Last night John and I had a date night. We had a groupon for Mouzon House in Saratoga. A place that really is not in our budget without a groupon. In fact, we went about a year ago with our last groupon LOL!
It’s a wonderful old house that has been converted to a restaurant with a New Orleans flair to it. Unfortunately, they no longer offer the half portions of dinners. Not sure why, but that meant no appetizer.
They did bring out some fresh grilled flat bread, though.
This was whole wheat and really good. I had a few pieces.
My entree choice was the Quail Gumbo. This is a farm-to-table restaurant and they use local purveyors for meat and produce. So, I thought I would try the quail.
It pretty much came with the whole little bird in there! It was a small bird. The whole thing was maybe the size of a normal chicken thigh. The gumbo was excellent, too!
John had shrimp and grits:
Not the best picture. So good as well!
After eating, we walked around downtown Saratoga. It’s nice to see this chiropractor with a sense of humor.
And the answer to the meaning of life?
Who knew?
We wanted something sweet, so we popped into Spot Coffee for a bit of decaf and split a S’mores bar.
This was half of the bar! Very tasty, too. We love this place and they are opening one up in Glens Falls early this summer. Yay!
Today brought my new head protection. I have tried 3 different brands of helmets over the years: Schwinn, Bell and Giro. Giro is definitely my favorite. It’s a good quality helmet and the outer shell is part of the styrofoam helmet instead of just being a covering (the problem with my cracked old helmet).
It’s a floral print with lots of color:

Pixie says “Really?”
There will be no painting of this helmet. Too cool looking as it is. Now I am out to take my new helmet for a spin!
Wow, dinner looked wonderful. I love it when my husband and I can escape for a date night. We try really hard not to even talk about the kids! I’ve never had quail, but I wonder what it tastes like. Very nice helmet…you’ll probably go faster since it’s so aerodynamic!
Quail is kind of like chicken LOL! Dark meat chicken
Very snazzy helmet! What a fun design – I wish you many safe and happy rides with it. 🙂
Prop Pixie makes me laugh. I put things on my cats all the time – it’s kind of funny how much they will tolerate before finally moving (and yes, giving me “that look”).
Sounds like a great place for dinner! Love the choices both of you made 🙂
You are now going to be a very cool biker. Not that you weren’t already one!
Someone thinks I am cool – yay!! 😀
What is quail like? I’ve never had it.
It’s like dark meat chicken, maybe a little gamey flavor to it. The gumbo was nice and spicy, so the quail was not the star.
I admire you for trying different things. I’m a poultry snob, so Quail would have been a no go for me. I have to have boneless, skinless chicken breast. End of story. I know…boring!
Love Pixie! I know that look well…..I’ve had cats all my life. When I was little I used to dress my cat in doll clothes! I still have scratch scars from that! LOL!
Enjoy the new helmet!
I think I read somewhere that we should replace bike helmets every 3 years or so. Something about the inner protective part breaking down over time. I’m going to treat this like the recommendation to change the oil in my car at 3,000 miles. Meaning 5 years sounds good. 🙂
Your quail pic reminds me I’ve been meaning to buy a Cornish game hen for roasting. Hmm, I wonder if I can do that in the slow cooker. 🙂
My old helmet was 3 years old. I got it right after the bikes were stolen – because they stole the helmet, too (and it was a Giro). The replacement was a cheaper helmet and I was not that fond of it, so after the multiple cracks, time to go. This one I love.
LOVE your helmet!!! Pixie – she is not taking to that but she looks cute! 🙂
Such fun pics!! The chiro & the meaning of life – love it!
Ummmmmm, the flat bread & s’more look delish!
Love the new helmet. Fits you to a tee. I’ll take John’s shrimp and grits over your quail since shrimp and grits is one of my favorites.
I loved the shrimp and grits as well. This gumbo was delicious, though! Lots of andouille.
What a nice date night! Sounds like you have had good luck with groupon. I have yet to purchase anything – none of my favorite places have shown up on there.
Love the new helmet- wish I had found something cute like that – mine is boring black!
What a fun night. I LOVE your new helmet. All the pretty colors on it.
Have you seen those nutcase helmets? They have fun designs. I have a boring, red helmet that I have probably had way too long.
LOL Another priceless Pixie shot! 🙂
I love the helmet, the chiropractor window (I bet Miz would love that too!) and the S’mores bar – whatever it is.
I wish you and John happy riding!
I know quail is like chicken – but I’m weird and non adventurous. 🙂 I remember going to a fancy restaurant and they served bison and I didn’t want to eat it. I’m silly.
I love the new bike helmet!!! It’s making me think maybe I should get a new one to match my fancy new wheels. The blue doesn’t go that well with the gray bike. I am decidedly NOT a cool biker like you so I need the matching stuff to try and fake it. 😉
Hooray for date night! Love that a Groupon could get you into a restaurant that would normally be too $$. I’d take John’s shrimp and grits though any day!
Happy Friday – have a great weekend!
OMG…LOL at Pixie as the helmet prop! And the “do you mind??” look on her face. Yay for date nights, great window displays and signage, and Friday. Have a great day Lori!
