme from yesterday.  This is one of those scroll cut brass ornaments.  It’s very ornate and is 3-D, although this picture doesn’t take advantage of that.  Maybe I need to hire a new photographer…..

Question:  Do you use reward points?

Comfort zone challenges and big broccoli

Happy Thursday and the start of my weekend!  I managed to consume a fair amount of dark chocolate chips last night.   🙄 It was one of those evenings where I couldn’t seem to make myself stop.  So, I got up for a treadmill run today.  I ate a toasted waffle with a bit of jam on it before heading to the gym.  Then it was 5 miles!  I decided to have a little fun (??)  and push out of my comfort zone a bit.

Mile 1:  Gradual increase from 4 to 5 mph.

Mile 2: Upped to 5.5 mph.

Mile 3:  At 3.5 miles, I started increasing the speed on the treadmill by .1 after each minute, so that I was up to 6 mph by mile 4.

Mile 4:  Spent 1/2 a mile at 6 mph and then did the same trick to increase by .1 after each minute to get to 6.5 mph by mile 5.

Mile 5:  Here was my challenge.  I stayed at 6.5 for a couple minutes to get comfortable, then increased by .1 each minute to 7mph!  I stayed at 7 mph for 1 minute and then backed down to 6 mph and finished out the mile.  Then cool down.

Funny how when you go at 7 mph and back down to 6, it seems so much easier.  This made the time go by really fast, too.

Since we got cheated out of bagels yesterday (thanks mother nature!), we decided to go this morning!  I picked John up and had my multigrain.  Sure makes it feel like Wednesday to me.

bagel1210

Had a hard time staying focused at work.  Ever have days like that?  Just kind of blah and knowing it’s my last work day of the week.  Plus, my sister’s elderly cat passed away today and I feel very bad for her.

Wanted something comforting for lunch, so I decided on protein pancakes.  Topped with mashed banana and a tablespoon of maple syrup.

PC100009

Sure was good….  I love nice filling lunches.  Lunch always seems to be the meal that doesn’t stick with my very long.  Not sure why that is.

John won football picks *again* this week (stupid Ravens!!! 👿  ) and he decided on Chinese.  We went to an inexpensive little takeout place that has brown rice.  What else do you do when waiting for your food?  Take pictures!

PC100015

Love the neon lighting

Now this is a bowl of broccoli I could get seriously into!

broc1210

My meal was teryaki chicken.  Hello sodium bloat! It was actually a little m’eh.

PC100017

My stirfry last night was much better.  Sometimes I love eating out and other times I am very disappointed.

Ornament of the day:

grinch

Mr Grinch! I love this ornament.  Of course, it is my favorite Christmas special, too 😀

I am so glad it is my weekend!

Question:  When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone?

5-miler and hello toes!

Some slick sidewalks, so I am pretty much sticking to treadmill running for now.  Last winter I just exercised at home as I did not belong to a gym.  We don’t own a treadmill, so my outdoor running was really weather and neighbor side-walk shoveling dependent.  Now with the gym, I can still keep up my running (even though the dreadmill is boring).  I did 5 miles today.  This is becoming my go-to mileage on an average day, which I am so pleased about!  I did 3 miles at a 5.5 mph pace, then 1 mile at 6 mph, 1/2 mile at 6.5 and then 1/2 mile at 6.  Sweaty, sweaty!

Came home and had my steel cut oats for breakfast that I talked about earlier today.

Then it was work, work, work.  I put my feet up for a while and noticed this:

socks1208

So many of my socks look like this, although I don’t normally end up with both at the same time with holes 🙂 . I don’t know what it is about my feet, but I go through shoes and socks like nobody’s business!

Lunch was inspired by Caitlin today:

lunch1208

Toasted quinoa on greek yogurt!  My yogurt has vanilla protein powder stirred in with strawberries.    My take on the quinoa was done a bit differently than hers:

  • 1/4 cup dry quinoa
  • 2 tsp agave nectar
  • cinnamon

In a small frying pan, toast the quinoa over medium high heat until light tan.  The quinoa will start to pop as it toasts.  Stir often so it doesn’t burn!  Then add in the cinnamon and agave nectar and keep stirring until the agave is absorbed.  (It will sizzle).  Just a couple minutes. It will kind of lump up in the pan a bit.  Remove from heat and let cool.  Then use as a topping.  Full of protein and crunch!  It kind of reminds me a bit of those chewy sesame candies – anyone know what I am talking about?

Ornament of the day:

ctacorn1207

This is a Charming Tail.  I started collecting these 5 or 6 years ago.  I don’t do too much collecting because we try to lead a somewhat clutter-free life (said as I look away from my desk….), but they are just so cute.  I haven’t bought any in a few years, though.  I have a little Squashville parade that I should take a picture of, too.

Break for a snack with my latte:

attune1208

Yum!

So, having more tenant issues.  One of them is gone now and the other one needs to find another roommate or he needs to move out as he cannot afford the place on his own.  I am letting him stay for a while to find a roommate because I don’t want to kick him out at Christmas and I can’t afford to not have someone in there.  Finding tenants at this time of year is tough. I really want to get rid of this house!   I hope to put it back on the market this spring, so if he can just hang on for a few months, that would be helpful.   Sigh….

More protein for dinner!  These clam strips are loaded with protein.

dinner1208

John has been prettying up my blog a little for the holidays!  I don’t have as much time as I would like to play around with it (just posting takes a lot of time!), so I let him fiddle.

Question:  Do you collect anything?

5-miler and kitty in the catnip.

Okay, it’s too cold even for me to run outside at below 30 degrees!  I feel silly going to the gym just to run, but I wanted to have it over and done with.  Had a snacky of dates and almond butter that I made the other day.

dates1201

Hit the treadmill for 5.2 miles today!  I did a sprint (for me) of the last 1/2 mile at 6.7 mph!  Go me!

I was sta-harving when I came home!  Made another ‘crepe’ with thinned out bisquick.  It worked out really well.  For the filling, I mixed some vanilla greek yogurt with canned pumpkin and spices.  I really could have only used half of the filling, but I was hungry LOL!  Topped with some cranberry sauce.

crepe1201_edited

I proclaim it delicious!

I found this on the washer today:

nip1201

It’s Pixie’s catnip.  Normally this pot is out of reach for her and we dole out her treat, but I had watered it yesterday and set the pot on the washer so it wouldn’t drip all over everything.  I forgot about it, and someone found it.  I don’t know if it will ever recover.  Pixie even tore some of the roots out of the soil – she is such an addict!

A surprise box arrived for me today from Mezzetta! It had some fixin’s in it for easy holiday entertaining.  One of the jars was this:

sdt1201

I decided to incorporate it into lunch with some savory oats!

lunch1201

Bottom layer of cooked oats, then topped with an egg, some Cabot cheddar and chopped sundried tomatoes.  I stuck it under the broiler.  My first time with savory oats and they were really good!  I liked the seasoning of the tomatoes, too, with garlic, herbs, and spices.

Here is the first ornament feature from our tree:

ornament1201

It’s a french horn, which is the instrument I used to play (and have college degrees in).  I began collecting horn ornaments I think since high school maybe?  This one combines my love of all things sparkly and glass.  Amazing that is hasn’t broken over all these years.

We futzed around trying to decide what to have for dinner.  No protein thawed out.  John wanted to go out for his football dinner tonight, but he either wanted Chinese or the fish fry cafe.  I really, really did not want either of those 2 things for dinner, so we stayed home and will try again later in the week LOL!  So, I microwaved a sweet potato and topped it with pan fried broccoli and a bit of cheese.  It was pretty tasty, and quite a departure for me.

din1201

Kind of missed more protein, though.  Today ended up being an accidental vegetarian day 😀
