Wet Weekend

Busy weekend!  Here I was thinking I wouldn’t get to bike and did my 30 mile ride on Friday.  The rain was supposed to move in, but looked like it was going to hold off a bit so we decided to head out for a morning ride on Saturday.

No destination, just out for a ride.  We were shooting for somewhere around 15 miles as a maintenance ride.  That is my favorite distance to keep the bike legs and get a good workout without getting tired.

After about 9 miles, we stopped for some dried fruit by the library.  It was pretty windy as well.  I don’t even think I have gone for a ride this spring that hasn’t been windy.

We ended up with a 17 mile ride before the rains came in and I got down to brass tacks to make up work from yesterday.

Lots of rain.

I dabbled in a little Indian cooking for dinner.

Chickpeas cooked with tea and some tomatoes and onions.  I will have to post the recipe.  It was quite good!

The rain stopped in the wee hours of the morning and we decided to bike to breakfast.  Well, it was a lot like Wednesday! 37 degrees and windy.  Ugh.  Not sure why we decided to bike, but there you go.   We were a hair’s width from nixing the bike ride and driving. Maybe not really h*rdcore bikers, but more medium core.  We met my mother there after she got out of church.

Wheat bagel with cranberry walnut cream cheese.  Yum!  12 miles under our belt for the day.  That was likely the last ride for at least the next 5 days.  Windy, rainy and possibly some snow this week!

I did start prepping some stuff for the week.  I made up some coconut flour biscuits.

I also headed to the gym and did a workout today, which felt pretty awesome. I am definitely making strength gains.

It is for sure a stay inside, warm, toasty and bundled up with tea kind of evening.

In honor of Earth Day, I will leave you with a photo from sunny Friday of my garden:

John and I decided we are going to get a compost tumbler to put on the side of the house.  We don’t have room for an official pile without it being right next to our neighbor’s driveway (which I am sure they would love), so we think a tumbler will solve that problem.  Something like this:

I want to see how much we can compost and reduce the garbage that goes out in the can.

Now to get ready for another winter like blast!

Now that our visit is getting so close, I’m finding myself looking at every picture thinking, “hmmm, hope I get to see this.” Love the gazebo – where is it? And could you please keep all the tulips blooming till I get there? After all, they are my favorite flower. I’m watching the track of the snowstorm. We are even expecting some in the mountains. Yikes!

Those tulips (other than in my garden) were at the Crandall Library in downtown Glens Falls.

There actually should be tulips blooming still as I think the Albany Tulip Festival is always Mother’s Day weekend.

Yes, I’d already found the info on the Tulip Festival in Albany. We’ll be coming from New Haven, CT on Saturday, May 12th and will probably stop off in Albany hoping to see tulips. That will also be another state capitol we can check off the list! Yippee!

You are totally a hardcore cyclist in my opinion. I can’t deal with anything below 50 degrees. Hopefully your Spring returns after this winter blast.

I wish it would snow here! It has been so warm. Composting reduces SO much of our garbage, and it is good for the garden! You will have to keep us updated on what you think!

Those coconut biscuits look so good! I’m glad you got a ride in before the rain. Hope tulips are waiting for me when I get home.

Yay to getting in more bike rides!

The protein powder I use is I-PLX and I blend it with ice, cocoa powder and unsweetened coconut milk. I recently switched powders as I wanted one that was soy free.

    Happy Earth Day!

How wonderful that you got some bonus bike rides in this weekend! I can’t believe that you might get SNOW – that is just crazy! But I guess the weather everywhere has been so odd that nothing should surprise us.

Two more rides this weekend: very active weekend Lori.

Cooked in tea? That’s interesting, I never saw a recipe that used tea in it.

Weather here is bad, bad, bad. It’s time Spring shows itself because so far April looks more like Autumn.

Hurray for bonus rides! You’re in that snow swath? UGH.

It’s been raining buckets here since about noon yesterday but honestly, we really need this rain. Or maybe just because I’ll be in the sunny Caribbean soon I don’t care if it rains buckets 😉

Not is the snow swathe (thank GOODNESS!!), but our temps are low enough that they put the possibility of snow in with all the rain this week.

I was just thinking myself about how I’d like to compost when I get a house. I love the tumbler idea!

I could go for some of that cranberry walnut cream cheese too – it looks delicious.

I think each month you should post your cumulative mileage so we can all be even MORE impressed. You’re hardcore bikers to me!!

    BEAUTIFUL flowers!!!! Yummy biscuits! 😉

I saw some snow on the news this morn but did not see where it was – was that you?/ HOLY COW! We are even get rain here this week.. isn’t this southern CA??? 😉

So glad you are enjoying the weight workouts! 🙂

No – thankfully that snow was not us! We are going to get wind and rain, with maybe some snow mixed in later this week.

You are definitely hard core, not medium core! The people we bought our house from had a fenced in compost pile. I decided to take some of that when we were tilling our garden – I was in this fenced pen, my husband was on the outside and I was digging my hands in the pile and tossing it over to him – until all of a sudden I felt something move in my hands – I looked down and I was holding about five teeny tiny baby mice!

You have never seen anyone scream so loud our run so fast! It still makes my husband laugh and it happened 10 years ago!

Hi Lori, we have friends with a composter VERY similar to that one, and it is fantastic!!! LOVE the tulip photos and that spring has arrived in your neck of the woods. Have a wonderful week.

Mmmm, you lost me at the cranberry walnut cream cheese. I wonder how it would taste on a coconut flour biscuit. 🙂

Glad you were able to get some rides in this weekend!
