An answer!

Icky weather overnight, but the roads were mostly wet. I fueled up with a protein drink and headed on out to the gym.

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Barbell Squats 4 sets of 10 with 45# bar Lower Body
Close Grip Lat Pull Down 3 sets of 10 at 40# Back
Plank 3 sets of 40 second holds Core
Incline Dumbbell Fly 3 sets of 12 with 10# DBs (20# total) Chest
Stiff-legged Deadlift 3 sets of 15 with 35# bar Hammmies and low back
Bent Lateral Raise 3 sets of 8 with 15# DBs (30# total) Shoulders

I had completely forgotten about planks for a while.  That made them really hard today 😯  Then 2 miles of walking before coming home for breakfast!

I made the banana flaxjacks, and didn’t do proper heat management, so they got a little overdone on the bottom, which makes them hard to flip because they aren’t sturdy enough in the middle.  Still taste the same, though!  It’s all good.

Busy work day.  It was busy yesterday, too.  My clinics were open yesterday.  I had actually forgotten it was a holiday for a lot of people.

The day went by quick before lunch.  I made up a quick scramble of egg and sausage.

In the afternoon instead of my latte, I had my eye appointment.  I tried a new doctor and I liked her very much.  She did a complete exam with all kinds of drops and lights and such and such.  It took an hour – she was quite thorough. I brought along a copy of my labs as well.  She ruled out all the big stuff like Sjogren’s and glaucoma right away.  Apparently, I am having some kind of allergic reaction to something.  Phew!  That is a big relief.

Now the doctor I went to last was very concerned about my thyroid and she thought I had bulging eyes (hence causing the redness), which is the reason she wanted me to get all the labs done and freaked me out.  The eye doctor did not see that at all and just stated that my eyes are large (which I knew anyway).  I wish the first doctor hadn’t gotten me all worked up!

The eye doctor kept saying it was not too serious and that we would get it fixed.  Yay.  So, for right now, we have to clear up the inflammation with my eyes.  So that means steroid drops 4 times a day and wearing my glasses for a week.  Have I mentioned that I hate wearing my glasses?  If not, I hate wearing my glasses…

If this clears up my eyes, then we focus on the immediate stuff that comes into contact with my eyes, like changing my contact solution and my actual contact brand.  She said it was a little unusual to not have any itching or burning and that the redness is constant and doesn’t come and go, but she thinks we can get it cleared up.  I sure hope so!  I am quite relieved.  The nice thing?  She gave me a discount for self-pay since we don’t have insurance.  Finally a break!

I came home with my pupils  as big as Pixie’s are.

I got home just prior to dinner and had some cashews and Nut Thins because I was so hungry.

John offered to cook up a stir fry for dinner.  Heck yeah!

This had chicken, cashews, Kikkoman triple ginger sauce and a boat load of coleslaw mix.

I, of course, had some broccoli on the side!

It has taken my eyes some time to get un-whonky from all the drops.  I had to work tonight since I took off for a couple hours this afternoon  and it was too hard trying to focus on the screen earlier.  I am wiped out now.

I made up an almond milk latte to have while Jeopardy was on!

Now it is time to relax!

Yay for doctors who have the medical knowledge needed to care for their patients and also the human ability to offer reassurance that all will be okay!!!!!

  2. Helen

So glad you found what sounds like a good, sensible doctor who iced the cake by giving you a discount! Now you have your plan of attack and a boatload of relief to go with it 🙂

  3. Lori's Mom

I’m relieved, too. I hope everything gets cleared up quickly. I’m glad you liked the doctor.

I’m so happy you have some hope as to what is causing your redness. For 1 1/2 years I had “unexplained chronic urticaria”. That means really bad hives! I finally figured out it was an intolerance to wheat. Weird. Hope your drops help!

Yay to your eye doctor! Love the discount!!! Hope the steroids resolve the problem quickly.

I have to go to the hospital tomorrow for my eyes and my appointment isn’t until 3, so I have to take Thursday off as my pupils take about 36 hours to get back to normal.

Nice of John to make a stir fry!!! 😀

About sodium, I eat very salty things all the time and have really low blood pressure readings some days and high on others. I don’t think it affects me.

So glad it was good news! Did they check for Grave’sDisease? My aunt has that and I guess it’s a thyroid thing that makes the eyes bulge.

Oh, when I saw the title, I skipped the beginning to scroll down and read the answer! How good to have a doctor you like, who is caring, and who gives you a discount!! After all, you know the insurance companies force them to take a big discount, so why not be fair. I’m relieved that its nothing big. Plus the whole ‘bulging eyes’ thing. Duh. All of us out here could have told her you have beautiful big eyes. Anyway, I was thinking about what you could allergic to. Coconut flour? Broccoli? Sorry, I’m cracking myself up. We all know you ARE NOT allergic to cupcakes or bagels!

That stir fry looks amazing. I always forget about buying the shredded cabbage.

I’ve had a couple of problems with ‘heat management’ in the kitchen lately.

I do wonder what the allergies are to. I hope it isn’t to food! The things I eat every day are almond milk, coconut oil, cow milk and broccoli and I just don’t think I would be willing to give them up LOL!

Yay for the good news! I actually had that happen two years ago and had to wear my glasses for 2-3 months to clear it up. It did clear up fine though It is vexing when docs overreact and worry you.

LOVE the saying on your breakfast plate. 🙂

Glad it looks like a simple problem/solution…and your eye doc sounds wonderful in many ways. I always get a massive headache when my eyes are dilated, and they take hours and hours to go back to normal – I’m impressed that you were able to do any work after the appointment!

It wasn’t a pretty picture working. I actually had my glasses off and my face up close to the screen to see. Not recommended LOL.

How awesome you found a nice, thorough doctor who gave you a financial break too! Not to mention that she figured out what might be causing the problem – glad to hear it!

That’s a relief Lori and that it can be healed. Too bad the first doctor stressed you out so much. Hope it’s better soon.

Sounds like you found a good eye doctor, big-eyed beauty! 🙂

I got those pupil-dilating eye drops once. I remember how wonky it felt for a long time afteward.

Prednisolone? I really hope those don’t have the same weight gain effect for you as the pills did for me! But if it’s needed to clear up the eyes, then you need to do what you need to do! Sorry about the Dr getting you all nervous but I do think the eye Dr is on the right track – likely just needed a contact break and maybe a solution change. Hope it clears up SOON.

What toppings did you put on your pancakes?

    1. Lori Post author

It shouldn’t cause weight gain with the topical drops, but knowing my luck…

The pancake toppings were lemon curd and peach jam (both homemade!!)

I’m so glad you seem to be on the path to getting this figured out! Shame on doctors that freak you out! Don’t they understand we hang on their every word??? Some can be so irresponsible that way….. Hugs girl! Feel better soon deb

What a relief to know that it’s nothing serious! The waiting and wondering and second-guessing is the worst, isn’t it? I hope you find out what’s causing the eye irritation for sure.

    That stir fry looks delicious!

  16. dawn

Glad to hear the eye thing isn’t anything serious. You have the same stove I do 🙂 I haven’t done any ab exercises much since my surgeries, kind of miss them but now they hurt like heck lol. Maybe I will try a plank next time I’m at the gym and see how it feels.

  17. E. Jane

So glad you ruled out some of the “bigger” medical issues. Allergies can sometimes be difficult to get to the bottom of. Also, frequent exposure to the computer can dry and irritate eyes. I have that problem sometimes. So glad you found a good doctor and have a plan. Take good care of yourself, Lori!

  18. Cammy@TippyToeDiet

Nice to know it’s something treatable!

I forget about planks, too, and then when I do them again and find them so difficult, I wish I hadn’t stopped. I almost always make a promise to myself to not plank-lapse again, which usually lasts about 2-3 weeks. 🙂
