Happy Thursday! It’s almost the end of the week! Yippee! I was up and ready to hit the gym. After a protein drink, I headed out and got to work.

Whew! I decided to really work today and to do super and giant sets with these (pairing 2 or 3 exercises together). I got this workout done in 31 minutes! I was sweating at the end.
I love this little guy. He just cracks me up.
BTW – I lifted today because I am doing my Healthy Heart Weekend run tomorrow! I’ll shoot an email out to everyone just to remind as I am sure there are those that don’t read my blog very often (gasp).
I was ready for breakfast. Hope you aren’t tired of the 1-minute muffin thing going on here.
I made up the non-sweet one and chopped it up into a bowl of blueberry sauce. Then I put on a tablespoon of coconut butter 😯
I was totally in love! Who says you need grains for breakfast? Okay, I say that because I do love my oats, but this was really good. I actually was standing up eating this in the kitchen because it tasted so good to me before I made myself sit LOL! Yeah, I like food.
Lower (for me) carb/no grains day, so lunch was something that I cannot remember having in forever. I have to admit that this scared me a little bit. Eating a lot more fat is taking me out of my comfort zone, but I like it.
I cooked up a sausage patty from the smokehouse. Turns out it was a lean patty – as there was no oil left in the pan after I cooked it! I had to add some for the eggs.
No latte picture today. John was out this afternoon and brought a couple lattes home in travel mugs for us, so nothing really special to look at. I have switched to 2% milk for my lattes and it is yummy!
I am actually eating a few less calories on the lower carb/higher fat days just because I am not hungry, so that can be a good thing, but I have to be careful to make sure I eat enough (how weird is that to read on this blog??).
John won the last of the football picks, as I said yesterday, and he called for Denny’s tonight. I don’t know why he chose Denny’s for the last meal of the football season, but there you go. I am just still very happy with how accommodating they are with special requests. I would not have had eggs with lunch had I known that we were going to Denny’s for dinner. When you try to avoid corporate meat and don’t eat fish and are avoiding grains- that doesn’t always leave a lot left over to eat on a menu other than eggs. I cobbled together a tasty meal, though. I had a side of fruit:
A side of sauteed spinach:
This was really good. I can’t believe I am saying that about spinach, but it was! I was half expecting some kind of frozen spinach disaster, but it was baby spinach leaves freshly sauteed. At Denny’s. Who knew?
I decided to have an egg white omelet with cheddar in it for the entree. At first it came out as regular eggs, so I sent that back and had it done right.
It was so hot, too, when the correct one came out lickety split! I really do give them kudos for good service. Never be afraid to ask for what you want. You will be so much happier.
Question: Have you ever gone to a place with low expectations and gotten great food/service?
Good for you for sending back the eggs! I’m such a wuss and end up just eating stuff I don’t want. I need to be stronger!!!
Looking forward to the virtual 5K run this weekend!
I ate at Dennys on Wednesday night and I had no idea that you could get an egg white omlette! I always do the build your own slam. They have so many healthy options I can get something low cal and still scrumtious!
Thanks for the informative blog!
I love that Denny’s has some healthier options on their menu. My Mom and I used to go there once in a while but we didn’t order very healthy food! We actually don’t have any Denny’s around us now- weird!
Denny’s? Have to say you did great at ordering! And I guess from the comments that they have improved their choices overall.
That lunch? Could not eat it. But that breakfast = LOVE!
That sauteed spinach does look good!
im excited to participate in the heart health weekend.
I always like it when that happens. 🙂 We have several places in town that are very unassuming on the outside but have great food on the inside!
Glad you had a good day and enjoyed the last of the football dinners! Sounds like John picked well.
Love the weight lifting emoticon…hahaha…he is funny!
Glad you sent back the order and got what you wanted.
I am very particular in restaurants and have to be careful about gluten, but I can usually get exactly what I want…as long as I plan where I am going.
Happy Friday to you!
you had me at the SIDE OF FRUIT!!
I need to do that for the child.
she’d love&scarf that right up 🙂
We eat at Denny’s quite often. Love their healthier choices. The one here in town is so so with its service so when we ate at one while in San Antonio a while ago i was pleasantly surprised at the service. The manager was what looked like from India and he and all the staff couldn’t do enough for you.
Yes, I have. Great for you to do so well on your low(er)-carb days! Have a great weekend!
Will be running today (I’m commenting on Fri morning) for Heart Healthy Weeekend. On my way to the gym soon…
I like Denny’s! (Don’t know that I’d have used it for my football win-celebratin’ dinner, but that’s just me.:)) I’m always pleased when a restaurant either has a few healthy options on their menu or has savvy servers who can help you create a healthier version of their standard fare. I’m also fortunate to live near many that do just that.
As you know I already got my run in, the advantage of a time difference: my day starts earlier 😆 It was fun to do, thanks for hosting!
I never had that experience with a restaurant but I did the other way around.
I haven’t been to Denny’s in ages! Want to hear a funny story? Back in the day, when there was a school holiday, Hannah would stay at her friends house because her mom stayed home during the day.
I went to pick her up – mind you Hannah was 6 and her friend Amy was 7 at the time. On the drive home I asked how her day was and she said “is a dollar a good tip?” I was like “what are you talking about?” Turns out this Mom gave Hannah and her daughter $10 to go to Denny’s for lunch – by themselves! Across a busy street! I still can’t believe they waited on two little girls who were all by themselves – but now Hannah’s almost 19 and she still remembers it!!
I love the idea of a microwave muffin topped with yogurt for breakfast! I usually only make them for evening snacks, I will have to try this new breakfast idea 🙂
I’ve only been to Denny’s once and it was kinda gross. I got a breakfast sandwich with fruit. In all fairness, it was our second choice. IHop was closed 😉
I haven’t been to Denny’s in eons. I guess I assumed they DIDN’T offer many healthy options, but now I see differently. I think we may give it a go soon!
Have a great Friday Lori!!!
That side of fruit was so cute! You make your food look so ready to eat! I don’t do that but maybe for people having trouble losing weight, that is the key! 🙂
OK< looking for that coconut butter recipe – I have coconut in the house! 🙂
PS: Just out of curiosity, do you think you can use applesauce instead of pumpkin.. or something else if you don’t have pumpkin in the house?
Judy – I am sure you can use applesauce in place of the pumpkin.
I often stop at Denny’s while I am traveling. They are good about telling you what is safe when you are gluten free. We don’t have one nearby or I’d be there more often. I love breakfast for dinner! We do have a Cracker Barrel which I thought would be a GF nightmare but I’ve had good luck there surprisingly.
Speaking of low expectations, I am having breakfast tomorrow morning at the Cracker Barrel – while service might be good, I don’t have high hopes of getting much of anything remotely healthy, lol. Not my choice, but my running club is meeting there.
Man I hate the night sweats!!
I haven’t been to Denny’s in YEARS. But have had great service at just a little local cafe.
I will be doing my run/walk this weekend even though I lost a toenail from running last Sunday. 🙁
