Bagpipes and Sundaes

It really feels like summer now! We had a hot weekend around here.  Need to remember to do early rides on days like this, but we had stuff to do in the morning – and then there was the parade for our town’s Heritage Days.

As I have said before, we live on the main road in town, which is annoying for traffic, but gets us great seats for all the parades!

I love the bagpipes, too:

They are really good!

After lunch, we headed on out to the lake! Very sunny, so I loaded up on the sunscreen today.

I made us stop fairly often in the shade to keep cool.

That’s sweat on my nose and not sunscreen 😀

John was laughing at me taking a selfie, so I took his picture.

Now who’s laughing?  That would be me.

Now for the climbs to the lake!

The lake was busy!

This was about 16.5 miles into our ride.  We didn’t go into Lake George Village, but just stopped here and had a snack and a rest:

Then it was time to turn around.  It’s all innocent looking, but this is the start of a 2 mile climb up.

Then zooming along in the shade.

Our destination was Martha’s!  Mile 22. John missed the first trip to Martha’s a couple weeks ago when I went by myself, so he wanted a visit.  Mine was a hot apple sundae with cheesecake flavored ice cream.  Yeah, baby.

Now I think Martha’s sundaes are the best. They don’t just put the ice cream in and pour a topping on it. They put in some ice cream, then a bit of topping, then more ice cream and the rest of the topping. Their sundaes are very ride worthy 😀

After a fill up of water bottles, it was time to head back home.  Someone had taken the time to work on their property that abuts the path. This was all new.

Foxglove!

I am getting me some of these in our new house.

This is the cinder part of the path that we don’t go on very often.  We stopped here to look at some ducks.

Home, sweet home. You can see the settee project in the background, too.

Not a super long ride, but a good distance on a hot day.

    Looks like a gorgeous ride!
I don’t like ice cream but that sundae looks delicious!
And, random fact – the only time I’ve ever heard bagpipes has been at a funeral.

I love looking at landscaping? Is that Speedwell in the pic? I just moved some in my yard because I thought it wasn’t getting enough light.

Yes, that is speedwell. I don’t know how well that will do in this spot because it is pretty shady most of the time.

What a lovely day! I LOVED hearing and watching the bagpipes, and loved the horses pulling the wagons too. And your sundae? Well, lets just say it makes me want to ride a bike for 30 miles : )

Getting out early is important when you’re a runner too. I just can’t take the heat and humidity like I used to be able to. I guess I’ve de-conditioned myself. But I’m really loving this hot weather!

I bet that sundae tasted fabulous and refreshing!

Well, it really is different exerting yourself in heat and humidity. So easy to get overheated – no matter what.

Looks like a real summer weekend – a parade, a bike ride, ice cream? SUMMER! 🙂

Maybe with biking, you create a bit of your own breeze since you’re moving fast, but I could not imagine getting out in the direct sun to ride/run. Although I did do that recently (run in the sun) – it was not all that pleasant.

Well, it was the low 80s. Hotter than that or more humid and I would have been miserable. Also, we were able to get into the shade for part of the ride. It does create a bit of breeze, but with wearing a helmet I get drenched in sweat.

Looked like a beautiful ride but I’ve been out in the sun recently too and did not enjoy it all that much. And then you had a HOT apple sundae! I laugh with an hysterical edge whenever I see your ride computer. My longest ride so far this summer was 8 miles.
That was my first parade of the summer, thanks for sharing the bagpipes!

I started riding with just a few miles each time. Over the years I have just built up my base mileage quite a bit 😀

Lovely ride and that sundae is totally deserved after that ride on a warm day. It looks delicious!

So happy it’s finally summer, your winter has been so long, so let’s hope Summer will last till late October weather wise.

My Dad LOVED bag pipes, so I naturally love them too. We had them play at my Dad’s funeral, and while at first it would make me cry when I heard bag pipes, now I just smile thinking of my Dad!

    Great ride!

I LOVE foxglove! Please know that it is a biennial – it blooms every 2 years. Plant some 1 year and again the next year and you should get them every year.

Good luck! I am in Western NY and love your pics of the eastern part of the state!
