Inspiration and general musings

Over this past week (for whatever reason) I have received quite a few comments and emails about how I am an inspiration. That is very flattering and terrifying at the same time. More and more people view this blog every day, which I truly appreciate.

When I started this blog, it was more of an online journal for myself and my ramblings, so John didn’t have to hear them all LOL! I really never expected a lot of people to find it, let alone follow my journey. But then, I read other blogs myself to get motivation, so why wouldn’t mine do the same for others? It does add pressure, and I feel even more accountable to this blog to be honest with my weight loss progress and how I am feeling about it. Right now I just happen to be on a real roll with things, and maybe that is where the inspiration to others is stemming from.

Today I had a personal best with my jogging. Did 3 miles in 37:30 !! The intervals really help with that. I think I will do my next official 5K with intervals as well. Guess I don’t need to save them for training! FYI, I just signed up for another 5K in September. The goal I am shooting for for that one is a 12 minute mile. Not sure if I will get there, but I should be close.

Got my new bike tire today (obviously I haven’t biked all week). Took it into the shop and had them give me the new tube and put on a new pedal. My bike looks so beat up and dirty compared to the shiny new $500+ bikes in the shop. My poor bike that is my very favorite piece of equipment that I own! John said I should think about a new road bike, but I don’t want another one. Mine is so comfy and fits me perfectly. I might paint it, though. I was thinking gold.

As I promised earlier this week – here is one of my new strength workouts. These were all free weights. You can find videos of most of these at http://trainwithmeonline.com

Upper body:

dumbbell shoulder press: 3X10 18lb
dumbbell front raise: 3×10 11 pounds
hammer curl 3×10 13 pounds
triceps extension 3×10 13 pounds
dumbbell chest fly 3×10 13 pounds
dumbbell chest press 3×10 18 pounds

Oh, and food was pretty good today as well.

Almost the weekend!

Got one of my big projects done, so that is a relief!! Now I can get back to normal craziness 🙂

One of those times I am really looking forward to the weekend. Ended up eating about 200 extra calories today. Have the munchies big time.

I completed my goal for the month of thirteen 3.25 mile jogs during the month of July (3 per week). That was my goal, and I did it! I will keep with the jogging.

Yesterday I tried some intervals. During the last mile, I picked up the pace for the straight parts of the track, and went back to normal pace on the curves. That was hard LOL! I don’t know if doing that at the end of the run is better than at the beginning when I am fresh or not. Hopefully I can get my pace down to a 10 minute mile by the time I do the September run. That’s my new goal. I did 3 miles in 39 minutes – a 13 minute mile.

I’ve been thinking about maintenance again, and wonder how I will change what I am eating. I really don’t know how to maintain, just how to gain or lose! I almost fear maintenance for that reason.

Another On Plan Day!

Yay! Another good day. Ate Nutrisystem foods today, which is really great when I am swamped. No thinking needed. So busy, though. One more day of having a million things to do, then only 999,999 after that :). I don’t like being so hectic – I feel like I don’t get time for myself to just relax.

I am already thinking about tomorrow’s jog. Wednesday evening is the only weekday evening I get to spend with DH most times. So, not sure if I am going to jog in the evening or not. I may get up early and go if I can – but I have been so tired from all the work that I haven’t been getting up early. I could move the jog to Thursday, but the weather looks rainy. Wish I could get him to go with me!! I’ll figure something out.

Tomorrow is weigh in day, not sure what the scale will bring – either more sameness or hopefully a loss! I would like to end the month on a positive note. I am looking forward to measurements – I think I lost a little off my hips and thighs with all the jogging!

Ate clean today!

Well, I ate totally clean today. For some reason, that phrase makes DH laugh. I actually got in a good amount of protein today:
Carbs 165, 24 grams of fiber, 43 g of fat, 110 g protein. 1417 calories.

The oopsie rolls were interesting, I have to say. Kind of like a croissant/souffle cross. They didn’t taste egg-y, which I thought they might. Sliced one in half and had a tuna sandwich with it. It was good, although fragile. I think overnight in the fridge will help them hold up better. There are tons of possibilities for these, so they are definitely in my repertoire now! They would be great for french toast, or to layer in a dessert parfait type of thing, or sprinkled with cheese before baking, etc.

I decreased my time running today. Got 3 miles down to 39 minutes and 30 seconds. Broke the 40 minute mark! I am just going to plug away at decreasing time by keeping my heart rate at 155 or above. My theory is that in doing so I will have to keep pushing the pace the more adapted I am to running, which should therefore reduce my time. If I had a treadmill, I would just increase the speed on that and force it, but alas, I don’t own one 🙂

About 2 more days of super hectic-ness and things might get back to some sense of normalcy.

Exhausted

This week has been so incredibly busy. I am so tired, but I have been making sure that I get in my exercise every day. No excuses. So, 12 hours later and I’m done with my jog after working all day.

I didn’t do the bowflex, just too tired, so will bump those out by a day. I snuck in the jog tonight and got in 3 miles and made my way home. The skies were really dark while I was running. I kept saying “One more lap and you can go if it rains”. But, I did 12 laps and jogged part of the way home. 5 minutes after I got home it started pouring! Lucky me.

Doing the Silk & Satin 5K run this weekend. My first official run! I am kind of nervous, isn’t that funny?

Less than a week left in July, the scale has not been kind – a net loss of one pound so far. My goal was to do 13 three mile runs this month, and I should make that. I have done 10 so far. So hopefully I will see some loss in inches to make up for the scale.

Weigh in day!

Today was weigh in day. Lost another pound! Only 12.8 pounds til goal.

Ran another 3.25 miles this morning. Not sure I like the morning jogs. I was ravenous all day, and ended up eating some extra calories. I am half way done with my goal of 13 5Ks this month!

A little self-conscious today

Okay, maybe a lot self-conscious. In the photo a couple posts down – those are my new bike shorts. They are shorter than my old pair, and a bit tighter. I wear bike shorts while jogging to help with the ‘jiggle’ of loose skin.

Well, wore the bike shorts for the first time jogging (that exact outfit below is what I wear). I really felt a lot of jiggle tonight, which actually wouldn’t have bothered me, except for the 2 men that were standing on the track and yakking. They watched me go around, too – and I was really trying not to let it bother me, but it did. I just felt so blobby. And the shorts rode up a little bit for the first couple of laps, so might as well have been wearing a bathing suit while jogging! Got those straightened out, after the men left LOL. I really wish it didn’t bother me.

Funny, but another couple who walks around the track came by as I was in my final couple laps. I said ‘hi’ to them and continued jogging. It didn’t bother me near as much having them walk behind me as it did to have 2 unknown men watch me. I can’t figure out why.

Almost the holiday!

Boy, today sure feels like Friday! Got up early and went out for a jog this morning. Construction makes for a great wake up call….gggrrrr…..
I went 3.25 miles again. The jog felt tired and stiff, not sure if it was because of donating blood yesterday, or the early hour. Or both! LOL!
Who would have ever thought I would be running 3 miles! Certainly not me!

Got back on food track today after the ice cream mishap from last night. I am amazed at how easy it is to get back on track, without it turning into a multi-day binge or full blown relapse. There are those days where I feel my hold on control is tenuous at best, and those days where I have the iron grip. Got the iron grip back today.

Still waiting for my tax refund check to get here. It was supposed to go out at the end of June, and no show yet. I really need some clothes!! Might just have to go get them early and pay myself back. I know I am going to shop for size 12s — yippeee!!! I might get a pair of 10s as a motivation pair of jeans. I’d love to fit into those by August.

Wanting to eat today.

Boy, do I want to eat today. I don’t know why, just having some intense cravings today. Especially for salty stuff. Not giving in, though. I am at calories for the day. We have Garden Salsa Sunchips in the house, which are a bit of a red light food for me. Particularly when I am wanting to eat!!

My legs are pretty sore today after yesterday’s run. So, took it easy on the workouts today. Did upper body bowflex and then I was going to ride my bike to my rental house. I did ride it there, about a 10-15 minute ride. Then it starts pouring out of nowhere. So, John came and picked me up. Might do some pilates later.

Maybe the hunger has something to do with all the exercise lately, I don’t know. 30 mile bike ride Sat, and 3.25 mile jog last night. Weigh in is tomorrow, and I am expecting a maintain or gain from water weight. Gotta start the month off slow!! LOL.

5K Monday!

Now through the end of July my goal is to run three 5K a week. So – today I did the first one! I actually did 3.25 miles, since I want to make sure I actually am able to finish the race on the 26th LOL! It took me 46 minutes to do the 5K. About a 15 minute mile. I am quite pleased with that.

I am starting to learn my body patterns during the runs now. The first 1/2 mile feels tiring. Then I get into a groove until 1.5 miles. The I feel tired for 1/2 mile. From 2 miles out I get back on autopilot. I am going to try to create my own mix mp3 to jog to. I like the mindless techno stuff because I don’t pay too much attention to it. My own favorite music I tend to want to hum along or sing with. Problematic while jogging!

Today was a good food day. I checked my weight this morning and I was up 1.5 pounds from last week, but I am sure it is water retention from the 30 mile bike ride. That happened when we went to VT about a month ago as well with that long biking day.

The bulletin boards are becoming very quiet now. I think many people are busy or giving up! I keep posting because those boards are my lifeline a lot of the time. While accountability lies solely within my own self, the external support is much needed.

Today’s stats:

Calorie goal: 1,400 • Consumed: 1,416 • Burned: 440
Net calories: 976
C/P/F ratio: 51/26/23 (yay me!!)
