It’s Wednesday already! The weather is warming up again after that really cold weekend. The trees are flowering now:
These smell really good, too. I am not sure what tree this is. Maybe a dogwood or cherry?
You may remember that I started my volunteer work at the Chapman Museum last month. I don’t want to just sit at the desk, so when they asked for volunteers for a tea party committee, I joined it. The museum is going to host Victorian teas in the dining room of the house. This is the dining room:
We are planning on have a short talk on a Victorian subject in the parlor followed by a 3-tier tea in the dining room serving 8 people. That means little sandwiches, scones and then a sweet. These will start this fall and we are going to try to theme them to the season. During December there will probably be 3 teas during the month, but otherwise once a month. Doesn’t that sound like fun? I would love to go to a tea like that 😀
There are a lot of logistics to figure out like health code issues, menus, food costs, advertising and organizing all the volunteers to work these since we need more bodies there at the same time. Hopefully this will draw more interest in the museum. The idea is to get more people in the door, not to make a lot of money (although that would be good) – they just can’t lose money.
With the warmer weather, biking is happening again. Today I decided to take a longer ride than I usually do during the day, which means logging in to work this evening, but it was worth it. It’s really getting green now:
Freshly laid asphalt on this section, too, which is nice. The tree roots will grow under the path and push up sections over time creating bumps, so they get smoothed out periodically. This bikeway is really taken care of very well.
it was gorgeous at the lake:
A lot better weather than we had for the brunch cruise. We live in such a beautiful area. The lake is only 9 miles from our house, so it takes about an hour and a half round trip, but much closer than the 15 miles away from our old house!
How funny that you would write about teas today. A friend is coming over tomorrow, and I thought I would surprise her with a little tea party. I’m still trying to figure out what to serve. The traditional tea kind of cracks me up–how about some bread? And then follow that up with some semi-sweet bread. Oh, and then lets finish it off with some super sweet bread. Of course, all that really appeals to me…
The flowering tree is SOOO pretty. And that it smells good is just a bonus! And the bike path! I am jealous.
Yes, lots of bready things LOL! Gluten free and tea party, not good friends. If you google some tea party menus, you will get some great ideas.
I do love our bike path. I wish it was longer and all the paths in the area were interconnected somehow.
I like being an active volunteer – doing more than originally requested. Makes the job much more interesting, for sure. The tea parties sound fun and getting to help create the menu is really neat.
That lake is so gorgeous. Makes me miss all the lakes I got to sail/swim/play at in California, when I was a kid.
It’s nice how close that lake is to your house. I’d spend a lot of time there in the summers!
I love a good tea. We also have a museum in this area that does teas, but I think they hire a local inn to do all the work.
If I had the option of logging in to work so I could spend some time outdoors when the weather is beautiful, I would totally do that! What a lovely path you have to ride on.
So cool on the tea parties & fun for you! Beautiful place!
I love the beauty of your rides!!!
Oh Lori what a great volunteering job! I would love to have a tea party there, sounds like so much fun.
You had great weather for a ride. Since last weekend it’s been pretty cold here. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and I want to go on a hike because forecast is lots of rain on Sunday.
I wish I lived close by, I’d LOVE to go to one of the teas!
