Bye January!

I don’t like wish time away, but I am kind of glad January is over.  It really was a strange month.  Of course, the cold has just been the worst!  I don’t know if it is me getting older, but it took its toll on me earlier than usual.

I don’t even want to think about the storm brewing for next week, which looks like another foot of snow. It’s early, though, and that can change…please change.

Then there was the whole house delay.  We have been getting addendums to sign to push the closing date out a month and it will get extended each month until we finally close. At least doing it this way will remind them not to forget about us and maybe it will move things along?

On a project note, I bought some fun paint today:

I am going to do a little experimenting for a temporary solution to the countertops in the new house until we replace them. There are some things in the kitchen that will have to wait for a bit and since the counters are in fine shape – just ugly – we are going to live with them for a while before replacing (with my dream of butcher block).  So, I get to play with ideas before we move.  And who knows, I may do our current countertop this way, although that needs to have tile removed first.

I have this piece of countertop from one of my flip houses to mess around with.  Doesn’t everyone have scraps of counter laying around? 😳

I have half of it coated with primer because I want to see the difference in primed and unprimed.  After painting, I will seal it with polyurethane.  The idea is that I will beat this piece of counter up, set things on it and the like to see if it holds up to normal wear. I’d rather find this out on a small piece rather than after I have done a whole countertop. I’ll let you know if this is successful or not!

We are hosting the Superbowl party this year – GO BRONCOS!!  Woo Hoo!  Seems like a lot of people are leaning towards the Seahawks, even though they want Peyton Manning to have a win. Hopefully it will be a good game.  I’ll be doing special nails again 😀

Yes, I was going to say, you probably have all the Niners fans on your side! I was tickled that your Broncos got there!

    Yeay, on to February!

Enjoy your Superbowl. Can’t wait to hear all about it and of course, hope the Broncos win so that it’s even more special for you.

I’m with you 100% – good riddance January!

I’m very interested to see your countertop experiment. My kitchen has seen better days. On Friday I saw a friend’s kitchen reno and now I want real wood cabinets!

I’m happy to see January behind us and will be ecstatic to see February come and go because that means Bill will be finished with his treatments! Yippee! Long way to go, but closer than we were two weeks ago.

I’ve used the Rustoleum hammered finish spray-on and loved it. I’m really curious to see what the rolled on product yields. I have laminate-with-70s-wood-trim countertops, so I’m thinking replacement rather than resurfacing.

The upcoming superbowl has even been in the news here, and we don’t even watch football here. The game won’t be on TV here but news channels picked it up.

I think most of us are always glad January is over. It’s a slow dark month after December and once it’s over we can look forward to Spring although your weather forecast says otherwise. I just looked at our weather for next week and that’s going to look like Autumn: warmer temperatures and lots of rain. Strange weather everywhere these days.

Have fun tonight at the games, hope your team wins.

Rust-oleum has a product out just for refinishing countertops. If this doesn’t hold up you might try that! Go Broncos!!! I’m from Indy and miss Peyton tremendously!!!

They have 2 different countertop fixes – one is paint and one is faux granite. I do trust rustoleum to have good stuff.
