Clean eats and no running.

Okay, I promised myself that I would eat much cleaner today, so here goes!

I woke up not too early this morning.  For the last couple days, I have been able to sleep on my stomach again!  For whatever reason, my herniated disk made it very painful to try sleep any way but on my back, which is my least favorite sleeping position.  So, that hasn’t meant the greatest of sleep for the past month.  The last couple of nights I have been able to be on my stomach, although not with a bent leg yet.  Funny how little things like that can make me so happy

I needed some good super foods for brekkie, so that meant protein waffles!  I added some extra oat fiber to them, too.

Then hit the ground running with work.  Since I actually ate early – I was hungry for a morning snack, but I told myself it had to be clean!  So I made a mini green smoothie.

1 cup of spinach, 15 g of chocolate protein powder, 1/2 a banana, cinnamon, ice, and water.  It was pretty good, but I think raw spinach may not agree with my tummy.  I get rumbles whenever I have a green smoothie anymore.

Lunch time was a baked crabcake and a pear, which I ate while working.

That actually slows down my eating because I work by typing, so that means I have to put the fork down to work LOL!  The good side to a bad habit.

I filled up all the bird feeders the other day.  So many different birds on this one today from sparrows to gold finches to chickadees and a woodpecker (surprising!).  All day this was going on – but when I sat there with a camera to take a picture, all I get is this.

Had the usual latte for a snack, just as I finished up work for the week (early to boot – woo hoo!).

Plus an Attune.

After finishing this and a little goofing around, I went out for a walk.  Went to the high school track, and John followed to run.  I would say I am probably about 90% healed from the herniated disk at this point, but the last 10% is  the weakness/numbness.  I still am unable to run.  I can kind of shuffle for about 5 yards, but my leg just gives out, so I can’t do it.  Same reason why I can’t do split leg lifting of any type.  Walking is okay, but my thigh feels so tight when I walk.  Not sure why that is – I stretch and foam roll every day.  It’s funny how what seems to be the easiest form of exercise (walking) is the slowest to come back when I can bike pretty well and do most of lifting exercises.  I actually yelled at my leg to wake up last night LOL!

Anyway, I came back and had a nibble before cooking dinner:

I was in the mood for sweet potatoes tonight.  Going with more superfoods on my clean eating day.  I sliced one up, sprayed with nonstick spray and salt and pepper, then popped in the toaster oven on 400 for about 25 minutes.  Golden brown and delicious!

Those are shredded brussel sprouts on the side.  Funny that it looks like cauliflower in there.

I made up my dessert for later.  This is a pseudo protein cheesecake.

  • 32 g of fat free ricotta
  • 15 grams of strawberry protein powder (soy)
  • enough water to make it creamy
  • 2 chopped strawberries
  • cinnamon

This is chilling in the fridge now for during the movie.  About 100 calories and 14 grams of protein!

I think I will make it eating clean today!  I am reminding John not to let me snack other than this pseudo cheesecake.

Question:  What is your favorite sleeping position?

I sleep on my back and either side. I could not imagine sleeping on my stomach and my CPAP would probably chock me if I tried.

Glad you are getting better and you will be running before you know it.

    Great clean eating day!

Green smoothies bother your belly, huh? It takes time to get used to raw food I think, especially dark greens. I ate all raw for 2 months one time and it was amazing but, yeah, my belly had to figure it out for the first couple of weeks 🙂

Looks like seriously good eats! Yum!!! Can’t wait until the weekend, that’s when I usually make my protein pancakes…I really ought to try the waffle iron with them sometime, your waffles always look so tasty!

Favorite sleeping position used to be on my side–and I usually wake up that way–although ever since I was pregnant with my daughter, I’ve preferred going to sleep on my stomach with one of my legs tucked up, too! (Not the best position when preggo, it evolved to more of a side position as the belly got bigger.) And interestingly enough, my daughter has always been a tummy sleeper (ever since she could flip herself over).

You will love the protein pancakes as waffles! Just cook them longer than you think to get them crispy.

I am a total stomach sleeper!

Glad to see you’re making your way back from your injury..take it slowly with running. The rotational component of running can often aggravate those with disk problems, so please take it slow!

The “faux” cheesecake with the strawberries looks super delish. YUM!

Thanks for the tips. I just get impatient because it doesn’t really hurt to try running, I just physically cannot do it, which is the weird part.

I hope you’re out and running soon.

I usually sleep in the fetal position on the very edge of a king sized bed. If I’m not curled up in a ball I’m on my stomach with my hands under the pillow and right leg bent. I’ve tried to sleep on my back to prevent wrinkles, etc. but I can’t do it.

Yahoo for you and the clean eats! I did good today too–surprised myself!

I really like sleeping on my stomach, even though it is hard on my back. If I could sleep on my back with my legs elevated on a pillow, that would be the best. Second best is on my side with a pillow between my legs.

Your food looks so yummy.. Not sure about the green smoothie though. You should try mixing garlic powder, cumin, and chili powder together, spray your sliced sweet potatoe with cooking spray, then sprinkle the seasonings on and bake them. They are delicious.
I sleep on my back or my favorite is my left side, one are under my pillow the other over the top. And my thing is Don’t nobody mess with my pillow! I can tell if someone has touched it and it is not fluffed just right.

That’s funny the birds are camera shy. I sleep on all 4 sides. Sometimes switching around constantly. Somehow I still manage to get a good night’s sleep.

  10. Ali

Lori, you may have answered this in earlier commments on your blog (but I do read your blog regularly and have not seen it so who knows?). Where do you get your protein powders, and which kind do you use? I would like to find some good ones, and I have easy access to Whole Foods. Thanks!

Ali – I don’t think I have actually talked about the specific brand, but I will do that in a post.

  11. Joanne

I sleep on my side. I used to sleep on my tummy but due to a bad back, the chiropractor said it was the worst sleeping position. I’ve learned to sleep on my back and, like I said, my side.

You have some good eats going on up there! TGIF!!!

Green smoothies bother my belly too. Sometimes spinach salads do it too, but it’s definitely worse when mass amounts of raw spinach are blended, then consumed quickly. Does raw cauliflower or broccoli do the same thing to you? Either of those put me out of commission for hours!!

    Enjoy your “weekend!!”

I don’t eat raw broccoli or cauliflower, so I don’t know if they bother me LOL!

I am a roasted veggie girl for the most part.

Spinach does like my tummy much either! The birds must be shy about eating in front of people! lol!

I sleep every which way. Mostly on my stomach or side.

How often I see those green monsters, I mean smoothies, I still don’t want to try one. The fact that there’s spinach in a smoothie: yek! A smoothie needs to be sweet for me 🙂

I sleep mostly on my left side, sometimes on my right or back but never on my stomach.

Fran – the smoothies are sweet! If you add in a banana, that’s what it tastes like. Doesn’t taste like spinach.

So glad you seem to be getting better! Hope that keeps up & you can run soon!

Got to say that I love the look of that dessert! YUMMY!!!!

I am a restless sleeper so I am on every side imagineable! 🙂 I used to love my stomach sleeping the most though!
