This week is a little different schedule wise. Breakfast started out not with a bagel, but with this!

Of course, this is because we had bagels yesterday when we met Sharon and her husband. That meant no bagel today. I thought about going out for a bike ride, but it was a little drizzly this morning, so I just got down to brass tacks and worked. Boy, sometimes work just gets in the way of things you want to do, know what I mean?

Lunch time and the sun came out and it got much warmer, so I decided on a summery lunch:

Fage 2% with strawberries and some of that flax crunch cereal (this box is old!!) and honey.

Since the sun was out and shining after a couple days of rain and yuck, I put on the walking shoes and walked to the bank to deposit my paycheck. I did the happy paycheck dance on the way there, too!

A nice 2 mile walk break during the day. It was getting warm, too. Hello vitamin D!

I did a bit more work and then made up lattes. John was busy, so the duty fell on me today.

I decided to have a larabar with my latte today. This coconut cream is my new favorite flavor of larabar. Yum!

Thunderstorms moved in during the late afternoon. It really now officially feels like spring with thunderstorms and lots of green. It is about as green as it normally would be in the beginning of June!

Cooked up some chicken thighs for dinner. Nothing exciting and I have neglected the recipe stuff. I also have a yucca root to cook up for this month’s veggie challenge, but I haven’t gotten around to that!

Generally a quiet day. Good thing because I am going to be pretty busy for the next several! Watching Tour of Amgen tonight. It is threatening rain this evening, so I am going to leave the biking to the pros and just go in the morning.

Today, John and I had the privilege of meeting Sharon and her husband, Mr. Bill, today for breakfast. Sharon and her husband are on a road trip up the northeast and when she contacted me back at the end of January that she was going to be near my area for a few days, I was excited! Not many people come up to our little area (but they should).

Sharon and Bill are quite the hikers and you can read about their adventures at her blog Gains and Losses. Anyway, we coordinated schedules and Sharon wanted to meet at North Country Cafe, which is in focus pretty much every Wednesday on the blog

We had a great talk. One of the great things about the internet community is that you really can form friendships online. It’s surprising when you meet an online person in real life how you can just start talking right away. John and I are both somewhat shy, but when you meet someone you have corresponded with online – it’s like you already know them and have plenty to talk about. Not to mention that all 4 of us have a whole bunch in common (music being a common thread). A couple cups of coffee help me out as well with the chattering

I had to laugh at my hair in this picture. It looks really red, which it isn’t. Must be the lovely hue of florescent lights.

I can’t wait to see how Sharon portrays the North Country on her blog!

It’s a thinky post today!

Doesn’t it sometimes feel like things go around on the internet like the collective in Star Trek? Lots of posts recently about accepting ourselves or giving up dieting or what have you.

As you know, I have been struggling a bit with body image the last few weeks. The funny thing is that is coincided with me not weighing myself for this month as one of my goals. I don’t know if that is coincidence, because I don’t weigh myself every day, or if it is just the turn a mind will take sometimes for whatever unknown reason.

I really have been seeing myself as bigger than I am. Yes, I am 10 pounds heavier than I used to be, but that certainly is not 100 pounds heavier, and I have stayed right around this range (give or take 5 pounds) for the last year and a half. Yet, I feel almost like I look like I did at 250, which I know isn’t true.

That is the weird part. I don’t know where that feeling comes from. Anyhoo, there has been just a little cavalcade of posts and articles the last few weeks that really have kind of fallen into my lap lately. I am not one to believe in signs, destiny, fate or anything like that, but maybe I have just noticed these in particular because I really need to think about them.

Some of the posts that struck a cord with me lately. These are little excerpts from the posts, but please mark them all to read in full.

Shauna – ”Anyway, there I was feeling like a stinking fraud and like nothing I wrote would ever be worthy until the day I could report, Hey folks, you can come back now. I’m normal again! I match the After photo!”

Cammy - “Here’s wishing us all a peaceful spirit and the strength to accept it. We really ARE worthy, just as we are right now”

Yoni Freedhoff (this is an old post, but I love it). “ Set your goal to do your best and never be discouraged if it’s not as good as someone else’s.”

And this one today, which just spoke volumes and volumes to me and I really loved it. 8 Ways to Capture & Keep Your “Body Peace”

Important points for me:

“ If you can’t find a way to be happy in this moment, right now, regardless of your size, shape or weight, then you probably won’t feel happy 10, 20 or 30 lbs less.” Totally true for me. There is that fine line you walk between trying to improve because you want to and improve because you aren’t happy.

“Body esteem has NOTHING to do with actual hard numbers. You can find women who are 200+ lbs and who love every curve. It’s a state of MIND.” It’s all about attitude.

“Is your physique the only thing you have to offer the world?” Hell no!

Definitely read the rest of that one. It’s good.

I am just going to be me. I am going to be happy with how I am right this minute, regardless of whether I ever get off 10 more pounds. It doesn’t matter in the scheme of the world. Sure, there are going to be people who judge me because people do, let’s face it, but their judgement of me has no value to me – and I need to not judge myself, either.

The weekend had the most glorious weather! It was supposed to be pretty warm Saturday (upper 70s), so we decided on an afternoon ride for ice cream! Last weekend, we did a 50+ mile ride and were pretty tired on Sunday, so we backed down a bit and John mapped out a 40 mile ride with hills. We had a destination in mind, so John planned around that to get us to 40 miles. After fueling up with a big lunch, I lathered up with sunscreen and we hit the roads.

We probably should have let lunch sit a little longer because my tummy was not happy with riding for the first 5 or 6 miles. We cruised along for about 12 miles before stopping just as we got to the top of a hill coming into downtown Glens Falls.

This is a 5 point intersection and if you can believe it, they use to have a traffic light here before they put in the circle. It sucked if you just missed the light because you had to sit *forever* to for the light to go around 4 times. The circle is much, much better.

This is my team Espresso jersey.

From here, we took a long way around to hook back onto the Lake George path. Now it was time for the hills! We normally get to the top of this section of hills at mile 11, so it was a nice challenge doing it after riding for a while.

As we were climbing the b*tch hill, a couple people passed us going up and I felt slightly annoyed at why I couldn’t go faster. Then I caught up to them again as we were approaching the peak of that hill where it gets steep to the top and they got off to walk their bikes up. Petty me decided I was going to ride on past them LOL! I was tired, but I thought “no way am I going to walk up this part”. I should have thanked them for the impetus.

Made it! This was about mile 18. Look at that line of cars for the outlet mall.

I asked John to pose, but after hitting the top of the hill, he wasn’t all into that.

Then it was 2 miles of nice downhill riding to the lake! Wheeeeee! A little energy reward once we got there.

Did I say how gorgeous it was on Saturday?

See that sky? That is known as sunburn sky to Lori. I put on more sunscreen while we stopped here.

I was nice to sit a spell and get some rest. I was saying to John how much I loved days where it was this nice at the lake before all the tourists come and make it all crowded.

We didn’t stop too long, because I had ice cream on my mind! That was the reason for the ride

We headed back up the way we came. This is the 2 mile climb back up to that overpass, but it doesn’t seem as bad going this way because the last tick up is not so steep. Then at mile 26, we arrived at our destination:

Great Escape isn’t open for the season yet, but Martha’s is! It was really crowded, too. All the locals love Martha’s and with good reason. We set up camp under the metal umbrellas:

My treat for the day? This is the Scholarship Sundae (proceeds fund a scholarship). Apple pie soft serve with raspberry sauce and chocolate fudge. Topped with cookie crumbs.

John got the cherry (har har). The one fruit I do not eat would be cherries. Ick. This is a regular size sundae. I can’t imagine how big the large size is!

This was soooo good. We like to say we have biking tastebuds because everything tastes just that much better when you have worked hard before eating.

We altered our route on the way home to avoid some traffic and decided to go around on the path with a couple extra loops and then finish up. We saw this family on the canal:

Aren’t they the cutest! Eeeeeeee!!! Normally we only see ducks on the canal. First time ever to see geese with babies.

A little less than a mile to go (around mile 39), John’s bike started making a funny noise. Oh no! The back tire was flat! Look at what was sticking out of his tire.

That is a 2 inch nail! We have super duper puncture proof tires on our bikes now after the Flat Tire Saga of 2011, which I am sure you all remember. However, no tire can withstand a 2 inch nail. John was going to walk the rest of the way home, but then just decided to change the tube so as not to harm the wheel. He can change a tube quite fast now.

Then the last 3 minutes to home.

Ride stats:

Total miles: 40.2

Average speed: 12.6 mph

Top speed: 27.2 mph

Calories burned: 1200

Hopefully that flat tire is not gong to bring about another round of flats like last year. Other than that, it was a great day and a great ride!

Another week has gone by. Things are really looking green around here now. More and more trees are leafed out and we have had to mow the lawn a couple times already. Still a little on the chilly side, but you can’t have everything.

Maureen tulip:

Queen of the night:

The make such a nice combo together.

More teeny daffodils.

One of my clematis (clemati?). This is the Multi Blue.

I moved it to the side of the house to see if it would be more vigorous. It gets much more sun here, but doesn’t seem all that interested in becoming a real true clematis.

This is Iceland Tulip. I only got 1 up this year.

I also bought some bleeding hearts a few weeks ago. I didn’t think I would get any blooms on them this year, but there were a couple!

I love these.

They are in the shade part of the garden. See how the daylilies are totally overtaking everything?

I have to thin them out. It’s only May and they are all over the place. If anyone wants any, please let me know and I can dig some up and send them (if okay to your location). They are the the tall old fashioned orange ones. The liriope has not come up yet. Those are late to start in the spring and where the empty spot is

The Shirley tulips are getting darker now:

Getting on the last legs of those.

The passionale tulips are still going strong. It was hard to take pictures today as it was windy LOL!

I spotted a new bloom coming, too.

This is one of my bearded irises. A new to me plant. I have never grown irises before, so I am all excited about that!

Have a great weekend and a Happy Mother’s Day!

New lifting day. You are getting all kinds of lifting posts this week

I was not sore at all from Tuesday’s workout, but part of that is new moves and lighter weights. Today was the second part of this month’s stage, so without further ado:

On to Stage 3B

Exercise

Set/rep/weight

1. Prone Cobra

3 sets of 70 second holds

2a. Front Squat

1 set of 6 at 15#, 2 sets of 6 at 30#

2b. Chinups

3 sets of 6 assisted (less assistance)

3a. Stiff-legged Deadlift

3 sets of 6 at 95# (was not supposed to do this rep range.)

3b. Dumbbell Push Press

1 set of 10 with 20# DBs, 2 sets of 15 with 15# DBs

4a. Split Stance Single-arm cable row

3 sets of 15 at 30#

4b. Barbell Split squat

3 sets of 15 with 45# bar

The Finisher – Leg Matrix

20 bodyweight squats, 20 alternating front lunges (each side), 20 side lunges (each side), 20 body weight squats

This workout was tough. It’s a little hard on the first time with a new group of exercises trying to find the balance of enough weight versus too much. It’s even more challenging because of the rep differences. I thought I could push press the 20# DBs since you get assist from the legs, but I could only eke out 10 reps instead of 15. Then I dropped down to the 15# DBs to finish out.

I love the stiff-legged deadlift. Not sure why, but I do. I loaded up the barbell and worked on that one. However when I got home, I realized that I wrote down 6 reps instead of 15 on that one. So, I was lifting much heavier than I was supposed to. Ooops! So, that will look wonky at the end of the month stats wise.

Finisher B. The leg matrix. How I hate this with the heat of 1000 burning suns! It burns!!!! It normally calls for jump squats and jump lunges, but I actually modified this because I can’t do up and down plyo jumps with my back, but still damn hard.

I totally had jelly legs when I was done. Breakfast was fast when I got home. 1-minute muffin (applesauce version) topped with almond butter.

While this does not look filling, it really is. Between the 28 grams of fat and 12 grams of fiber with breakfast, it will last me all the way to lunch. Plus I did have an post workout shake. As an aside – I still can’t believe Peyton Manning is a Bronco!!

Here is a picture of what I come home to most days.

She rolls over for tummy rubbing, and John and I are trained very well to do her bidding.

Work very, very busy today. Surprising because usually on the last day of the pay period work is sparse as everyone tries to get in all their lines. As I told John, I am not complaining because it means I don’t have to flex hours to get my lines in.

Lunch came by quickly:

I am loving bakers with sour cream. It is a comfort food for me.

With my afternoon latte, I had a broken piece of John’s cookies from yesterday.

John got the recipe from allrecipes.net, but I don’t know which one it is. They are fudgy and good!

I got stuck at the end of my work day with a long file. That got me a late start on dinner, but at least it was extra lines to tack onto this paycheck. Woo Hoo!

The last of the salad mix. Yay – no waste there.

I am posting a little early. We are going out to the mall shopping and for coffee! Time to par-tay!

Never, ever trust weather.com. They lie! The forecast was for upper 50s and cloudy this morning with 0% chance of rain. So, that meant biking for breakfast! There was maybe a touch of mist while riding there, but the temps felt pretty good at 58. We arrived to our destination and it started to rain while we were sitting inside! D’oh!

I did enjoy my bagel, though!

John had coffee cake, which you can see in the background. They make awesome coffee cake at North Country Cafe.

It stopped raining mostly, so we headed home. Then the mist began again and then rain. It was a dreary and icky ride home! I went slower because of splash back from my tires, slower braking times and then the car/truck blow back (yuck).

Soggy rider!

Hey, at least we got 12 miles in, right? After a morning of work, I made up a quick lunch. I sauteed some broccoli in coconut oil and added in ground turkey, 1/2 cup of white rice and some orange ginger sauce (LaChoy).

This came out to be a pretty tasty lunch!

I loved how the sun came out in the afternoon. It was supposed to be cloudy all day, but then we already know how accurate the weather forecast was today

John presented me with my afternoon latte:

I had some cookie nibbles today as well. John made up chocolate cookies for his poker game, so we taste tested the deformed ones. Yum! John is quite the baker.

I made up a thrown together dinner tonight that actually tasted quite good. I had a few cans of things in the pantry that I wanted to use, so I came up with Cheesy Chickpeas! I know it sounds weird, but it came out really tasty.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of oil (I used macadamia)

1 clove of finely minced garlic

1/2 teaspoon whole cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon of salt

black pepper to taste

2 tablespoons of tomato paste

2 tablespoons of diced green chilies

One 15 oz can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed

1/2 cup of water

2 oz of shredded cheese (I used cheddar).

In a medium saucepan, heat the oil. Then add in the cumin seeds and cook until they sizzle (just a couple minutes). Add in the garlic, chickpeas, tomato paste, green chilies, salt and pepper. Cook this mixture for about 5 minutes over medium heat. I might add as an aside that just stopping the recipe here is actually really tasty.

Add in the half cup of water and bring to a simmer for several minutes. Slowly stir in the cheese so that it has a chance to melt. Don’t go using any fat free cheese here; you want it to melt. When the cheese is melted, serve and enjoy!

I loved this. I was kind of like a southwestern-ish style chickpea. I had mine with some mango on the side.

The whole batch is about 955 calories, so divide as you wish. I ate about half as this was my entree for dinner.

Tomorrow is more new lifting moves and I am excited! I get to do one of my very favorite moves – the stiff-legged deadlift!

Question: What is your favorite way to eat chickpeas?

I print out my workouts a little fancier for this since I am doing the same one for a month. Easier to read than my scribbling.

Today’s protein drink for the workout? Almond milk, cinnamon, applesauce, whey protein.

On to Stage 3A

Now it feels like the real ‘meat’ of the program. I looked at this workout on paper and did not have any idea how challenging it would be. Planks on a stability ball? Hello! This was really, really tough. I could barely hold 30 seconds on that.

The step over is something that doesn’t sound hard, but is. You take a step, put one foot on the step and the other one behind you on the ground in a lunge position. Then you lift the back leg up and over the step (without touching it) and come down in a lunge position. Then take that leg back over. Damn this is tough. I was supposed to do 15 on each leg, but I couldn’t.

And The Finisher? (please say this term in a deep menacing voice) As Rachel says, it is designed to finish you off. And it does. A squat thrust is also known as a burpee. I don’t care for burpees (and I hate the name – so forever are known as squat thrusts to me), so this was really hard for me. You do 3 squat thrusts, then 1 body weight squat. Then 6 squat thrusts and 2 body weight squats, and so on upwards. If you feel like it, you can rest for the same amount of time it took to do the circuit and do it again. No thanks! I was wiped out. There is no way I could have biked home without waiting at least 15 minutes to rest. Good thing I drove

Definitely a lot room for improvement with this workout!

I got home and baked up a banana bread pudding and topped it with coconut butter.

I love this breakfast because it keeps me full until lunch. Warmer weather meant that I bought salad fixings! Of course, today is colder and drizzly, but I need to eat it up.

The old stand-by of chicken, feta cheese and BBQ sauce. Yummy.

Fran made a comment yesterday about making great progress over the 4 weeks stages (thank you!). One thing that I make sure I do when I go to the gym is to challenge myself a little each time. So I will do 1 or 2 exercises with heavier weights, or longer hold times or whatever. Not every exercise because you will burn out. Just a couple. Then do different ones the next time. That is how you see the improvement. The strength building actually comes when you *aren’t* working out and the muscles repair and recover – hopefully stronger. So, if you have been hitting the weights, or even your cardio, and haven’t changed up anything in a while, do more. Challenge yourself. Make the most out of your workouts.

Ready for a latte? I was!

Pixie was annoyed that I had to make her get up so I could get this.

Why, hello there, Jabba! Sorry, haven’t seen Han Solo.

It was such a dreary day. We need the rain – I just don’t need the clouds for my mood. I finished up work just in time for dinner.

These blueberries were so good that I went back for a second bowl!

Good eats today. Yesterday I had myself a carb fest and over snacking. Definitely nice to eat like this today.

My mother is coming over tonight to show pictures of the cruise she just got back from. I roasted up some decaf so we can have that.

Here is hoping the rain stops so we can bike to breakfast tomorrow!

I completely did not realize that I finished up Stage 2 of the Fit Female on Sunday! I was checking to see when I would be done thinking it was next week, but I already did 4 weeks. Dang that went by fast. Just a refresher that these were alternating workouts 3 times a week. I lifted on Tues/Thurs/ and either Sat or Sun (depending on biking). Where it says 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, etc., that means those exercises were done as supersets. Here were the workouts and my improvements:

Stage A – I did this workout a total of 6 times

Exercise

Set/rep/weight Week 1

Set/rep/weight Week 4

1a. Cable Wood Chop (high to low)

3 sets of 8 each side at 20#

3 sets of 8 each side at 30#

1b. Plank

3 sets of 60 second holds

3 sets of 80 second holds

2a. Dumbbell squat with offset load

3 sets of 8 with 15# DB

3 sets of 8 with 25# DB

2b. Alternating dumbbell overhead press

3 sets of 8 each arm with 10# DBs

3 sets of 8 each arm with 20# DBs!!

3a. Single-leg Bent Knee Deadlift (video)

3 sets of 8 with 20# DBs

3 sets of 8 with 20# DBs

3b. Assisted Chin Ups

3 sets of 8

3 sets of 8 with more resistance

4a. Alternating Lateral Lunge

3 sets of 8 each with 15# DBs (had to drop the weights during set 3)

3 sets of 8 with 15# DBs

4b. Two-point dumbbell row (video of me!)

3 sets of 8 each arm with 20# DB

3 sets of 8 each arm with 25# DB

I was very pleased with the overhead presses and getting up to using the 20# dumbbells for that one. Maybe I can get to 25 someday without doing a push press! I have to say that the single leg dumbbell deadlift was really hard. I maxed out on what my left leg leg could do. I didn’t want to go heavier on the right, so I don’t really know what I would have ended up at. I also was pleased at holding the plank for 80 seconds at a time. My core is feeling strong.

Stage B – I did this a total of 6 times

Exercise

Set/rep/weight Week 1

Set/rep/weight Week 4

1a. Reverse Cable Wood Chop (low to high)

3 sets of 8 each side at 20#

3 sets of 8 at 20#

1b. Jackknife on stability ball

3 sets of 8 (without falling over…fail)

3 sets of 8 – no falling!

2a. Step Ups

3 sets of 8 each leg with 25# DBs

3 sets of 8 each leg with 30# DBs

2b. T Pushups

3 sets of 4 each side

3 sets of 4 each side, 1 set with 5# DBs

3a. Single-leg Squats

3 sets of 8 each leg

3 sets of 8 each leg

3b. Alternating lateral raise

3 sets of 8 each arm with 5# DBs

3 sets of 8 each arm with 13# DBs

4a. Reverse Row

3 sets of 8

3 sets of 8

4b. Supine Hip Extension to Leg Curl (SHELC)

3 sets of 8

3 sets of 8

I was happy with this group because of the T pushups. I added dumbbells to them, but balance is quite hard with this, even using hex dumbbells. It hurts my palm, too. I maxed out on the step ups with how much weight I can hold in my hands. I can’t hold more than a 30# dumbbell in each hand without losing grip strength. I messaged Rachel on Facebook and she told me to try using the squat cage and a barbell, so maybe next time. I also got my lateral raise up to 13# dumbbells! That is the heaviest I have ever done that move, so I was pretty happy about that.

Thoughts? I feel much stronger. I do not feel any thinner. (I am not weighing myself right now). I think my clothes maybe are fitting a bit looser, but I just have been feeling large lately – major body image issues. I haven’t liked my pictures lately, so I obviously have something mental going on right now that I need to figure out, whatever it is.

I might have to tweak the eating plan. Rachel has steps to do for each stage with the eating, but to only change if you aren’t seeing results. So, maybe that is next for me to try.

Tomorrow starts stage 3 and some old familiar moves for me – like the deadlift!

Saturday ride time!! John planned out our route for the day.

This was about a 50 mile loop. We headed out at about 10:30 as we thought we would go out for lunch in Saratoga. Temps of about 60 predicted. There was a tailwind on the way down there and we were booking! We took our first stop at mile 11, which is at the peak of some hills.

It was a nice day. I was a bit chilly to start with. I just had on my YMX Yellowman shirt and my jacket.

However, I was sweaty at this point.

We headed back out and zoomed on down to Saratoga. Hills are easy with a tailwind!

We got to Saratoga around mile 21 or so with an average speed of 14.3 mph! We ate at Elizabeth’s Table, which is a reincarnation of the Cupcake Lab, which moved.

Not so much focus on cupcakes, though. They do focus on local products, which is neat. I got an Irish Breakfast burrito, which had egg, potato, cheese and corned beef hash!

Yum! I had a biking appetite for this. Early on in miles, I get really hungry. When the mileage gets up there, I lose my appetite.

After lunch, we walked around Saratoga and saw a sign for a free Bonsai show. It was a display of the local Bonsai groups (which is actually pronounced “bone-say”. I have always said it wrong). It was neat!

This one was cool:

We got to vote on our favorites. I chose this one:

I also liked this one:

After we went through this exhibit, it was cuppicake time! We hit up Bettie’s. I got a Cosmopolitan. It is a cranberry cupcake with lime buttercream.

Intense! I don’t think I would get this one again, but it certainly was flavorful. And full of artificial color goodness This is a regular size cupcake, which seemed kind of small to me. I think they make them smaller now. John got a jumbo German Chocolate and lopped off a hunk for me to eat. We also had a visit from my sisters and the nieces, who live down here.

Niece noshing on cupcake:

We had to leave shortly thereafter as we had about 2.5 hours of riding ahead of us. We took a longer route home than to get there. About a mile and a half out, I noticed the the strap to John’s bike bag was dangling and we pulled over to fix that. Then I though I would check and see if mine was doing that and I noted that my bike bag was not on the back of my bike!! I realized that I left it on the bench next to where the bikes were parked when I was getting my helmet and gloves on. Cue panic!!! I tried to turn around fast and ended up toppling right over. At least it was onto someone’s lawn and not asphalt. John was still upright, so he took off back to where we had parked the bikes. I got myself righted around and I hit every. single. red. light. Ugh! I was almost there and John was on his way back to me with my bag. Thank goodness. If we had been anywhere else, that bag would have been long gone. It had my camera, wallet, phone, keys – all that good stuff in there. I would have been very sad if it was missing. Phew.

Of course, all of that meant adding over 2 miles onto our trip, which was already long enough LOL! Did I mention we were now heading into a headwind? If not, consider it mentioned. My legs were feeling quite good, though. We just kept churning out the miles. We stopped at mile 36 for snacks:

I had 2 dates. These are the big medjool dates that are about 65 calories each.

It is a very pretty view on this part of the ride.

I took the lead to let John draft. He is always much faster at the start of our ride and I am much faster at the end of the ride. It was brutal into the wind, though, I have to say. When we hit the downhill portion where we normally hit 30+ miles per hour, we only managed 23! That was how hard the wind was blowing. You can see that downhill in the map above. We reach the river level at the bottom of that downhill.

Phew!

At about mile 45, we came back up that climb and knew we were getting close to finishing up. My thigh was aching a fair amount. I have to say that is really so frustrating to have that issue. There is no solution for it, either. Booo to permanent injuries.

Here is the top of the hill:

This is the bike route, but it is a very busy road and I don’t like to ride on it, so we just cross over it (we are at an intersection) and take a left at that light.

It takes us out of the way, but we avoid a hill and the traffic – even though it adds several miles to the trip! Finally home!

Ride stats:

Miles: 51.8 (thank you Lori forgetting her bike bag… )

Average speed: 13.1 mph

Ride time: 3 hours 50 minutes

Calories burned: 1600

Immediately after we got inside, I made protein recovery drinks for us. Almond milk, unflavored whey protein, chocolate syrup:

These were good! John doesn’t do recovery drinks, but I had him drink one this time because of the length of the ride.

I also noted my leg:

Chain grease from when I fell over. I look like a noob! LOL

After long rides, we like to walk so as not to stiffen up, so we walked up the street for a couple slices of pizza and did a nice 1 mile recovery walk. Check out my windburn!

I hope the spring winds settle down soon. I mentioned to John about how much more I hated riding in wind more than doing hills and his answer was “Well, hills have to end, the wind doesn’t” - so true!
