Waffails and caterpillars

Woke up to a rainy day today.  No biking in the morning, that’s for sure.  The morning proceeded to go not so well with breakfast.  I am out of coconut flour (the HORROR!!) and decided to make the coconut flour waffles with almond flour instead.  Well, I know that coconut flour is super absorbent, but still.

I was getting a lot of waffle run off, but I was thinking “It’s still good.”

run off

Well, then there was this:

breakfast

Yeah, I think that’s a fail. John said “You have to get a picture of that – it’s epic”  So there you go.

Today was to be a grain-free day, so I was flummoxed about what to make instead. Pre coffee and all that and brain doesn’t think so well when the plan gets derailed.  I went with the old standby of the 1-minute muffin in the waffle iron. The waffail (new word!!) peeled off pretty easily, so I was able to have breakfast ready in no time.

Moving on to more Tuesday randomness, here is an interesting article on the web that I  read lately:

For the Love of Food  –With all the posts on different diets and paleo/whole30/GAPS/gluten free/plant-based, etc.,  this is really a good piece on someone who became very disordered about food trying to be healthy.

I also got some nail art stamps in the mail yesterday and tried my hand at nail art.

It’s actually very fun and we are planning a girlie manicure day!  I’ll do a post on the stamping when we do that.

After the rain left this evening, we were out spreading more sand on the walkway because it got either all tamped down or washed away.  John spied this guy on my butterfly weed.

Milkweed Tussock Caterpillar

Isn’t he cool?  This is a milkweed Tussock Moth caterpillar.  Thank goodness for Google!  It’s amazing how easy it is to find stuff out now.  This guy makes kind of a boring little brown moth.  He’s more exciting as a caterpillar

And lastly, we are on stray cat watch again.  There has been a cat coming around the back and I didn’t think too much about it, seeing as the neighbor cats are here all the time.  However, last night 2 kittens were playing in the driveway and being herded by this cat, obviously the mother.  She was all hissy and growly at us, too.  Very protective.  So, need to see if they come back.  We think they are probably living in the abandoned garage of our neighbor.  I will try to get pictures if they come back.  And no – I have not put out any food or anything for them.  😉

It begins again…

Bummer about the runny waffle but you did a great quick alternative! I hate it when food gets wasted but what you gonna do?

Love, love, love the nail art – way cute!!! That caterpillar is amazing.

Oh isn’t funny how the cats always find you? 🙂

No one can imagine how much I hate caterpillars. If I ever find one of those horrible giant caterpillars on my tomatoes, THEY ARE GONE (the tomato plants). Well, that said, that is an amazing hairy caterpillar. And so interesting that he makes a boring moth.

LOLOL on the waffail. Oh, that’s so frustrating when that happens at breakfast. I know exactly how you feel. You recovered rather nicely!

Cool fingies. And kitten pictures please. I like the pictures of them in some distant place much better than I like them in my own yard : )

Oh no cat watch again – with kittens! I know the feeling. Three cats were dumped in my yard over the last month. I found a shelter for two and kept the 3rd for a potential adoptee. They backed out and now I have a new cat. His name is Seymour. Good luck!

I loved the waffail story & pic. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Your nails are pretty. I’m looking forward to your next post about that. I’m home bound right now, recuperating from a knee replacement and nail art sounds fun. Maybe I’ll try it.

    My best,
    Molly

That waffail is pretty funny, but it looked good with all the blueberries on top! YUM What a cool looking caterpillar! I love when I see an interesting insect. We saw a hummingbird moth that was pretty cool.

I can’t think clearly enough to cook in the morning – even for Christmas breakfast, I assemble the casserole the night before so all I have to do is put it in the oven. Your second breakfast looked yummy, at least! 🙂

Kittens!!!! Better you than me. 😉

You did a very good job of improvising with your waffail. It looked great! I don’t mind caterpillars, because they often turn into something beautiful and interesting–just not this guy. And kittens?? Keep us posted.

I want a waffle iron – fail or no fail. 🙂

Oh the cat watch again. I suppose it’s been a while and I think you’re safer with a group rather than the single stray that’s all alone and abandoned. Ok, did you or did you not put food/water out? I wasn’t sure with the winky smile.

No feeding. For real. Once you feed, you take responsibility and I am not going to do that right now. If they are around when the weather turns and it gets cold and they are still around, then I will put out food.

I LOL at John’s “get a picture its epic”. Kitties sure know where to go don’t they? HOPEFULLY someone else takes them in and rehomes them! Pixie doesn’t need any company! Love the nails too Lori. Have a great day!!

The stray cats in your neighbourhood have told each other where to go if they need help 🙂 Your the godmother of stray cats!

    Love the nails!

That caterpillar is amazing, so beautiful.

Oh my goodness on the kitten dilemma. My neighbor fed a stray cat in 2006 ; to this day Dale still comes around 2x daily for food. Has lived out 6 cold snowy winters.

My favorite workday breakfast is Pb&j 0% plain fage Greek yogurt and mixed berries.

Great job on the one minute muffin thingy… I need to see if I can find the recipe for that. At least you kept your sense of humor about the Waffail! 🙂

You are just the cat whisperer!! I broke my waffle iron a few years ago – I keep thinking I don’t want another one, until I see other people eating them! Glad the next one turned out!

I still would eat those waffles – my food never looks good! 🙂

Beautiful pic of the caterpillar! I never see those here – only when I lived back east…

    Love your nails!!!

Ever since I’ve known you, my waffle iron has been sitting unused in the back of a huge pantry where getting to it was almost impossible. I decided when we moved, I’d clean it up, put it is an accessible spot and start using it again because your recipes always look so appetizing. So what a hoot to see today’s Waffail. I wonder if I’ll be sending you pics of my failures soon!!
