Thank you!!

Thank you so much to everyone for their wonderful comments and emails on my anniversary post yesterday!  It made me so energized to keep going and helped me have a great workout this morning!

Preworkout fuel:

kashi

This was tasty, kind of like a Luna but crunchier and chewier.  It only lasted me about an hour, though and my stomach was roaring!

Jogged for 35 minutes and then did NROLW:

Barbell squat/push press:
1 x 10 22 pounds
2 x 10 45 pounds

Step ups
2 x 10 with 30 pound dumbbells

Dumbbell 1 point rows:
2 x 10 with 20 pound dumbbells

Static lunge with rear foot elevated:
2 x 10 25 pound dumbbells

Pushups (man -style!)
2 x 10

Plank:
2 x 60 second holds

Cable woodchop:
1 x 10 45 pounds
1 x 10 50 pounds.

Came back to some banana/PB2 oats.  This is soooo good!

Pretty much enjoyed my day off, not doing a whole lot but hitting the library, the smokehouse and the natural food store (they have 1# Fage tubs for $4.79!!).

Made some almond butter today, so I had to have a snack with that.  I dearly love almond butter!  This is dangerous stuff to have around when I have a spoon in my hand.ab

Highlight of dinner was some of the Maple BBQ sauce from Susan.  Fresh chicken from the smokehouse on the grill.  Yum!

John and I watched Hitchcock’s “The Rope” tonight.  Very good movie.

We are actually going to go out tonight for something other than just coffee.  Either to listen to some live jazz or possibly the cafe cabaret and see what’s playing there.  That’s something for us homebodies!  Let’s just see if I can stay awake 😀

I’ll let you know tomorrow where we ended up.

She’s a brick house!

Did another brick today!  Did a bike ride and then a run.

I ate 1/2 of this bar before the bike (review on effectiveness in a bit):

pwerbar

Then did a 9 mile bike loop.  Not super fast, as it was early!  I even remembered to downshift to a low gear for about 1/2 a mile to prep for the run.  Came back to the house and had the other half of the Power Bar, took a 5 minute rest and then headed out for a 5K.  My legs felt like lead. Ugh!  I was not sure if I would be able to run the whole 5K.  It took 2 miles before I knew I would be able to do the whole 3 miles – I finally got a groove going.  I was slower, as this run took me 38 minutes to finish, which added around 7-8 minutes to my usual pace.  I’m actually pretty happy with that!

Regarding the Power Bar.  This has 250 calories, which fueled me pretty well. However, there were 2 things I didn’t like about it.  1 – it was very chewy and full of oats and raisins, which would normally be good, but I was so tired from chewing it after the bike ride that my jaw got tired. LOL!  The 2nd problem was the oats.  They left a lot of ,shall I say, residual bits in my mouth which was really distracting while I was jogging.  So I am nixing this as an option.

Best meal today!  I am christening these Elvis Oats!

In the mix:

1 mashed really ripe banana

12 grams of PB2

40 gram of oats

topped with some pine nuts to make up for the fat missing from the peanut butter.   My mom gave me the idea to actually add the PB2 right to the cooking pot with the oats.  What a great idea!  This was soooo yummy.  I burned my mouth because I couldn’t wait to dig in.

Tomorrow is an easier workout day.  And probably a bagel for breakfast!!

Spring Garden and Breakfast

Woke up a little early this morning.  I went out for a run and decided to do another 6 miles.  I ran one 5K loop back to the house, had 1/2 a balance bar and some water, which I left on the porch, then John joined me for the second 5k.  That was fun!  We then met my parent’s out for breakfast – they wanted to take me out for my birthday – thanks parentals!!  We went to Samantha’s Catering, which has really great prices and wonderful food.  I can’t believe that I ordered oatmeal LOL!  But it came with maple syrup and milk, plus a side of homemade wheat toast (carb overload, anyone?)

My parents each got the french toast, which looked to die for.  Think John and I might come and split an order of this:

Been a nice day today.  I got a chance to spend a good amount of time cleaning up my garden bed.  It looks quite good for late spring!  We have had rain and it is nice and green.   Unfortunately, we have almost no free dirt to garden in.  The back of our house has a large workshop and garage on it, so I am limited to the front of the house and a wee bit on the side.

Here is the front.  When they did road work and laid new water and gas lines, they tore up all the front yards, almost right up to my garden, so the lawn looks pretty sorry now, but it is getting better:

Some close ups of my roses:

This is High Society climber that is pretty short right now:

This is Sunsprite – and I will talk more about this rose in a couple weeks, it has very special significance (teaser!)

This is a Knockout Shrub – you can see it is the biggest in the picture and blooms like a son of a gun all summer. Not too fragrant though.

It’s latte time!  We are going to a New Orleans inspired place for dinner called Bistro Talullah.  Yum!  Good thing I ran 6 miles today, right?

Nutella and bargains

It is really gorgeous here!  I have to say that I like WordPress a lot for blogging, so I will likely be posting more than once a day (you lucky readers 😀  )

Started off the day at the Y with a little brick workout.  I swam  650 yards (26 laps) then rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes, covering about 6 miles.  Somewhat of an easier workout today.  My legs feel a bit stiff from jogging yesterday.  Plus I think they still might feel something from the hills on Saturday.

Came back to a great bowl of oats:

nutella

Cooked with a banana and cocoa powder and topped with a bit of peanut butter and Nutella!  This was sooooo good.

I am a big bargain shopper  (right Mom??) and last Friday I hit my favorite consignment store and got a brand new shirt for $1 !! Here it is!

shirt

It’s actually pretty flattering, I think.  It’s almost a little big, but that’s okay.  Very comfortable.  It feels like moleskin, but it isn’t.  I normally don’t wear button up shirts, but you can’t pass up something that costs $1 and fits, right??  My thighs are looking chubby, though, better lay off that Nutella!

Friday Morning fun share

It’s the start of my weekend!  After getting back from the Y,  made myself some delicious banana/chocoate/peanut butter oats.

Look who wanted some:

We have had a bunch of rain the last few days, and the garden loves it.  Here are some of the clematis blooms!

I’ll be posting some rose photos next week, the buds are swelling and I can’t wait!
