This whole year so far has felt just crazy, crazy. Lots of stressful things and as many of you know, I’m a stress eater. I managed to put on about 10 pounds in 2018, which most certainly wasn’t on my goal list for the year.
Now some of the stresses have eased and I’ve decided that starting right now, I’m going to take better care of myself. Making better eating choices, trying to limit the extra hours I spend on the business (this is super duper hard for me), and getting out and doing my meditating — I wrote medicating LOL — in the garden. Now that warmer weather is here, there is a lot to do outside.
Back to my basics for eating, like my dinner tonight:
Making a concerted effort not to grab dry cereal for a snack at night and choose fruit or a York patty, which I don’t overeat for whatever reason.
Biking season has arrived and there will be a lot of that going on now.
Onward and downward, right?
It’s hard when life gets crazy – I’ve been off track badly ever since we started our renovation, and I feel so blah. Self care is important but hard to do when you are being pulled in all directions. Hope you do get to slow down and get some Lori-time every day!
It is like a cycle where you feel blah and then you don’t take care of yourself even more. It’s hard to break, but we can do it!
I’m with Shelley: Lori-time every day is important.
Now I’m close to turning 50 and seeing how my mother and sister are getting worse from the muscle disease they have, I realize my health is the greatest gift I have and I need to cherish it.
I know – I’m starting to feel a little older. It takes longer for me to recover from things and I need to remember that. It’s okay not to go pell mell all the time.
I’ve been completely derailed since Bobby broke his leg in December. It’s like because I’ve had to spend so much time taking care of him and everything else, I just can’t get my crap together and do what I need to do. (I usually only have an issue with eating OR working out – once both start to falter I know it’s time to straighten up and fly right.) You are so correct in approaching it as self care because, bottom line, that’s exactly what it is! I’ll join you and let’s see what we can manage over the summer!
In keeping the businesses running smooth, I’ve taken a back seat, which can only go on so long. We can do it! Nicer weather is here and that just makes it so much easier than the cold and snow.
You’ve got this. 10 pounds sucks and I totally get that. I’m a stress eater too. 🙁 But you are the queen of portion control and you’ll lose it!
I’ve been gaining and losing the same 4-6 pounds for the last year. I’m currently up 5. It’s disheartening and frustrating. It feels like the older I get the more of a tightwire I am walking…One extra splurge and I am up. 🙁
It does get worse when you get older. I have to be so much more careful and then when I splurge – I pay big time LOL. Unfair.
Hi Lori-
I started losing my weight at 50 – it took me 5 years. But now I’m almost 6 years into maintenance and I still keep working at it. My friend Jill and I started “Becoming Elli” with a podcast about women over 50 becoming fit and strong.
It is so hard to go from maintenance back into weight loss, but you can do it! Your spirilizer and veggie recipes are your secret weapon. I
‘m also a bike rider/gardener, so I love reading your blog.
Reading your blog and Shelley’s, along with several others is one of my “tools” to help keep it off. Love the bike riding scenes, recipes and inspiration.
Good luck with everything! I know you can do it!
Just getting back into the garden and working with your flowers will probably do you a world of good.
Hi Lori, Feels like ages since I last checked in on you. I saw the fishing post first and thought how thin your faced looked to me 🙂 so it’s all about what others see too 🙂 I wish I could just come have a cup of coffee with you and talk about weight lose and life and whatever 🙂 I too have put on a few lbs so I also need to get back to the basics. I wish you luck, wish us luck 🙂 I’m sure you’ll get back to where you want to be, as will I 🙂 Tell John great job with the stain glass, when I was young I once took a class for it and found it fun 🙂
Good to “see” you Dawn!
