Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras!  We don’t celebrate Ash Wednesday, so it really isn’t reason to go wild and crazy today.  We just love Mardi Gras for Mardi Gras sake – and had our big dinner the other day.  I got a good night’s sleep and was up bright-eyed to go to the gym.

Today’s workout: This was shoulders, biceps, and triceps. The goal this week is lighter weights and increased reps. Plus supersets and shorter rest times. 30 second rest in between sets.

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Arnold Press 3 sets of 15 with 8# DBs Shoulders
Lateral Raise 3 sets of 15 with 5# DBs Shoulders
Bent over Lateral raise 3 sets of 15 with 8# DBs Shoulders
Superset
Incline Biceps curl
Two-handed overhead triceps press
3 sets of 15 with 8# DBs
3 sets of 15 with 10# DB

Superset
Prone incline Biceps Curl
Bench Dips

Triceps
Superset
Hammer CurlsLying Triceps extension
2 sets of 15 with 8# DBs
2 sets of 15 with 5# DB
BicepsTriceps

Goodness! The weights look very light, but the last set of each exercise was killer.  45 lateral raises and I was wishing I had toothpicks in my hands instead of dumbbells.  Phew!  For those that don’t know, a superset is to move from one exercise right to the other with no rest in between.  You rest after the second exercise only.  A giant set would be to do 3 exercises with no rest in between.

My arms were shaking on the way home.  I made up some oats with peanut flour and egg whites mixed in for protein. Topped with coconut butter and marmalade.

This is the other of my new Japan bowls!  FYI – calories in this bowl are about 450.

Spotty work day in the morning  since yesterday was a holiday.  One thing about my type of work – I may be ready to work certain hours, but if the doctors haven’t done their files or uploaded them, then I can’t do any work.  That also means I don’t get paid since it is on production, which means if I *do* want to get paid, I have to flex my hours.  One of the downsides of my industry, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons!

Lunch time!  I heated up some chicken with taco seasoning and put it on some tortilla chips with sour cream.

This tastes really good, although I forgot the cheese.

After lunch, it was time for somebody to go to jail!

I really shouldn’t laugh at this picture, but I am.

Time for Pixie’s rabies shot and well check.  So, I carted her to the vet.  It is about 1/2 a mile from our house, so I walked there with her.  Nothing like carrying a 10 pound dead weight for half a mile, especially after I worked out my arms this morning!  D’oh!  Pixie got a clean bill of health and a needle poke.  She wasn’t too happy about it, but she was very good at the vets.  I can’t believe we have had her for 5 years already.

Once I got home, it was time for lattes (plus some peanut nibbling).

Pixie did forgive me and got into my lap.  Life is good again.

John cooked up some breaded scallops for dinner, which I paired with some of the roasted parsnip/carrot mixture.

There are the beads! I was surprised at how many people have not had parsnips! They are kind of a cross between a potato and a carrot.  You should try them.

I had to catch up with said work after dinner.  Now that is done and John and I are having some coffee (at home) and are going to watch Jeopardy! Both of us tried out for Jeopardy once, but we didn’t make it.

Snacks:

Have a great Mardi Gras!

Question:  What is your favorite game show?

I laughed at that picture of Pixie, too. She only weighs 10 pounds? Wow! Kip weighs a little over 11, and Henry is 15 pounds – and the vet said he’s not overweight, just a big cat (whew!). Impressive that you toted her all the way to the vet after that workout, though.

Pixie looks giant because of all her hair and her big feet. She has stayed the same weight for 3 years now. Her secret is controlled portions. Now why don’t *I* do that??

I’m watching the Jeopardy Teachers Tournament because 2 of the teachers are Mizzou grads so that got some press here in Columbia, MO.

Laughing at your comment about Pixie and her controlled portions. Every night and every morning I look at Sophie and Monk and decide whether to give them a few extra or a few less kibbles. And I always think, what if there was somebody to do that for me? Ha! I wouldn’t like that very much. But I bet it would work. And right now they’d be giving me a few less kibbles LOL.

anyway, I don’t like game shows. Except if you count cooking game shows, like Chopped, and America’s Worst Chef. those are fun to me.

I really like doing super sets. Mostly because I think it saves time.

Your blue eyes really stand out in that picture! 🙂

You should try out for Jeopardy again. One time I was on my break at work and Jeopardy was on and I thought I recognized the sound of the voice of the contestant and it turned out it was someone that I went to school with! Kind of fun!

When I was a senior in college, I would sit and cross stitch while watching the game show network on TV. No favorites, just thought it was fun (yes, I was a freak of nature to spend time doing that and not out partying).

I’ve never had parsnips either BUT I just bought some coconut butter and can’t wait to try it!!!

Lightbulb: Mardi Gras is a bit like “Carnaval” here in Holland which is only celebrated “across the rivers” in the South part of our country. Basically it’s party, party, party from Saturday night till Tuesday evening with parades and lots of booze. I never appreciated Carnaval, I think it’s an excuse for most people to get drunk. Where I grew up it wasn’t celebrated either. Carnaval is followed by Ash Wednesday but surprise, surprise: no one does that 🙂

I had parsnips just once and I see it used more and more in recipes. Here they call it “forgotten vegetables” because a lot of people never have eaten it.

And update on my espresso: Saturday R. is going to a guy who repairs the machines for a good price. When R. told him the problem he immediately knew what caused it. So Saturday night I will probably have a cup of my beloved espresso 🙂

Eek, Pixie behind the bars!! She manages to look both resigned and dignified at the same time. 🙂

We don’t spend Mardi Gras here, but I suggested my friends we could have a Mardi Gras themed party some time..

I was going to ration your coffee but I couldn’t help it – and made another pot today! I had the remainder of yesterday’s pot as iced coffee while I blogged this morning, then took a travel mug on the way to work – so good!

Glad Pixie has forgiven you. 😀
