Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms (of 2 and 4-legged children ๐ ย )
It feels like we skipped right over spring and went to mid July! It has been hot in the 80s here this weekend. From winter to July. Goodness. I have begun planting the garden bed. I got it all cleaned and raked.
Then we picked up a few more plants. There are 4 garden centers (not including the big box) within a mile and a half radius of our house. We biked to one and gotย some annuals for the front bed. John’s trailer is handy for that – and it keeps me from buying too much ๐
After doing that work, it was time to ride! ย We decided to ride to the lake and take the paths since it was hot and sunny out. Not used to the heat yet – like I ever really get that used to it… ย
All this heat and sun and green is popping out all over!
This is the start of a climb up that is probably the toughest part of the ride to the lake. It goes up for a long time and then kicks up steep at the end.
Of course, I dropped a chain today. ย Annoying. It doesn’t happen often, but I think I need to adjust my gears. ย
Since we were getting ice cream on a hot day, we front loaded the ride with hills so we wouldn’t be doing them after eating ๐
There were a fair number of people at the lake today. Starting to get close to tourist season. Hot and hazy. If it wasn’t for the budding trees, you would really think it was July.
You are here.
We didn’t stay long as we had ice cream on our minds! ย Back to Martha’s again. ย I can’t wait for the first cupcake ride, but that will have to be at least a 40 mile ride to get to somewhere that has them ๐
Around mile 15 and we reached Martha’s. Do you like their tip jars?
My sundae with salted caramel ice cream and apple pie topping:
Back on the mostly shady paths and then along the canal:
We stopped for more rest and to cool down.
This holds 21 ounces and I drank 2.5 of these on this ride. We were able to fill up at Martha’s. ย I had a couple glasss of water before we left the house as well. I definitely could have used an extra bottle on this ride.
Finally home:
Ride stats:
Total miles: 31
Average speed: ย 11.9 mph
Top speed: ย 31 mph (wheee!!!)
After we got back, I hyrdated with this:
I made sure to drink a lot of fluids for the rest of the day as well. This week temps go back down to a more normal range, thank goodness!
This early heat is tough to deal with – I’m with you on wondering what in the world happened to spring temps! What a nice ride, and what a yummy looking sundae.
We should be down to more normal temps this week, but it was like being blindsided by the heat! I think a lot of greenery got caught up the where it should be, thoug.
Im grateful it has been yucky and raining here in austin.
when it’s warm Ill take THAT any day over the scorching sun.
Ive gotten wimpy ๐
I am a heat wuss. I just can’t take it. Must be my yankee blood ๐
You know I have been the happiest girl alive with these temperatures for the last few days. It almost made me sad when the weatherman said this morning that temps will be lower and more seasonal by the end of the week. Summer can stay as far as I’m concerned!
I thought about you and the hot temperatures ๐
I think its just amazing to see New York without snow! What a nice ride, and a nice sundae.
Your front bed looks nice and wide. Plenty of room for lots of lovely flowers :))))
Lots and lots of room for flowers ๐ I have annuals in there now that I got in on Sunday afternoon to hopefully get something going while I plan and buy the baby perennials.
For the record, that salted caramel apple ice cream is insulin worthy!! ๐ We are back in the 60s, so I am happy with that ๐ I do like to have a break in between seasons instead of going straight from winter to summer.
The ice cream was really good. Especially because it was so hot!
I know I’ve said it before, and I know I’ll say it again, but I just LOVE “going with you and John” on your beautiful rides!!!! You live in a lovely part of the world, and it’s great for me to “visit”. Have a wonderful week Lori!!
Thanks Roz!
Did Pixie get you a mother’s day gift? She should have. ๐
Nice looking ride!
Yeah, it was a hairball…
LOL…..a hairball! You are too funny, Lori!
Lovely ride, I missed these posts so much during Winter.
We had the same here yesterday: it was really hot but today temperatures dropped again. Like you get a little taste of Summer and then it’s taken away from you again.
80s? Wow!! Saturday was beautiful in the low 70s but then Sunday/Monday were cold, windy, and rainy. Even this morning it’s cold and drizzly.
What trailer thing does John have for his bike? I want to see a better picture of that because I’d like to get something like that sometime.
HURRAY for new garden flowers! You’ll have that bed in tip-top shape in no time.
Ah, your beautiful outside rides again – WITH TREATS!!!! ๐
What a beautiful area that you live in!
