I can’t believe another year had rolled around and the Take A Bite started again. This is where restaurants in downtown Glens Falls offer tasting portions of their menus out on the sidewalks to try. Everything is $5 or less.
It started last week, but we didn’t go because it was so beastly hot. We like to ride our bikes there. We also rode this morning, so it was a double-dip ride day! I saved up 800 calories of my day to ‘spend’ at dinner.
That’s John’s shadow LOL! It was quite sunny out and very pleasant. In the 70s.
There were different musical groups entertaining.
We checked out all the restaurants to see what they had to offer. There was even a place doing some sushi! This is a new Thai restaurant that I want to get to at some point.
I decided on a wild rice risotto with mango and lime grilled shrimp ($4):
This was really, really good. It was a small portion, though.
John got a fish taco ($4):
It had rice and avocado in it. I actually liked this as well. The fish was hand battered and fresh.
I still felt a little hungry, so I got a mini croissant sandwich with a chicken curry with apple salad ($2 – bargain!).
It was so cute with the little roll! Good, too. Just the kind of chicken curry salad I like. No celery!! 😀
We then decided to have a cupcake for dessert. You all know I couldn’t pass up a cuppie ($3)!
Oreo cupcake. It had an oreo on the bottom, too. This was a very good cupcake. Nice and moist. It was such a nice evening to spend outside. A good mid week break.
Here is how I banked my calories – by burning them!
It was a wonderful evening for a ride, too. I do have to say, the temps are falling fast tonight. It is supposed to get down to 50 degrees overnight! 😯
That sounds so fun. A way to get a taste of specialty foods without eating a huge portion. That wild rice and shrimp sounds delicious! I am going to be making some fish tacos soon. They’ve been on my mind for a while. Now I just have to remember to have tortillas and tilapia in the house at the same time!
It is fun. It’s casual, too – so that fits us to a ‘tee’.
I am very picky about my fish, but I liked the taco John had.
What a neat idea – wish there was something like that around here!
Come out here – this runs for the next few weeks! 😀
Fun Lori. The city close to mine does something like this every year too but we never went there (yet). Might be a nice idea for next year.
It is fun! I like that they do this for a few weeks and they usually have different foods each week.
Oh that looks like sooooo much fun!!!
What other kinds of foods did they have? I would have eaten plenty of the cupcakes though. 🙂
Pretty cool here this morning too. I’ll take it though. I like cooler evenings and temps in the 70s during the day. I’d take it year-round.
There were a lot of different types of food. Baked mac and cheese, pad thai, pizza, gourmet (??) hot dogs, eggplant panini, swordfish (which I almost tried), bagels, gazpacho. Just a lot of different things. Should have ridden 40 miles, you know?
What fun!!!! There are some things like that here BUT they cost to get in… :O
Love that cupcake!
Lori,is that the Thai restaurant on Ridge Street. Aroydee? We went there when we visited at Memorial Day and loved it. Will definitely be on our list of places to eat when we visit Glens Falls.
Yes – that’s the place! Sushi Aroy Dee.
I love going to places like that! I am going to a festival in Chicago downtown this weekend – 250 vendors/food/music – cannot wait! My husband? Hates stuff like that – that’s why he tells me all the time that I have a Mom, sister and daughter to do that shit with! 😀
What a great event. I love little tastings like that! Not sure if I’d have strayed too far from the sushi booth myself! 🙂 Have a great day Lori.
