Labor Day riding

Labor Day was filled with some riding, some working and some birthay party!  The day went really fast.  I did work in the morning.  There wasn’t much, so it was easy to clean out.  Then we decided to go riding.  We had plans to go to the lake.

Things were going well, but then I started to develop a headache and my shoulder stinger came back.  I wasn’t enjoying the ride at that point.  It was obvious that I was slowing John down, so about 9 miles in, I decided to separate and have him continue on to the lake and I started circling back to home.  John had some ibuprofen, so I took that for the headache.

I did mostly road riding on the way home. Here are some shots of road riding that I don’t think I have shown before.

Lots and lots of goldenrod now:

Right along a busy road, there is a nice pond.  Usually there are herons and egrets here, but of course, none on this day 😀

It was really hot and kind of humid. Sure didn’t feel like September!  My headache went away after a while into the ride thanks to the ibuprofen, but the shoulder was annoying.  Sometimes I just get tired of having issues, you know what I mean?

I popped back on the path:

Riding is always good for the soul:

Anyway, I still ended up with a little over 20 miles on the ride.  September 1 is one of the nieces’ birthdays, so we headed down to Saratoga in the evening for pizza and cake.  I was asked to make the cake.  I need to get a cake carrier, because I had to carry it on my lap on the way down!  It would have been a very tasty airbag if I had needed it.

Logan is 15 years old now. Not sure where the time goes!

I was going to make that cake this past weekend and then we got this super hot humid weather that came in so I didn’t want to put the oven on lol! Hey – what Mr. Helen doesn’t know won’t hurt him. 😉

I wonder if the heat/humidity kicked up some pollen that gave you that headache? I’ve been that way all day today – and sneezing like crazy. And I TOTALLY get the whole “issues” thing. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve crossed the issue-free age…

That cake is so, so good!

The headaches have been an ongoing problem for me. I have been getting daily one-sided headaches for the past several months. Stress, apparently, according to the doctor – which I don’t quite buy. I am thinking they might actually be migraines.

Bummer on the headaches – especially if they are daily – no good!! I hope you and your DR can figure that out!!
Glad you still were able to ride some.

Daily headaches? That’s no good at all. And what’s this stinger in your shoulder? Am I showing my age by not remembering that? Anyway, I’m glad you got a little ride in. And I liked the pictures you shared.

Great way to spend your labor day. You can see Autumn is coming in the colors, see it here too. Already lots of mushrooms here and leafs turning yellow/brown. You live in a very nice area, always enjoy looking at your pictures.

About the daily headaches, could also be the Ibuprofen. There was a time I had daily headaches too and was eating Ibuprofen like candy. Then I read on the internet that the Ibuprofen could cause the headaches. So I quitted taking them and had a couple of rough days but after that I hardly ever have a headache anymore. You could try it.

I’ve been so far behind blog reading and caught up on all your news today. Yay! The house is coming along well and I think it is going to be just beautiful. Your new garden has so much potential and I’m sure you are going to have heaps of fun playing with it. Does Pixie enjoy having adventures in the flowers? I just love the scenery on your rides. It’s so very pretty where you live and I love that the vegetation is so very different to what I am used to. I might have to do a post on my local area for you so you can see what I mean! Don’t wear yourself out working on the house – take care of yourself. Bit of tension in your body and mind causing the headaches? Feel better soon.

Ugh on the shoulder issues! Nothing is worse than nothing being able to be as active as you like because of an injury. Walking has been almost non-existent for me this Summer and I’m still trying to rehab my leg.

The chocolate cake looks delicious indeed. Happy Birthday Logan!!

Totally get the “issues” thing – and I think it’s something that, because we don’t want this to be happening, more of us don’t write about. But I suspect this is the way it IS once you hit 40-something…which doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. But know that you have company, sigh…

I still have one shoulder that is not right – it hardly has any range of motion – like I can’t reach back and put on my bra lack of motion. But with everything going on with Tony I’ve put it on the back burner. 20 miles is still awesome though!
