Irish Fest!

Saturday was Irish Fest!  Never fear, we did do a bike ride earlier 😀  Just a relatively quick 31 miles round trip to the lake and back:

A lot less tourists now!!

Then it was fest time!  This is a pretty big event. It is held at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds.  There are 3 stages set up with music going on all day from traditional to contemporary.

Some Irish dancers.

I don’t drink very often anymore, but I do enjoy beer. – Guinness!

Woo Hoo!

We were watching the Makem Brothers:

They were good, but didn’t sing enough.  Too much talking!  😀

There were a lot of choices for food and we were really hungry after listening to this group. Kind of left the house in a hurry and with all that riding I wanted to eat!  There were the usual fair food suspects, but also a lot of foods you normally don’t see at a fair:

I ended up getting the colcannon and a scone.  Colcannon is usually a cabbage and potato dish, but this one was done with kale and bacon. No picture because we got talking with someone and I ate half of it standing up.  😳   It was pretty good, although they served the colcannon as a cold salad (it’s normally warm).

There were lots of vendors there selling all kinds of Irish (and Scottish) stuff.

Official Guinness merchandise.

I had no idea there was official merchandise other than beer.

Alpacas!

Not Irish, but pretty darn cute 😀  This was next to a booth selling all kinds of alpaca wool goods.

And for the brave at heart (which would not be me):

Skipped that and went for something more appealing to eat with the next group.

That is the bread and drink! Only $3 for fair food!  I already had eaten a piece before taking a picture, too.

The evening group we watched was Hair of the Dog:

They are a local group in Albany and play a lot around.

I would have liked to stay for Gaelic Storm, but it was getting really cold and we were a bit tired.  Plus I wanted to stop by my sister’s house.  All in all a good time!

Check this out!  After Sunday’s bike ride (which was really cold – starting out at 39 degrees 😯  😯  ), here is where my yearly mileage sits:

600 miles to go!  There are going to be some very cold rides  coming up to get to 2500.

Ooh, will she make it? I admire you already for that kind of mileage–unbelievable! Do you get some Indian summer days there in October and November like we do?

Love Irish dancing, and I LOVE that all those little girls were not “model” skinny, and they looked like they were having fun.

Good choices on the food. what a fun event.

Oh, and I love that you got tired before it was over, because that is totally how I am too.

You are rocking the nail polish! I’ve got to find your tutorial on the decals and send it to my BF.

I am having fun with the polish. It’s a cheap past time. Or rather I make it cheap because I buy cheaper polish 😀

I hope I get the miles. A lot depends on weather. Fall can be pretty rainy around here, so we will have to see. We do get some warmer weather in October, but November is usually chilly and I will be lucky to get more than a 100 miles before it’s too cold, even for me (which is in the 30s). The daytime highs are in the 50s in November, but then there is only a short window of time during the day in which to ride at those temps and I may not be able to. Stupid job…

Looks like you had a fun and very busy weekend. Am I understanding correctly – did you bike ride both Sat. & Sun.? We had a very cool start today, too, but it’s supposed to be near 80 again on Wed. We did get some much needed rain last evening. Hope the weather stays decent for your rides this fall! Have a great week!

Yep – weather permitting, we bike both days. I average about 100 miles a week on the bike, which is about 5 days a week of riding. Most miles come on the weekend.

I was loving the photos but the second before the last picture creeped me out! Looks like the ghost of Titanic’s captain, Edward Smith was jamming out too!

What a fun day! I love it.

You are so going to get in those miles. I know!
Weather has turned to fall her very suddenly, I even put away all my Summer clothes this weekend and put out my running winter clothes. It’s fall!

I can’t retire the summer stuff just yet, we can get some warm days for the rest of September and October. I won’t change my garden flag to the fall one until it is officially fall 😀

    Fun, fun, fun!

We are going to have some REALLY cool weather here too this week. I told Mr. Helen yesterday that even this weekend with no humidity and temps that didn’t even make 70 was making me feel melancholy. Summer just isn’t ever long enough for me.

I’m rooting for you to get your bike miles in!

If you HAD tried the haggis, I would hope you wouldn’t post a picture. Eeek! I’ve never tried colcannon either – we don’t have stuff like that around here. I laughed a bit when you nonchalantly commented about your quick 31 mile ride beforehand (that’s serious miles!!) but when I look at your overall mileage for the year – super impressive. You guys are biking machines!

  7. Kim

Sounds like a super fun day!! I would have passed on the Hagis, too but I love Irish Soda bread – I even made some last St. Patrick’s day!

  8. Elizabeth

Looks like a great time! I always have a hard time at fairs because I want to eat everything. lol I love all things Irish, so I would have loved it. Well, I don’t like beer, though. 🙂

  9. Biz

I’ve never found an Irish soda bread I’ve liked – they are always dry, but give me a scone anytime – weird, huh? And as a beer drinker, I’ve never had the taste for Guinness.
