Thanksgiving blogger 5K and stray kitty progress

Bye-bye warm weather!  It was so warm the last few days and today it was rainy and cold in the low 40s.  I was telling John that I wanted to go lower carb or grain free today, but I really wanted cream of wheat for breakfast.  He told me just to have the cream of wheat – and so I did.  One of the few times I actually did something John told me to do  😈  I made pumpkin cream of wheat with egg whites stirred in, topped with pecans and a tablespoon of maple syrup.

That hit the spot!

I hit the ground running with work today.  Busy, busy, busy.  Which is good.  I was glad because I didn’t want to go out for a run until after it stopped raining, so I was glad there was work to do.  Speaking of running, anyone who is interested can sign up for Alissa’s Thanksgiving virtual 5K. She is offering a lot of prizes as well for doing a 5K  (run, walk,  elliptical, etc) on Turkey Day!

I had the munchies big time today.  I broke for lunch a little early so I wouldn’t keep munching.

After lunch, the mail came and my paycheck arrived a day early! Yay!  One of the few companies left that does not direct deposit.   The weather cleared up this afternoon.

That meant I would go to the bank for my run today.  It’s about 1.25 miles each way, so a good run – and functional.  My legs felt so heavy, though. Definitely was not feeling this run at.all.  One of those “why do I bother with running?” types of run.  Ugh?

Looks nice out, but it was pretty chilly.  John made me one of these when I got back.

Anyway, temps tonight are  going to be 18 degrees.  Now that I have fed Billy and he likes me, that means I have shouldered some responsibility for him. So, he comes in to the shop tonight.  Not sure how he will take it.  He followed me in there today and looked around, so I think he will take it much better than Boo did at first, but who knows?

Here is Billy in the shop tonight.  He came right in, but wasn’t too happy about the door closing behind him, although he got over it pretty fast.

This cat hated people this summer.

He is a very friendly guy now and quite a loud purrer.  I had no idea how friendly and lovey he would be.  He is quite mouthy, though.  He meows a lot. Anyone who wants a kitty, let me know!

We will see if he tries to get out tomorrow when John is out there.  At least tonight the kitty won’t be making any little Billies that will find their way to me…

Wow, that IS one loud purring machine! Amazing how friendly he’s become. And that’s very sweet of you to feed and shelter him, especially in those temperatures – brrr!

I know – he purrs so loud it makes me laugh. I just feel so bad for him being out in the weather and that no one loves him. Well, no one except for me now.

Pixie would have a fit. Plus with John being allergic and already having him deal with one furball – it wouldn’t be fair to him. I do get very attached to these guys, though.

Cats are the great manipulators aren’t they? lol! He does seem like such a sweety that has just had a bad rap…..Jinxy is a talker too. He would probably get on anybody’s nerves who didn’t love him. He and i have great conversations. 🙂 I hope Billy finds a home…..

Hubby is allergic too but is able to tolerate Jinx but i would never bring in a second cat…. i just count my blessings he can handle Jinx……Hugs! deb

Thanks for sharing about the “thankful blogger 5K” love it and Im so up for the challenge! will check it out.
Funny you said you run to the bank and back. I do the same with the supermarket sometimes. Running becomes easier because Im actually running to get somewhere rather than just running aimlessly so I love doing that! 🙂

I LOVE that street scene. What great houses.

LOVE the foam on the afternoon latte.

And LOVE that you feed and shelter poor neglected kitties.

You are the kitty rescue team Lori. I love it how you take care of Billy and Boo. There are a lot of people who wouldn’t bother.

And I agree with Debby about the street, I love your street.

About the lower carb thing, I have the same opinion in this. I’m going to start by eating less bread, potatoes, pasta but won’t be skipping diary or fruits. The plan I used to do allowed only 1 piece of fruit a day which is way too less for me as I eat fruits as my snack during the day and besides that I love fruit, more than veggies. I have no plans to eliminate all carbs, last time eating less gave me already more energy and less IBS problems.

That was some good advice from John: eat what you are craving! Maybe it’s why you were able to do what he said?

You’re becoming quite the kitty whisperer Lori!

Maybe I just wanted John to tell me what I wanted to hear, so I listened to him. 😀 I think he will probably take any of that he can get!

Lori – you are so sweet! I loved the Billy video – cats love you!!! We all do! 🙂

I LOVE that pic from your porch – beautiful!

I have had runs like tours – sometimes it just does not click! 😉

Glad you took John’s advice – YUM!

Awww, he’s having to make up for lost purring.

I’ll be dog-sitting on Thanksgiving and am praying for a nice sunny day like we had last year so we can get out for a nice long walk. Sally-the-labradoodle is good for a 5K, or more.

I love your street – all the houses are cute two stories with large porches. Here most everything is a ranch with no porch (or some tiny slab of concrete with no railing).

Boy he sure was purring like crazy wasn’t he? Poor Billy – he probably really appreciates all the food you’re giving him. Plus he probably hasn’t been loved up much lately. How do all these stray cats find their way to your place?!

The houses are nice around here. They are all old and actually many of them need work LOL!

There is a feral cat population not far from our house and so there are a fair number of kitties around. As to why they show up at our house – my sisters says there is an invisible mark on the house that only kitties can see telling them a sucker lives here.

I always envy your afternoon lattes – yum! Thanks for the link for the virtual 5k – I am definitely going to do it! I still have 2 1/2 minutes to shave off my time to hit 35:00 minutes before November 25 – hope I can do it!

Thanks for sharing the event… I’m really hoping to get 100 people this year! How amazing would that be? 🙂

What a cute video of the cat! Your talking about running makes me want to try to fit a run in today… but I’m not sure that will be possible. I’m going to try though!

I’m currently visiting my brother and his wife.lland their 3 cats. They are too funny, crawling all over wanted to be petted and remind me of you and your cats. 🙂

I would love to do the Thanksgiving 5K, but I’m not sure if I can seriously get it done that morning. It’s a great idea!

Hi Lori! I got all excited about your caramel roll up there and my stomach actually rumbled until I read that it was Cream of Wheat, which I got force-fed as a child. So this post was super funny for that reason.

    🙂 Marion
