Can I just say how nice it is to see the sunshine? While still a bit chilly, the sun is very welcome around here.
John told me yesterday that there were 2 weeks until Thanksgiving. 2 weeks!! Time keeps going by faster and faster.
I went harvest for breakfast today. The 1 minute ‘muffle‘ with apple topping. Today is grain free, but not necessarily lower carb.
Interesting note – the recipe page for the 1-minute muffin is the most viewed page on my website. It got linked to by a few bigger websites (even though I am not the originator of the recipe). There was a bit of time a month or two ago where that single page had 1500 hits on it in 1 day. Crazy. It’s weird when you get a ton of people come to your blog like that, especially if they never comment even once because it sort of feels like having a stranger peeping in an open window or something LOL!
Today was the usual Fridayitis, especially with the sun out. I needed some good protein for lunch, so I made a pumpkin protein shake. 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 30 grams isolated whey protein (unflavored), 1 teaspoon honey, and cinnamon.
The nuts were for some fat since the protein shake doesn’t have much.
After lunch, I went out for a run. I decided to go ahead and try a whole 5K today and see how it felt. I finished in 38 and change, keeping my pace slow and steady.
Done! This is the first 5K I have run in about 1-1/2 years, I think.
I am now going to show you my running shoes.
Think I need new ones? Blowing out the sides. I haven’t bought new ones because I wasn’t sure if I could keep with the running. I might buy a new pair. I hate spending money on shoes, honestly. I am very, very hard on my shoes and go through them pretty fast, which is annoying because any kind of athletic shoe is expensive! I may be needing to replace my bike cleats as well fairly soon.
John and I played hooky this afternoon! I do love Friday when we do this. It means I shift my work around, but it is worth it! We stopped at Coffee Planet for some Vitamin C. I love the attention to detail they give on their lattes.
So good, too. I wish they were open late. They close at 8 pm, which is too early when we want to do a coffee at night. That’s why we end up at Starbucks when we would much, much rather be here.
I managed to do some work when I got back until dinner. I had the most awesome dinner! I sauteed up some broccoli in coconut oil, added some raw jumbo shrimp and and some of this sauce:
Then just as the cooking was finished, I tossed in some fresh cut pineapple.
This was soooo good! Easy, too. The thing that took the longest was cutting up the pineapple
It’s now Friday night and I have to get back to work some. That’s the breaks for hooky time. John has gone out and Pixie will have to do for my company while I work.
FYI – evening snack is ricotta cheese with warmed blueberry sauce. Definitely one of those good eatin’ type of days!
Biking on the agenda for this weekend – temps in the mid 50s on Sunday! Can you tell I am excited??
Nice going with the 5K!!! But your shoes – yowza. Do you wear them for things other than running? I try to keep my running shoes only for that…makes them last longer.
Such a pretty latte. I have no earthly idea how they make those designs happen – I’ve tried and just made a mess.
Hope you have a great bike ride this weekend!
I only wear the shoes for running or sometimes to the gym for lifting, but not for general wearing. I just go through them fast. John is amazed at how hard I am on my shoes.
Definitely a good eats day! That dinner recipe looks amazing. I have almost all the ingredients in the house too!
You blow your shoes out at exactly the same place that I do! I think its a weakness in the shoe construction. Couldn’t be me LOL.
Yes, those are some sad shoes. 🙂 I have about 5 sets of running shoes, none of which I use for running. 🙂
My biggest repeat page is my review of Mark MacDonald’s Body Confidence. I always know when it’s been featured somewhere because that page zooms to the top again.
Enjoy your ride, Lori!
That is one lovely picture of Pixie! 🙂
I didn’t even know there is such thing as vanilla almond milk. I bet I would love it, because I love almonds and vanilla. I’ve been eying your cracker recipe lustily, but I’m afraid they would be “too good”.
Your running seems to be going well? I can’t remember whether you stopped because of your back or your knees, but that is obviously not hampering you now?
Well you know I was gonna say something about those shoes!
How long have you actually had them would be my first question. Second, I think maybe they are a bit too narrow for your foot and you need to look into shoes that have widths – not all running shoes do. Also, wrong, bad, or worn out running shoes can contribute exponentially to injuries!
OK, I’ll stop fussing now.
The broccoli jumbo shrimp dish looks delicious. Did you throw the shrimp in first or cook them both at the same time?
HOLY COW on the page views but does not surprise me in some way as people need to find healthy & quick ways to eat these days – so many way too busy people!
Congrats on the run! I hope your bod feels OK today since you did it yesterday…. I am like you with shoes too. I really wear them hard PLUS with my major overpronation, well, even with inserts, I still wear thru them fast. I have to keep them workout shoes replaced if they are past due though because my joints & knees start to tell me it is time to replace – good ole old age! I did not have this prob when I was younger! 😉
Pixie is so cute!!!
Hooray for finishing a 5k! I ran outside for my first 5k of my 21 day challenge – I forgot how hilly my neighborhood is!
Do you have small feet? I tend to buy boys shoes – they fit fine and are usually half the price of women’s shoes!
I tried the coconut almond breeze this week and I love it!
Way to go on the 5K. You rock!!
I REALLY wish I could make my almond milk lattes into art like that. Maybe I should practice a bit more. Hope you had a great weekend Lori!!
Congrats on doing a 5K, awesome!
About the shoes, it depends how much miles you have ran in them. That’s my reason to buy new ones, not how they look on the outside. I keep track of how many miles I run in my shoes.
Funny this year when you guys are celebrating Thanksgiving, I will be celebrating something too because it’s R.’s birthday 🙂
Your poor shoes! You definitely need some new ones asap. I buy new running shoes about 2-3x a year.
