Old timey lifting

It’s lifting day!  I don’t understand why my gym doesn’t have some of this equipment:

And if only rolling over my hips and thighs on a machine would shape them. I would be all over that. Heck – I would sleep on it!  Or maybe I should try working out in heels…

Oh well, I had to make due with a leg press machine instead. 😀

Exercise Set/rep
Lying Leg press 3 sets of 10
Seated hamstring curl 3 sets of 10
Seated leg extension 3 sets of 10
Good mornings 3 sets of 10
Alternating side lunges 3 sets of 10
Kneeling leg press 3 sets of 10
Seated calf raises 3 sets of 10

FYI – it takes me 30-35 minutes to run through these routines I have been doing.

My gym is open on Thanksgiving for a while and part of me wants to go, but then there is that no shopping on Thanksgiving and does the gym count? The owner is normally the one who works on Turkey day, so it’s not like he is sitting at home while his employees work.  So, I don’t know what I will do.

Not to mention there is snow coming. Might be shoveling for exercise on Thursday morning.  4 to 6 inches is the forecast right now.  Yuck.  Bad timing with most of it falling between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Stay safe travelers!

We will be doing some prep work tomorrow for our dishes to take to Thanksgiving dinner.  We are bringing Alton Brown’s cornbread pudding and a brussel sprout dish – this one:  Pan seared brussel sprouts with cranberries and pecans, only leaving out the barley.

  • 1 pound brussels sprouts, de-stemmed and halved
  • ? cup fresh cranberries
  • ? cup gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
  • ? cup pecans
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Oil
  • Salt & pepper

Basically you saute everything except the cheese and maple syrup for 6 to 8 minutes. The add in the maple syrup, stir to coat.  Then toss in the gorgonzola cheese.

I hope it comes out good!

That video was so funny!! If only…

Our gym in the past has stayed open on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. And I have to admit, there have been times that I have gone. This year I noticed a sign saying they would be closed on T-day. And I was happy to see it. Even though I prob. would have gone if it was opened.

Interesting brussel sprouts recipe. It seems like it would be really tart with the fresh cranberries and only a Tbsp of maple syrup. One year I made a green bean recipe with a little balsamic and syrup. SOOOO good!

Have a happy and safe day!!

A long time ago, I went to a gym that had those hip roller machines. I had forgotten about the roller drum machines, too. Well, we thought they were doing something. I’m looking forward to trying your brussels sprouts dish….really!

I don’t think going to the gym is same as shopping, at least not for me. If you want to go, just go.

Seeing your Thanksgiving dinner plans makes me realize I need to think about Christmas dinner 🙂 it’s Christmas before you know it.

If you don’t blog before Thanksgiving: Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the company of your loved ones.

I think you should go to the gym on Thanksgiving
and get a short workout in it will help with any
excess calories you may get into later on that day.
I don’t think it is the same as shopping there open
you might be surprised that it is busy:) having worked
at a gym I do know the faithful workout people do show
    up and support there gym.

Do you remember the Gloria Stevens franchises? That was the first organized gym I ever joined. Part of the initiation was to have a “trainer” take you around and show you how to use the equipment. The rolling hip and leg thingy was the one they told us to never miss. There was also a thing where you stood on a platform and wrapped a strap around your waist, then it shook. I guess it was supposed to shake the inches off LOLOL!

Since we are going to my in-laws instead of my side, I’ve been assigned all new dishes. I’m trying 2 new recipes – but I’m not as brave as you – not sharing unless the come out good 😀

I bet that roller thing would feel good on my hamstring/glute area! 🙂

I equate going to the gym on Thanksgiving about the same as doing a Turkey Trot – it’s good for you, and it doesn’t hurt anyone, so why not do it if you feel like it?

I don’t think a gym open on Thanksgiving is the same as the mall. I hate that stores are opening so early for the holiday. I think it’s gross. But for some reason the gym feels different. And my gym closes early on Thanksgiving, which I am glad for.
