A lesson in patience

So, we were given some news on the new Radiance Manor on Friday. We were supposed to have closed already on it.  Apparently, there are some title issues and the selling bank cannot close until they take care of them.  There were some liens there were missed when the property went through bankruptcy, so this clouds the title and we can’t close.  I sure am glad I wasn’t in the room when that person’s mistake was found out.  These sound like sizable liens and so the bank is going through the route to discharge them like going through another bankruptcy.  So, this delays the closing for about 6 months… or even longer. It could be up to a year.  We were offered the chance to walk away from the deal without losing any money or we could wait.  There really was no question on my part or John’s. We love the house and are willing to wait.  We don’t have to do anything or pay anything because it is on the seller’s side.  We just have to wait… and wait… and wait.

I have to say it is fairly annoying.  We were in the prep phase of moving. Now we have no idea when this will happen.  I am surprisingly not upset about it because it would do no good. We just have to accept it and be patient. We decided to focus on the positives of this delay.  We won’t have 2 houses to  have babysat while we are on vacation.  We won’t have to de-winterize a house in the dead of winter.  We get to enjoy the remodeled bathroom a little longer.  I get to enjoy my garden for most of the summer.  So, not all bad.

So, now we have free time LOL!  John went away this weekend (checking the dome light of the Prius repeatedly   )  He left ahead of Saturday’s storm, thank goodness.

The roads were yucky all day. I did a quick run to the bank and to pick up milk in the morning and realized I wouldn’t be going out any more for the rest of the day.  So, I did some projects.  I am itching to start rehabbing and now that is put on hold indefinitely.  I scrubbed the kitchen floors and then did some touch-up painting. Some people like shabby chic.  I do not.

It was time to touch all this up and make it look fresh again.

It looks so much better!  Need to do the uppers, but there is plenty of time.  I am going to put in a new counter top, too.  We weren’t going to do it because of the move, but I hate the one we have and am going to try an experiment.

Sunday was much better weather and I met my sister, a friend of hers and the girls at a Irish pub/eatery.

I don’t drink much any more, even though I actually really enjoy it.  I just don’t want the calories.  However, I was freezing – like I have been for months now, it feels like.  I decided to get an Irish coffee to get warm.

Well, that worked.  I think it was more Irish than coffee, if you get my drift.   We had food and a nice chat.  They had gotten back from ice fishing, which I was invited to, but I just couldn’t do it!  It was 14 degrees out.  Not gonna happen.  But, I was certainly happy to meet them afterwards… inside!

Ugh – so sorry about the delay – glad that you have already found some positives!!!
And, I’m with you – I don’t think you could pay me to go ice fishing – it sound like torture to me.

I’m so sorry. I do not have patience, especially for disappointments and let downs. Hang in there. I hope it gets resolved QUICKLY.

You have such a good attitude! But like you said–what’s the alternative? That drink looks so good!I’ve never had an Irish coffee, but any drink w/cream used to be my favorite.

I have decided I am not a fan of whiskey. This drink was pretty strong LOL! I loved that they put sugar on the rim, though. That was pretty awesome.

Your attitude towards it all is remarkable! The house will be worth the wait though right?

And now I know what to call my own house: “shabby chic” hahahaha!

I refuse to cry or rant and rave about it. That’s toxic to me and would just make it fester. The house is worth the wait in many ways. It’s a great deal and our dream house. No choice, really.

My couch is shabby chic – or lumpy mushy chic 😀

The delay is a bummer but you have the right attitude to look on the bright side. Maybe it will get cleared up sooner than you think – obviously the bank would probably love to get rid of it as quickly as possible, and maybe it will be a better time to look at listing your old house as well. You never know!

It would be nice to happen quickly, but this has to drag back through the court system, which takes forever. We just can’t get our hopes up.

That’s a bummer that it’s taking so much longer but patience is the right attitude. Although I have to admit that knowing myself I first would jump on the floor and act like a little girl before the patience/acceptance part would land. I know I would do this because I did when we were trying to buy a house and couldn’t get it or it took to long for this madam 🙂

UGH on the house but there are some positives as you pointed out so as annoying as it is – maybe better & with the awful weather back there – might work out for the best….

Looks like you made up for the UGH on Sunday! 🙂

I agree, getting rabid or mopey about the delay won’t speed anything up. (Unless you’re like me, in which the fork-to-mouth speed increases in proportion to the emotional turmoil.)

I’m seriously thinking of trying to build a butcher block counter top. So far I’ve gotten to the step of pricing the 1x2s 🙂

Well, that will certainly require some patience on your part! I would be jumping up and down if I was you.

I don’t like shabby chic either. If you ever think about vacationing in Finland you can come stay for free in my place if I can take advantage of you skills. It’s VERY pretty here during summer! 🙂

I’m sorry about this. I admire your attitude and know that you are going to hit the ground running once you finally get into the house, and in the meantime, you’ll get everything done with the current house w/o having to rush. Looking forward to seeing your new kitchen countertop!

Sorry about the delay, but things happen for a reason, and you’ll be happy knowing that you have a clean title to the new house. Love your positive spin on it though! 😀

Wow Lori, that’s a big slip up on part of the bank. It is disappointing but perhaps it will work out better for you financially as you have longer to save for the renos you want to do on the new house and any work you are now able to do on your current property may increase your profit there when/if you sell the home. It also gives you a longer time to really think about, plan/research what you want to do to your new property. I just LOVE looking at your snowy pictures. I saw snow once about 22 years ago (I was in my 20’s) and it still fascinates me. Love your positive attitude.

We learned that the process of buying/selling is totally different now than the last time we went through it 15 years ago. No surprise after the mortgage meltdown a few years ago, but so sorry that responsible consumers (like us and you, of course) are having to pay the price. So sorry as I know you were just incredibly excited and this just kind of sticks a pin in the balloon!! But it will happen at the time it was meant to!
