Brand love

When talking about Fage the other day, I thought I would also share some of the other foods brands I love.  Normally, I find no-name brands to be just fine the majority of time. However, there are some foods where I am extremely brand loyal.

First off?  I love fresh blueberries, but alas, they are not always affordable.  When I buy frozen, I never get any brand other than Wyman’s.

Whenever you see the blueberry topping, rest assured it was from Wyman’s.

My pumpkin:

I prefer Libby’s.  Not sure what it is, but the pumpkin is almost sweet and always consistent.  I get other brands when Libby’s is out or I am totally stockpiling, but only if Libby’s is out.

Laughing Cow:

I like LC as a spread.  I actually don’t think of it much as a cheese as a condiment.  I have no desire to try other spreadable wedges.

If I want the real deal cheese, I like Cabot.

I have found that I actually like their reduced fat cheeses as they still melt and are quite tasty – as is the full fat versions.  We usually get the 50% fat ones.

And the broccoli that you see on this website almost every.single.day?

Yep – frozen!  And it has to be the baby broccoli florets.  Not regular florets.  Not chopped broccoli.  Not broccoli spears.  Baby broccoli florets. Period.  There usually are 1 to 2 pounds of this in my freezer at all times.

That’s where my loyalties stand! No company paid me to say this either, or gave me any free stuff.  Not that I would turn down free  stuff…  😀

Question:  What are some foods that have to be specific brands for you?

I’m willing to try different brands in most things except Ketchup. There is just nothing else like it!

I’m not too particular and it took me a while to think of something I was picky about. I like Lite ‘N Lively 2% cottage cheese. other brands either seem to watery or milky tasting.
I’m more picky about non-food items.

Carnation brand evaporated skim milk, Hellman’s olive oil mayo, Organicville ketchup and BBQ sauce (both sweetened with agave), Bick’s pickles, Kraft cheese slices, Black Diamond cheddar cheese…that’s all I can think of offhand.

Ditto on what you’ve mentioned plus…I will only drink Seattle’s Best or Starbucks coffees…or anything my dad roasts from Sweet Marias. I’m a coffee snob, as long as I can afford it.

Um, as for other stuff…I’ve just noticed that generic isn’t always best. Oh, I’ve quit buying generic cream of __soups. I rarely use them anymore, but if I do I will only use Campbell’s now.

I (heart) laughing cow as well!!! 🙂

When I’m brand loyal, it tends to be for things that meet my nutritional needs as well…for example, I use Stubbs or Red Tail Ale BBQ sauce because they are lower carb than typical sauces. But while I like Fage, I’m pretty happy with whichever Greek style yogurt is on sale. (Unless it has non-yogurt ingredients, like corn starch…)

Those popcorn fish look so tasty-wish I could find them here!

Safeway 2% cottage. The tastiest and creamiest cottage cheese. And although I am not completely brand loyal, See’s candies are the very best! C&W baby frozen peas.

I am shocked that that is frozen broccoli!

Like all good Aussies, I love my vegemite. There is no other yeast spread that comes close to it (that won’t mean anything unless you’ve eaten vegemite, marmite, promite or similar :))

Hub wants only Coca Cola, ketchup has to be from Heinz. Otherwise I really don’t have special brands I always buy.

I am so so so so brand loyal in food.
and really with nothing else 🙂
    clothes
    haircutterpeeps
    shoes
    Im flexible.
    but my tastebuds? not.flexible.at.all.

Too many to mention! 🙂 My wife tells me that I am about the world’s pickiest person. That is far from the truth, but there are certain things for which a substitute will not do.

I am brand loyal on some things as well. The first one that popped into my mind was Hellman’s mayonnaise. Granted I’ve not switched to the heart healthier lower fat Canola Oil or Olive Oil versions but still it has to be Hellman’s!

I’m with you on the Libby’s! I don’t eat a lot of pumpkin, but when I do it has to be Libby’s.

Beyond that, my only brand loyalties are with Bull’s Eye BBQ sauce (no HFCS), French’s mustard, and Philadelphia cream cheese. I love the Laughing Cow but only buy it on sale these days.

I cracked up at your specifics regarding the baby broccoli florets, but I totally get that. Heinz ketchup over here; Jif (I’m a choosy mom) peanut butter for Jeff (I eat natural pb), Fage (of course!) – hmmm, can’t think of anything else specifically.

i try to be open to new brands in case the ones i prefer are not at the store i am at.. but there are a few things. i agree, pumpkin must be libby’s! i like chobani for greek yogurt with fage as a second pick. coffee mugs and water bottles have to be contigo, no others compare. (i know that’s not food but you know…) OH and cottage cheese! i am verrrry picky and some brands taste off to me. i prefer costco’s darigold.

    have a great weekend! xo

I love hearing which brands of foods people’s favorites!!! I have a few for sure, but would only make sense to your Canadian comment readers. (President’s Choice “Blue Menu” is one of my FAVORITE brands for all kinds of things)
AND…I have ONE Fage yogurt left from our trip to Washington last week. I should just eat it, but I’m “saving it”. Not sure what I’m saving it for… 🙂
    Have a great day Lori.

I was going to ask you about the broccoli if it was frozen, I’m all over that idea! I hate cutting it up for every meal.
Trader Joe’s frozen fruits rock my world and they are way cheaper than other stores.

I will have to keep my eye out for those bb to go on sale. I have noticed how expensive they are….and like you, I use frozen veggies – less expensive during these tough times & stay fresh longer! 😉 I have a few items I just have to have but in some areas, due to 44 issues, I have had to compromise…. but not on certain things!

  18. Ang

Most things I’m fairly flexible on and will buy what is on sale. I have a few brand favorites though. Oddly sometimes the store brand is my favorite! Kroger 2% cottage cheese, Daisy sour cream (no modified food starch or other funky ingredients), Fage, Simply Orange high pulp juice, Ragu super chunky mushroom spaghetti sauce, Kroger’s Private Selection frozen blueberries and their Naturally Prefered frozen raspberries, Udi’s gluten free bread, and Ancient Harvest quinoa and corn GF pasta.

I like a lot of the store brands as well. Most things don’t taste different, but there are some. I was looking at Udi’s but afraid to try a GF bread.
