Okay, here are pictures of the living room. We still have pictures to place and window treatments to do, but if I wait until all of these are done, you will never see pictures. I also was hoping for a sunny day to take shots, but seriously – we haven’t seen the sun in probably a week? Anyhoo, here is what we were looking at before:
.
The wallpaper in here looks okay from a distance, but it had rips and tears and gum stuck to it. Plus it was really dirty. The first thing done was the sanding of the floors because the finish was worn down and dirty:
That was done waaaay back in August! I can’t believe how time flies.
There wall wall repair to do, of course. There is always wall repair to do…
Then finally after getting rid of all the wallpaper and much discussion over the paint color, we were ready to move forward:
We decided on Olympus Silver Spoon for the wall color. It complemented our art work and actually made the fireplace look pretty good without painting it as it matches the grout. Go figure. I wish that I had better lighting because I don’t think these quite do justice to the color, but I am very happy with it.
In the ‘keeping it real’ department – that lamp behind the piano is barely held together. If you bump it, the shade falls off and our other lamp is just like it. That is on the list to replace. I also haven’t moved my dead plumeria that is under the piano. I realize that now, but there you go. We won’t be featured in House Beautiful any time soon 😀
Where the bench is will be 2 chairs once I find the perfect ones for the nook, but my bench is there for now. That’s my foot pedal for work on the floor. My life has never ending cords attached to it.

I am not really a good decorator. I am pretty good fixing up the ‘shell’ of a room, but decorating is hard. This is a work in progress. There is no hurry, though. This is our forever home, so there is plenty of time to tweak that stuff.
Well done! I bet it’s starting to feel like home.
It is feeling more like home. It actually is taking a surprisingly long time for it to really like our home, though.
I like the color! Very soft and restful. You really made me LOL with the dead plumeria. I almost always see something like that in my photos, sometimes WAAAYY after I’ve published them. It seems like the perfect room for a grand piano–plenty of room for it, but also plenty of room for seating also.
Yes, the room is pretty big, but we have it filled now! The seating arrangement is a little hard because of the 3 doorways in the room. Not to mention the Christmas tree in the room, too 😀
My plumeria usually goes dormant at this time of year, but this time it really just died and drooped. It is 10 years old, so I guess it is to be expected. I just do so much better with outdoor plants.
It must be such a relief to finally be rid of those prison stripes! I think it’s challenging to arrange furniture, get the scale right, and make it all flow. Which is why I usually rearrange my house fairly often, LOL!
I know. I hate to really rank on the wallpaper, because some people like it and nothing wrong with that – but I was sure glad to see it go!
It looks very nice! I love the wintry view outside the window by the piano.
Great job!
That is a nice view. It’s a long way down to the ground from that window, actually as it is 2 floors up!
Great job Lori 🙂 you and john work so hard and do such a good job 🙂
Thanks Dawn!
annnnd I start all of this on monday 🙂
I shudder to think of moving again. Still too fresh…
I envy the big windows throughout your new home. That is the one thing I gave up when we moved into the condo. Our 70 yr old Cape Cod had HUGE windows everywhere letting in so much light. Don’t ever take those windows for granted!! Living room looks great!
I love lots of light. Our other house had great windows and this one does as well. I just love them!
I really like the color you chose as well – its a very nice neutral!
Decorating is a huge challenge for me as well. Not so much the big things like furniture, but the accompanying stuff such as artwork for the walls. 9 years in this house come the summer and I still only have 1 small piece hung in my living room. My dream would be to win the lottery and hire someone. Tell them what I like and let them go to town.
Artwork is really hard. We have a lot of pictures and finding the right place for them is tough. Of course, we still have the whole upstairs to hang stuff as well once those rooms are done.
It looks amazing – very cozy and homey!!! I think you decorate perfectly well – it suits you. I love the pretty magazine spreads but not for my home – we have a comfortable lived in home and it suits us!!!
Yes, show homes look great on the printed page, but real life is messy 😀
It looks awesome – you should be so proud on how it all turned out. Yeah, I think my decorating style could only be called “early miscellaneous!” as two pieces were bought at the same time. 😀
We definitely have a mish mash of stuff as we piece it together as we go. Guess that is what makes it our style 😀
It looks great Lori, such an improvement to how it was.
I’m not a very good decorater either, I have to honest that it doesn’t interest me very much either. I have things in my house or on the wall that are there since we moved in 20 years ago.
I like the idea of decorating. It is just kind of complicated and time consuming to get it just right.
It is GORGEOUS Lori!!!! You and John do amazing work!
You guys should have your own show on the network that does this type of stuff – AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
