Nooch? I think not.

Thanks for the cheer ups from yesterday’s post.  I can look pretty sad if I want to, and I am not above using it on John at times 😈

I am done with the feeling bad, though.  I now declare my attitude to be:

Whining is not radiant, and that’s what I want to be.  It’s just going to take as long as it takes.  I should see about some PT.  My doctor basically said to work on regular activities and my injury would let me know how far to take it.  I have ordered a foam roller today.

You know what Wednesdays are!  We went to Panera today.  Doesn’t this case look good?

I had myself a blueberry bagel.  Yum, yum.

Nice relaxing breakfast. Then it was time for work.  My work partner today:

She slept next to me for 7 straight hours while I worked.  Lazy, lazy cat.

Lunch time and I felt like a smoothie.  So I made a protein shake with banana flavored protein powder, some pumpkin, and some Kellogg’s Bran Buds (which I got as part of Food Buzz Tastemaker program), with ice and water and a pinch of glucomannan.

Pretty good.  Not totally sold on the banana flavor protein powder; it was pretty strong.  I also had a side of steamed broccoli with nutritional yeast, aka nooch.

Tastes just like parmesan cheese my a**!!  I did not care for the taste of it, although I like the nutritional stats.  Smells funktacular, too.  I have a big bag to use up.  Eeep!

Latte time!

After work, I did a strength workout with the gym in a bag with biceps, triceps, chest and back exercises.  My back actually feels pretty much normal now, it’s just my leg.  I tried doing some pushups, but my leg couldn’t support me, so those are out for a bit still.  I also did a longer walk today, but I took the crutches so I could rest on them (which was a good idea).  Getting there!

Dinner time involved lots of color!

Yum.  These strawberries are so darn good.  Almost gone, too.

Last night I practiced my guitar for the first time in months.  My fingertips hurt LOL!  I am going to try to go 5 days a week of practice.  Part of an effort to be a little more unplugged.  I am working on the classical style of guitar – why I try learning the hardest style is beyond me.  Guess it is because I like it 😀   I would love to be like Sharon Isbin, whom we saw in concert.

Evening snacktations for movie time!

Granny Smith that I cut the middle out of and microwaved for a couple minutes.  Then I mixed some ricotta cheese with bran buds, cinnamon and agave and stuffed in the middle.  This is pretty good!

Ever tried nutritional yeast? I need help with ideas!

I found that adding sea salt to the nooch helped. For broccoli etc i mixed nooch and balsamic viniger and some spices and it was really good!

Never tried Nooch and now not sure I ever will 🙂 I love banana and banana flavour PP. Today’s first 3 meals were smoothies with a banana in each. Hey they were pretty brown so I had to use them up 🙂

Lori – this cracked me up! I’m in your boat and “nooch” definitely does not taste like cheese to me. I do enjoy it sprinkled on my popcorn, though. It’s more nutty than cheesy.

Maybe it’s better in recipes, like soup? You might try searching Sagan’s blog (“Living Healthy in the Real World”); with the various raw and vegan challenges she’s done, I’m sure she found some uses for nooch. The only time I’ve had it was as an ingredient in some dehydrated kale chips (bought, not homemade).

Glad to hear you’re able to do some upper body strength exercises; that’s got to feel good!

I thought of you today: I tried one of those Attune bars. (Dark Chocolate raspberry) Wow-o-wow, it was tasty! Loved the little freeze dried raspberry bits. And just the right size and carbs for me, too. 🙂

Thanks for the honest assessment of the nooch, lol!!!

You must emanate a very calm persona for Pixie to sleep so soundly right next to you. My cats don’t last that long with me, or I move the wrong way, and they get mad and leave.

Glad you were able to get a workout in, and that you ordered a foam roller! Kelly posted a link to a video in my comments today that shows ways to use one if you need any ideas.

I don’t know as I am so calm, although I have to sit still while transcribing. We can actually pick up Pixie and move her while she is sleeping and she will just look up and go back to sleep. She is so lazy.

I do like nooch. My favorite way to use it is for mac n cheese. I mix it with some water or a little milk and pour it over elbow mac. We ate this a lot when little daughter was diagnosed with dairy/milk protein allery at 1 yr. She was vegan until age 5 when she finally tested out! Before then, she ate lots of nooch!

Lori! I just remembered what my physical therapist started working with me on, and said it was the most important thing to do, and that was strengthening my core. When I started going to see her it was like I had no comprehension of what my core was. The idea being that if your core is super strong, it will support your back and prevent further injury.

Thanks for the review of the nutritional yeast. I know Gina at the fitnessista uses it a lot. http://fitnessista.com/

I like the baked apple idea too.

Oh no, I had nutritional yeast on my health food store list! My vegan friend loves it. But, then again, she hasn’t eaten real cheese in several years so she probably forgot what it really tastes like! I’m curious to know if any of your other readers like it.

    I don’t know from Nooch.

The guitarist that I really enjoy is Jesse Cook who plays flamenco/latin guitar …

I’ve seen him in concert and he’s just so fantastic.

The Panera pic is a great photograph.

Glad you’re back to being Radiant! 🙂

Your take on nutritional yeast made me laugh – yes, it does have a weird and pungent smell! I actually really like it, but I think it works better when mixed with something wet, like a sauce, rather than sprinkled dry. My favorite use is for it in in pesto sauce where I sub it for the cheese – it works really well. I also use it to make a creamy cheese sauce by making a regular white sauce (bechamel) with soy milk, margarine and flour, and then adding some nutritional yeast, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Works pretty good for mac and cheese. Good luck!

Way off to topic but I just wanted to let you know I have been reading, well stalking, you for awhile and you are my hero. I also have been using your protein pancake and blueberry (though I use strawberries) topping recipes and I think I am addicted. Thanks for sharing what you do and being such a great role model!

So glad you are getting better little by little! Yahoo! That guitar playing can help in the interim! Cool!

OK, I love the Panera pic.. I am hungry! 🙂 And Pixie, if only I could sleep that good!!!!

What banana protein did you try? I tried one not too long ago & not enough flavor for me so I took it back. I am using a yummy oatmeal cinnamon flavor & a cafe latte one too! So good!

    Hope things keep looking up!

Oh! I have a recipe for vegan mac & cheese on my blog that is pretty exceptional. The base is made up of silken tofu and nooch, so you get your protein in with your noodles 🙂 Nutritional yeast is also pretty good mixed up with hummus.

Sounds like you’re making progress with your injury!! I need you to inspire me to play guitar more – the callouses on my fingertips are long gone by now…

I’ve never tried nutritional yeast and I don’t ever really want to. I LOVE cheese. I don’t want any substitutes! lol!

Your Panera bagel pic is killing me! Damn gluten. ;P

Glad you are feeling a bit better and able to move about more! Hope you get 100% soon!
