Couch to 5K

Well, I’ve decided to dabble back into running again.  I was thinking about how much running I used to do before I hurt my back and then I just struggled with it too much for it to be enjoyable. Not that running itself was ever really all that enjoyable, but I loved how I felt after.

So, cueing on the purchase of my new shoes last weekend, I am going to start the couch to 5K and see what happens this time.

Week 1 started today and boy, it sure feels like the beginning again! I was talking to John about how I used to run for an hour straight back in  the day and that seems almost unreal. Of course, I chose to start on a Thursday, which makes my week whonky, but whatever.  I will plan on Tues, Thurs and either Sat/Sun for the runs.

This is the first week:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Then 5 minute cool down (30 minutes total).

We’ll see how it goes. It may not last. I have to listen to my leg on that, but it seems that periodically I get the urge to try  again. It also feels good to change something up until the outdoor biking season comes (come on biking!!).

I hope it goes well for you this time! I remember you saying it hurt your back a bit. Maybe that won’t be an issue this time.

    I miss running. A lot… 🙁 Soon!

Good for you! Did you run on a treadmill or did you go outside? What do you prefer? (I signed up for my first-ever 5K in June and have begun training.) Best of luck and here is to feeling great!

Treadmill right now. It’s too cold for me to go running outside and icy weather is coming in. I will just use the treadmill for now, although I prefer to be outside. Good luck with your training!

Good luck with the Couch to 5k Lori. I can’t believe it’s nearly time for you to bike again – it seems like it’s just been put away. You did have a lovely, extended season though.

Well girl you gave me just the push I need. I am joining you! I am struggling with running so much over more than a year. I can’t believe I trained for a half back in the days. But I have to start over again too and I will join you with my Start to Run program which is similar to your program.

    Let’s do this together!

All the runners I know (well, not me) are taking spin classes right now. It’s opposite world!

Good luck – listen very carefully to your body and be extra careful since you’re on a treadmill. That belt pushes the body a bit.

Do you have the C25K app? I downloaded it last year, haven’t done anything with it for a while, and it keeps sending me texts saying “you are stronger than your excuses!” Ha!

I will never be a true runner either, but I too love how I feel when I am done 😀
