Another weekend flying by. I have not been to a movie in a theater in 2 years (the last Batman). It takes a lot to get me out to the theater and this movie did it. Godzilla! I am a huge Godzilla fan and grew up watching all the monster movies on TV. I loved Godzilla, King King, Rodan, Mothra, Gamera. Yay! Of course, I had to see this with my sis, so we met her, the nieces and my BIL for a Saturday showing.
I tried to get my nieces to look scared and this was the best take:
Good thing they have other talents because they are not thespians…
As a true fan, I have to say the last reboot of Godzilla with Ferris Bueler Matthew Broderick was horrible and disappointing. However – this reboot? Amazing! I loved it! No silly one-liners, excellent special effects. Just very good. I didn’t really care about the family at all – in fact I kept forgetting their names. But who cares because… Godzilla! Highly recommended.
We all went out to lunch and then it was time for John and I to get in a ride. Not going to waste a nice weekend day! Our original plan was to go to the lake and back.
It was pretty breezy and I was feeling fatigued just from a hard week. Work was pretty bad this week and on top of that I haven’t been sleeping well and I think it just took its toll. After 10 miles, I told John to go on to the lake. I still wanted the miles, but not the hills, so we decided to meet back up again a little later. I went back through the streets. Looking off to the golf course:
You can’t bike on the golf course. Probably a good thing 😀
Hometown Glens Falls and our future home when the never ending closing finally happens:
I love the paint job on this building!
I rode for another 10 miles or so and got a text from John that he was headed towards Coopers Cave and froyo! I headed that way and met up with him on the path and it was time for our treat!
I got a Mexican sundae, which is chocolate and peanut butter (under that whipped cream!) on top of vanilla yogurt. That’s probably my favorite thing to get at Coopers.
We actually got chilly eating this as it was much later than we normally are out riding and was starting to cool off.
My patented shot while biking!
All done! Tired, but still a good ride:
I have another project I am working on. I found something interesting up in the attic of the shop.
So, I got to cleaning it up. It’s quite old, actually. I took off the back to make sure there weren’t any buggies in it before bringing it into the house and found a stamp on the mirror from CD Widman, which is a company in Detroit founded in the 1800s! The mirror itself is beveled and has that funny coating on it to make it the mirror (not sure if that makes sense). This piece has been painted, so it isn’t the original finish. It looks pretty good clean:
This is going to become part of my dresser redo project, which I will talk about at some point when I get a chance. This will be getting a new coat of paint and detailed cleaning (there is paint on the mirror).
Sunday was also more family time! It was my dad’s birthday, so we gathered for ice cream cake!
I can’t believe another work week is upon us. I cannot get everything done on the weekends that I want to do! Note to self: buy a lottery ticket this week.
Check! Bought our lottery ticket. LOL! Gotta be in it to win it is our motto.. 🙂 Oh dear……. We really liked the Matthew Broderick Godzilla…….. lol…. what can i say we’re weirdos…. I’m sure we will like this one too… It was on our to do list this weekend but didn’t make it.. I have loved scary monster movies too from when i was a kid… When i was little and my brother were watching Dracula or Frankenstein or some such i would hide behind the couch and peek out..lol! Do you like The Thing ? the original? Scared the you know what out of me….. So glad you gave a review of the Godzilla. Now i have to go! Hugs! deb
I watched the original Thing and the Carpenter remake. Both uber scary!
I had a lot of posts to read, but I am caught up. So glad you are back to cycling…love all the pics…especially the garden ones!
I love the garden ones, too – finally!
Sounds like a fun weekend for sure!
I said just earlier today that weekends seem to go so fast – I enjoy the weekdays but Saturday and Sunday just fly by even on one like the one we just had where we really didn’t have that much going on.
Hope you start sleeping better!! Stress??
I have insomnia sometimes. Think it might be part of perimenopause or something else, but stress sure doesn’t help!
I’m interested in your mirror/dresser project! I have a very old mirror, round with beveled edges, that was ancient when I got it from my Grandma as a child. I’ve used it ever since – much as I like more clean, modern furniture, these little antiques make me happy.
Glad you got your bike ride in!
I like older furniture and things. I don’t necessarily like painting old pieces, but if the finish isn’t original or it is terrible shape, I will paint. My current dresser has no mirror and the color scheme is not what I want any more. I’ll post before pictures of what I am doing this week, hopefully. This was one of those projects that was going to wait, but may as well do it now!
Who knew? I never would have guessed you were a Godzilla fan! I don’t think I ever watched it or any of the other monster movies you mentioned. We watched some of the Frankenstein/Dracula movies on tv when I was little, and they gave me nightmares and a fear of the dark.
Its so fun to see your green green springtime happening there. Love the bike shot! And a very impressive amount of miles for someone who was fatigued! Definitely worthy of a sundae! I love chocolate and peanut butter together.
I loved monster movies as a kid. I don’t care for them so much now – but I have a lot of nostalgia to the Godzilla movies!
(((settles in and gets ready and excited to watch the dresser re-do unfurl)))
Woot for biking! Good for you to listen to your body and realize what you could and couldn’t do. I’m trying to be better at that myself. Also, I had to laugh at your line about lottery tickets. I bought two on Friday and just realized I never checked them. I generally go into a lottery ticket buying frenzy immediately after vacation 😉
I want to buy the tickets when work gets stressful LOL!
I’m not a huge Godzilla fan. I feel bad for the monster when he has to be killed. I know, my priorities are screwed up.
Good bike ride especially pushing through 29 miles on a tired bod.
You might want to watch Godzilla then 😉
What a wonderful weekend Lori! Sorry work & all is so stressful but glad you had fun ti,e with the movie, ride & family time! We want to see that movie too!
Beautiful ride pics!!!
Thanks Jody!
We were big into the Japanese-dubbed Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan type movies as kids. They were SO bad with the acting and the dubbing but as kinds, who cares? Great memories! Ben and I have been walking about seeing the new Godzilla in the theatre so I’m glad to hear it was worth it!
Go see it – if you loved the old movies, you will find this satisfying!
29 miles while you were fatigued. Think I need to work on my motivation. That mirror has a really interesting shape, looking forward to seeing how it ends up.
I was okay to ride, I just didn’t want the hills.
You know, I always ask them to leave off the whipped cream on a sundae, and for the life of me, I have no idea why. I should fix that. 🙂
Good for you for recognizing you weren’t up for the hills, but still getting in a good, solid ride. Great stress-buster there!
You are probably saving a lot of calories not having the whipped cream. 🙂
What a great weekend Lori!!! Loved going along on your ride with you, and belated Happy Birthday to your Dad!!!
Thanks Roz!
Happy belated birthday to your Dad.
You had a great weekend with so many fun things to do. I can’t tell you enough how happy I am to see more biking in your posts.
I haven’t been sleeping well the past 3 nights and it’s finally taking it’s toll. I was too tired to run this morning so I postphoned it to tomorrow and decided to listen to my body.
I can actually buy Illinois lottery tickets online – the only bad part about that is that it sends you a text message if you’ve won the lottery – even if its just $1!
Sorry work is being shitty – been there a lot lately too! Hugs!
I haven’t heard of a Mexican Sundae in years, my husband’s grandmothers favorite!
I have to agree very yummy!
