Let’s talk candy corn

Okay, it’s time to talk candy corn. I know there are a lot of you who don’t like it. I love it! Funny thing is that a lot of people associate candy corn with me. Sad and funny at the same time, don’t you think?

candy corn

Anyway, as a candy corn connoisseur, there are certain rules about candy corn.  The first is freshness.  Stale candy corn is terrible.  This is why I only eat candy corn in the fall when most is consumed and what you get is fresh.  Don’t be buying any convenience store snack bag of candy corn in July and expect it to be good.

The other is brand. I am very particular about the brands of candy corn I like.  You can’t just go and buy any old candy corn.  Best brand?  Zachary’s.

ccorn

It has the best flavor in my opinion.

The other thing about candy corn?  You cannot mimic the flavor in other things.  It’s like fresh strawberries. Any kind of strawberry candy or muffin or whatever just doesn’t taste like strawberries.  So just say no to this:ccoreoMost definitely say no to this:

mmcc

It’s just white chocolate colored like candy corn. Imposter!!!

The other thing is to stay away from candy corn that has been adulterated.   This means none of this:

pscc

No, no, no.  JUST STOP IT!!

Candy corn is a simple candy. Not sure why I like it so much, but I do!  We should take a poll and see how many candy corn lovers also love eggnog (I do!), which is another polarizing holiday treat.

I like candy corn the best eaten with cashews; otherwise only a couple pieces at at time for me. I feel the same about all your points on candy corn. 😀 When I saw “Pumpkin Spice” I was like…um, no. Although I confess to liking the halloween colored M&M’s, but not because they “taste” like candy corn.

For the record, I also like egg nog. lol 😛

I usually only use candy corn to make vampire teeth! Cracks me & my daughter up every time!

Wow, I’m such a candy corn novice, but I’m teachable. We do grade checks in Advisory on Fridays and I saw Halloween was on a Friday. I thought I’d give the kids a scoop for sharing their grades with me. Now I’m curious to find out what the brand is. Hopefully my middle schoolers aren’t cc connoisseur:)

Put my vote in for candy corn AND eggnog. Love both….. BUT hubby likes candy corn more than i do and he doesn’t like eggnog……go figure…Hugs! deb

But where do you stand on the candy corn with the brown stripe? Or the pumpkin shaped candy corn (which I guess should be called something else?)

I don’t like the brown striped ones myself, but the pumpkin ones are A-OK with me. But I don’t like egg nog.

I love the smell of fresh candy corn in the store…obviously I cannot be trusted to have it in my house, since they call to me until they are in my belly!

Wow! I have NEVER actually met someone (if you call this meeting) who likes candy corn! And there are others too! It confirms my suspicion that although we ASSUME that things taste the same to everyone, that is not necessarily the case! I do love me some egg nog but it is a big pass for me on the candy corn. But I say CARRY ON! Just remember moderation.

I know – I don’t understand how people don’t like candy corn. I also don’t understand how people can eat cilantro. That stuff I hate!

OMGOSH. There’s something seriously wrong with me, when a post like this makes me sit alone in my house and laugh until tears run down my face!

OMGOSH. Its just so terribly funny to come to a successful long-term weight loss blogger and read a serious review and discussion of candy corn.

And yes, I LOVE candy corn AND eggnog. I swear, candy corn is the poor man’s caramel. I think we’ve had this conversation before…

I like candy corn but haven’t had any this fall.
I’m not going to lie – last year I consumed many bags of those Candy Corn Oreos – loved them!!! I’m sad that I haven’t found any yet this year!

I love candy corn (Brach’s is my brand) and agree, all others forms of candy corn are imposters. I haven’t bought any yet this year – Jeff had his hands on a bag last week when we were at Target, but we decided to hold off. Neither of us has a lot of self-control when it comes to the corn…

I’m with Shelley on the Brach’s regular candy corn. I’m thinking that’s a regional thing, because I don’t recall seeing the brand in your picture.

My candy corn palate is not so sophisticated. I wait until November (or January) to pick it up for pennies a bag. 🙂 Also, I think we discussed last year (maybe on my blog?) that I eat each piece pointy end first, one stripe at a time. Kind of like swirling and sniffing my boxed wine before drinking. LOL

I loved candy corn as a child but have to admit I haven’t eaten any in years. I’m not sure why, I just haven’t.

The only eggnog I like is the liquored up one by Pennsylvania Dutch LOL! Even then, I usually only put it in coffee or have a small shot of it.

What does all this mean? I’m a maybe, maybe?

  12. Jill

I love candy corn AND I love egg nog. My most favorite Halloween treat is the mellow-cream pumpkins, which are a close cousin to the candy corn. And I agree, candy corn is serious business, indeed.

  13. Jeannie/Qlts2Slo

Yes to candy corn. No to egg nog. And I like to eat it stripe by stripe too … and sometimes I bite the point off and put it aside until I have a small mound of white to consume at once. OK, that’s not only weird it’s kinda disgusting when I really think about it. Current plan is to not buy any this year, but I might indulge if at someone’s house who has them out.

Do you guys save the tips because they’re good or because they’re not worthy? I think the tips tend to be not as good and kind of dried out. But not bad enough to throw away. I just eat them first to get them out of the way.

    1. Jeannie/Qlts2Slo

Not worthy? NOT WORTHY???!!! (Taking some deep, calming breaths.) Probably you just don’t have a good brand. Yeah, that must be it, you seem really sane otherwise.

  15. Pubsgal

Love candy corn (and those pumpkin shaped confections that are sort of like candy corn, particularly when topping a chocolate cupcake. Not something I buy – usually the kids get a packet in their Halloween loot and I convince them to share a little. 🙂

I don’t really care for eggnog, which is kind of a bummer because our family does an eggnog tasting contest every Thanksgiving.

Lori, I almost took a picture of the Starburst pseudo-“candy corn” for you that I saw at the pharmacy this evening. Yes, I may associate you with candy corn and cupcakes, but also with gardening, biking, lifting, music, and ninja handywoman skills!

  16. Biz

Guilty! When I see candy corn, I of course, think of you. While I don’t love candy corn, I love me some eggnog! Especially in coffee with a splash of Bailey’s – that’s my winter guilty pleasure!

I am a candy cornaholic. i look for it in september, as a sign of autumn — the harbinger of changing leaves, cooler nights and pumpkins on the doorstep. so i bought my first bag when i saw it in early september. yup. unfortunately, i’ve had this cavity that i haven’t gotten filled yet (new town… need a dentist) so the bag sits like a plump enticement on the kitchen counter, waiting for my eager hands to plunder it. i think my favorite brand is farley’s but this bag is brach, which is okay. but i love the farley’s because the little white tip will just crumble away and the rest will be not chewy but grainy. okay. this is probably why i’m single.
