We decided to bike to Saratoga today, which is 20 miles each way. Was going along well, then a little more than 1/2 way (in the middle of nowhere) my tire started going flat. Of course, being the unprepared bikers – we did not have a repair kit or anything. Since it was a slow leak, we decided to press on and get to a gas station to fill the tire so we could get to the city. 5or 6 grueling miles later, we got to the gas station, and the tire was just about flat. Anyone who had ridden on low pressure tires knows that it is like biking through sand – really, really tough on the legs. Anyway, we put air in and were able to go the last few miles to town, where we stopped at a bike shop and got not only a new tube, but 2 new tires that I was going to get anyway prior to the triathlon. So my bike has new shoes now!
So then, we hit the farmer’s market, which is great in Saratoga! Wish we could have brought home some more perishable stuff.
Then ate lunch and walked around town and enjoyed Congress Park, where these little darlings were swimming around! So damn cute!
Somehow, I ended up with this. It’s a cupcake with frosting. I ended up just eating the top for the frosting and tossing the bottom half, since the taste of the cupcake itself wasn’t worth the calories. The top was really good, though!
The bike ride home was much easier with a good tire! So, I can do at least 40 miles in a day with hills. HIIT training is good and all, but there is a lot to be said for endurance training. Bring on the triathlon!
Note to self….. go out and buy an emergency repair kit for the bike before the next long ride.
