What better way to spend a fall day than wandering through corn? I had gotten a Groupon for a corn maze, so we made an early day of it. First, we headed out for breakfast at Uncommon Grounds. I had an Apple Crunch bagel with honey walnut cream cheese.
The coffee roaster is in the background.
Really the best bagels and coffee around. Too bad this is so far from home! Actually, maybe that is a good thing…
After relaxing, it was time to hit the Corn Maze!
The farm has lots of things to do for the whole family, and you could spend a good portion of a day here.
We warmed up with the ‘right turn only’ maze.
You can only make right turns. Looks simple enough, right?
Wrong! It was kind of hard LOL!
Then it was time for the real deal maze. You can see the overhead view of this maze here.
This is the maze this year. It is a tractor, as you can see below:
We got a flag (in case you need help) and then instructions on how the maze worked and what to do if you need help. There were 12 mailbox stations in the maze, each with a piece of the map. The more pieces you found, the more of the map you could see.
Our fearless leader.
Clock for the start.
Average time to finish the maze was 1 hour and 15 minutes. Wonder how close we will come to that?
Which way to go?
Look at all that corn!
I actually wondered if it would feel really claustrophobic, but it didn’t because the paths were quite wide. It was really easy to lose your bearings, though.
Think I will go this way:
We were going around really well, but then kind of ended back up where we started.
Kept going and thank you jeebus, we found this!
They think of everything in the maze! Now no hurry to find the exit.
We kept running into the same family and neither of us were getting anywhere!
We were filling out our map.
John says “Can we please get out of the corn maze?
So much corn!!!
Then finally, we found the last puzzle piece we needed and found the exit!
Victory is ours!
This is the bridge out of the maze. See all those flags? Those are other poor lost souls trying to find their way out.
I think I might dream about corn tonight.
It took us an hour and 15 minutes, so we were average!
We walked around a little more on the farm and found some goats! I fed them some feed.
Lots of games to play as well.
We then purchased a cider donut on the way out. Tasty!
Thanks Ellms Farm!
That was quite fun, I have to say. I have never done a corn maze before.
And just in case you think we didn’t bike this weekend, we did 😀
Just a short 11.5 mile ride, but had to sneak one in.
Pink item of the day? A candle I bought at the craft show on Friday, along with Mr. Niblet.
That looks like sooo much fun! Every year I vow to do the local pumpkin patch and corn maze and don’t. The island where it is gets so crowded you can’t even get onto the island. Next year I’ll go sooner to avoid the crowds.
It really was fun! I would do another one next year for sure. There are a few around here to do.
That looks like so much fun!
I’ve never done a corn maze. I think I might get a little nervous–a little too similar to that scene in “The Shining.” But it looks like you had a really fun day!
Somehow I kept reading (candy)corn maze the entire post…subliminal message??? Looks like fun but I’m glad there was a porta potty in the maze, lol!
Hi Lori! This is definitely my favorite post of yours yet! This is so so so funny! I started laughing and then teen daughter had to read it with me. It kept her amused, which is nearly impossible to do. 😀
🙂 Marion
FUN! I am so jealous of the cider donut, I grew up on those up north but they are completely nonexistent in the south. 🙁
I did a corn maze for the first time last year, and I kept thinking about how much I felt like I was in the beginning of a horror movie (it was at night, and there was a group of us–like the beginning of a teenage horror flick!)
Thank you SO MUCH for the suggestion of the go-girl thing! I laughed when I first saw it, but it looks SO PRACTICAL for after my surgery, that I ordered one 🙂 I have a feeling it will be my best friend by Day 2 or 3 post-op!
Oh, this looks like fun! We have a maze near my house, but I never think to go: http://www.midsouthmaze.com/ . There are others out of the city a bit, but this one is really close. I might have to see if I can con a friend into going. 🙂
I could handle the left turns only maze…but even looking at the corn maze gives me the willies!
It looks like a really fun day…and the cider doughnut looks so delicious!
Yay to bike riding!
What a cool and fun day! I love it. Seems you two had a great day.
Groupon is just starting to “grow” here, not that many good things yet but I did buy my first Groupon this weekend: unlimited pancakes for 2 for a ridiculous cheap price.
Fantastic! I’ve never ever heard of corn mazes before. It’s one more thing to do when I come over. 🙂 I wonder how many steps you’d gotten if you had worn a pedometer…
We think it was probably about 2 miles of walking.
maaan I wish we had a bada** maze like that here in Austin!!
Loved the fun pics & the goats – the laughing & the other sticking out the tongue – too funny!!!!!!!!!! Hey, glad you made it out of there for that yummy looking donut & the bagel before ain’t bad either!
What fun Lori – thx as always for sharing your fun with us. I wish we had cool stuff like that here!
We have a huge corn maze about an hour north of here and we went last year. The place was massive and they had 4 different intersecting mazes – took us almost 3 hours. I am NO good at this, very directionally imparied. Ben was a pro though and even helped quite a few lost souls in there 🙂
Who knew the mazes had potties? That’s hilarious. At least you didn’t have to dial 9-1-1 like those people did a couple weeks ago. Now you’ve reminded of cider donuts and that we haven’t been to our cider mill yet this year. Hmmmm, I’m thinking maybe a trip for a donut after my football winner meal may be in order!
I’ve never been in a corn maze. I think I’d get a little scared if I wasn’t making any progress. It looks like fun though.
What a fun day! I think I would get clausterphobic though – I have never been in a corn maze either – but when I used to take Hannah to the pumpkin patch when she was little, I definitely got a cider donut – so good!
We did one this year which was really fun. On the news in our area someone called the police when they got lost in the corn maze. LOL can you believe that!?
I have never been to one of those corn mazes but it looks like fun! I love that they give you the flag on a pole! I’ve been thinking about getting one of those doughnut pans to bake a healthier doughnut at home! I like a cake type doughnut but haven’t had one in years! Drooling here…
Hi Lori. What a BLAST!!! I LOVE places like that! (we’re actually going somewhere with a corn gun this weekend! Weather permitting) Have a wonderful Monday.
That looks like a lot of fun!!! Did you see (do you even watch) The Biggest Loser and their maze challenge this week?
I love how you guys get out and enjoy activities going on.
What fun. It makes me want to try a corn maze. . . or maybe I’ll just re-read your post and enjoy it vicariously!
