A day’s eats

I thought I would get back to being more accountable on the blog with food and exercise, not every day, but more than I have been. So here is today. My general goal is around 1500 calories per day give or take.

Breakfast was oatbran cooked with a mashed banana, egg whites and topped with 1 tbsp of Nutella.

With my coffee, 480 calories.  A lot of times, I have almond milk in my coffee, but decided to go back to milk instead. This meant having less of the topping on the oatbran to keep the calories the same. I usually have about a cup of milk divided between my 3 cups of coffee.

Interestingly enough, this breakfast lasted me until lunch. Was it the milk?? Curious.

Speaking of lunch, that was 2% Fage with apple/cranbery topping:

310 calories

I am really busy at work now. This new account I am on is busy. We have to work on the payment for it so I get compensated enough. They sort of threw a number in the air to the client with room to wiggle, and we’re going to have to wiggle 😀 The days go by really fast, now.

Afternoon snack – latte with a little honey drizzle and some dried pineapple (measured half serving)

180 calories.

Dinner was pretty standard. 5 oz potato with a wedge of laughing cow cheese and topped with BBQ chicken. Plus broccoli for  a change 😉

About 415 calories.

I took all the pictures on my phone. I really notice a different between the phone and my Rebel. I used to think my phone took great pictures, which it does, but the camera is such a step up. Lori, remember to use your camera for these pictures…

Exercise for today was a 25 minute walk and some strength training:

  • Squats – 3 sets of 10
  • Dumbbell rows – 3 sets of 10
  • Stiff-legged deadlift – 3 sets of 10
  • Dumbbell shoulder press – 3 sets of 10
  • Reverse fly – 3 sets of 10
  • Dumbbell chest press – 3 sets of 10
  • Crunches – 3 sets of 15

That leaves me about 100 calories to have a snack with tonight at the coffee shop. Likely a decaf drink and a few bites of something John gets. We have a library/coffee date tonight. 😀

Isn’t is amazing how fast those 1500 calories dole themselves out? Sigh. You know, the reason I started drinking black coffee is because I used half and half and when I realized how much of it I used… well let’s just say I get your one cup of milk. So, I switched to milk but didn’t like the taste anymore so I slowly went 2%, 1%, Skim, then black.

Yes, the food above is fine for meals, it’s the little snacks and things that will put me over ‘budget’ – and that is the hardest thing. I have to remember that it is okay to be a little bit hungry for the next meal and not always satisfied 😀

Calorie counting is no fun but it’s super important for me. I’m also trying for around 1500 calories. I have tried black coffee a few times and just can’t do it, so I’m trying to slowly reduce my 1/2 n 1/2.

I think your camera takes great pics!

I’m not interested in black coffee. It tastes flat to me. There are fat soluble flavors in coffee that are brought out with the dairy. I’ll just work around that LOL!

These food days are helpful to gals like me, Lori, so thanks for posting the pics. I would like to get down to 1500 calories per day, but man, I hate counting calories!!!

I could probably do with eating less than that to lose since I have a sedentary job, but it’s just too hard LOL!

The milk vs black coffee debate is always interesting to me, because I love a cup of strong black coffee, and dairy makes it taste bland. Weird how our tastebuds are so different…I think that must go along the lines of people who love cilantro (me) and people who think it tastes like soap.

Milk is a good protein source, and almond milk is not; maybe that’s why it got you through to lunch?

I cringe when I see so many people drinking almond milk because of the issue with almond orchards in California and the drought. Crushing almonds to turn them into ‘milk’ just seems wrong somehow. If you don’t have a problem metabolizing dairy, why drink your almonds? They are so yummy and crunchy whole.

I find that I need to have a high protein breakfast to keep me full longer than a couple hours – when I had oatmeal with fruit, while it was delicious, I found myself thinking about lunch at 10:30, when if I have 30 grams of protein at breakfast, I can wait until after I get back from my lunch walk and eat it at 1:30 no problem. 😀

    Nice meals!

I am still working on getting good food photos with my Nikon. Food photography is a bit tricky, especially when it’s dark. Right now my phone makes better food photos.
But for the other things, the Nikon is so much better.

Gosh you eat odd, sorry. What the heck is oat bran? And all that sweet stuff before you’re standard dinner. Funny how were all so different but hey it’s working for you that’s for sure.
