I so badly wanted to bike this weekend. I am getting crabby with the no biking thing. It was just too windy, though. Also a bit cold. 40 degrees and wind is no bueno for biking, even for me.
So, we decided instead to do a little walking at Saratoga Spa Park. We drove down the way we normally bike. I don’t know if I have ever been on this road in a car and it was really weird.
There are lots of nice paths going through Spa Park. They were paved and mostly clear.
Can you believe it is spring? 😯
We trucked around for a while and then stopped by the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa in the park for a pit stop. This is a beautiful old hotel.
It’s 75 years old and so beautiful.
Lovely old wood work, too.
John and I thought it might be really nice to stay one night down here and bring the bikes down to bike around the park for a local get away.
After looking around, it was back outside. Along with SPAC, there is also another theater.
I wish the sun had come out because it was somewhat chilly. Amazing without the sun and I still needed the sunglasses because of the bright snow.
Of course, the big thing is the mineral springs. There are several places around Saratoga where you can collect water to drink at the springs.
Look at all the people filling up jugs. It’s free.
It continuously runs from these spigots.
The water is not to my taste. It is somewhat salty tasting. Sort of like Gatorade, but not sweet. I would much rather bathe in it at the spa than drink it.
After our cold hike (approximately 3.5 miles), we headed out for a beverage more to my liking.
Love the latte!
No biking, but a nice outdoor day. Next weekend. Biking. No matter what.
I found that driving the route where we normally do our long runs feels odd…and long, too! Takes forever to get down the road in the car but it honestly doesn’t feel like that when I run. I hope you get to bike next weekend…I have to say, that was a lot of snow still on the ground!
The snow is ridiculous, really.
Not having time to explore Saratoga is one of our only regrets about our trip last summer. We only drove through it on our way to Albany. We wanted to go back and explore, but just ran out of time. That park where you walked looks really cool. And that hotel…wow!
Guess you will just have to come back!
That looks like such a lovely day. Its so weird to see that you were walking through the snow when I just came back in from a walk without even a jacket on! But spring will not stay here forever. I bet we get one more dump of snow between now and May. It will probably be on a weekend that you are biking without a jacket!
Thanks for sharing the day. John looks #verynice.
I am hoping we are done with the snow. That would be really nice.
And John is #verynice indeed 😀
What a beautiful hotel! I love it when I can stay somewhere situated near some outdoor space. Taking a walk on while on a little vacation is one of my favorite things to do. My rear-end doesn’t tolerate bike seats, so walking is my preferred method 🙂 Hope you thaw out soon!
What a great outdoor day! Good for you for getting out even when the weather would encourage otherwise. Also, I want to introduce myself to you. When I was scanning through blogs looking for more weight loss inspiration i came upon your blog and i’ve been following it for several months. Your posts are calming and inspiring. I feel a kinship with your weight journey, your love of lattes, cats and music (I saw the baby grand in the background of one of your photos). I will continue to follow your blog and leave messages more often.
Thank you for reading!
I enjoy local rambling. I even enjoy walking in the cold on the two days a year we have snow. (zero days this year).
Our local mineral spot is Hot Springs, AR. I enjoy the baths but no sipping for me. Too bitter!
My problem is that I don’t ramble. John will pull on my arm when we are walking sometimes to remind me to stroll. I always walk very fast. Never a fast runner, but a fast walker.
You’re lucky to live in such a beautiful area. Great hike and it will be wonderful when you get your bikes outside.
Oh wow….what a fantastic place, and a great area for a walk. Looks like a great weekend, and hopefully your week ahead is great too. Take care Lori.
The snow and cold are getting a wee bit old now. I’m itching to be out and about. I grew up much farther north and the city had a little area with an artisan spring where people could load up on water – although I really liked how it tasted. Wonder if I would like it now…
So glad you at least got out!!!! Enough of the weather!!! 😉 LOVE that resort – how beautiful!!!!
You still have a lot of snow Lori. The weather is crazy all over the world if you ask me. We have wind chills here so cold the minute you stick your nose out of the door, it’s frozen, it’s that cold. At this point everyone around me is desperately looking for some Spring weather after this cold long Winter.
Your getaway day looks like a lot of fun but nevertheless I hope the weather improves and you can get out on your beloved bike.
That sounds like the perfect day to me. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I am so ready for spring too Lori – this is getting ridiculous! I’ve heard through the grapevine that we’ll get close to 50 over the weekend – fingers crossed!
Glad you got in a hike in anyway!
Ah, that is why Saratoga Springs sounds so familiar.
