October goals!

Thanks for all the comments on the photo shoot yesterday! It’s funny how everyone has a different opinion on which outfit looks the best.

I will think about getting the pants, but also, I have to think about how often I will really wear them.  Since I work at home, I have no dress code and there is the cat with white fur factor. Not to mention that I usually buy consignment and have not bought a brand new pair of pants in years! I guess that is a little sad LOL.

Funny story.  There was sooooooo much hairspray in my hair yesterday.  I mean crispy candy coating amount. It hurt a lot to try to brush it out last night. Well, I had a sweaty night last night since we put a quilt on the bed (which I didn’t need).  I woke up and my hair was stuck to the pillow because of being sweaty and all the hairspray!

Back to the norm today and that called for pumpkin oats!

This was paired with some Peet’s Cafe Domingo Coffee that I recieved through being part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program.  When we lived in Colorado, there was  Peet’s cafe that we used to like going to.

They also graciously sent some $2 off coupons for Peets to buy at your grocery store, so if you would like one, please email me at javaqueen01@yahoo.com and I will mail one out.  I have 5 coupons available, so first come first serve.

Finally, a day to just work and get it done.  I got right to work right through until lunch time!  I made up an open face sandwich on GF bread with peanut flour and jam.

Plus the roundest pear ever.  Looks like an apple, but this one tasted like pear!

With all the doins’ last week and over the weekend, I am just finally getting around to posting my October goals.  Better late than never, right? October is a much more relaxed month for us typically, although the business gets busy this month.

1.  Water conservation.  We just got our water bill, so  this is a perfect time to try this.  I tend to daydream in the shower, which can waste a lot of water. So I am going to get wet, wash my face, then turn off the water to soap up the rest of me and my hair.  Then turn the water on and rinse.  I am curious to see if this has any effect on our water bill.

2. Post a pink picture each day! Like the last 2 Octobers, I will be doing the pink picture with the link to click to provide mammograms to those in need. If all my readers click that, we would have well over 300 clicks a day.  This is a much better way than those cryptic Facebook messages like shoe size and what you are craving to raise breast cancer awareness, don’t you think?

3. Keep going with Pilates 2x a week.  This was good for me and I really need to keep doing that or stretching at a minimum.

4.  Try 4 new recipes this month and post them.  Like last month.  I think people seem to like these as my recipe posts get the most traffic (and the fewest comments…hmmm).

5. Be conscious of wheat.  I am not eliminating wheat, but I am going to reduce it as often as I think to.

A relaxed month 😀

For more relaxation, how about a latte?

Paired with a pumpkin cranberry oat bar that I made for all the ladies that were at my photo shoot yesterday.  Did I mention I love pumpkin?

It felt good to get back to standard fare around Casa Radiance for dinner.  We ate a lot of rich foods last week.

John and I took a walk up the street.  On our road there are a cluster of fast food places all about 1/2 mile from our house. Pizza Hut, McD’s, Subway, another pizza joint, Chinese and Dunkin Donuts.  We stopped in for some decaf at Dunkins and I got 2 pumpkin munchkins (ooops on the wheat here).

I used to love DD, but not so much anymore. It just makes me want to make my own donuts at home!

Pink picture of the day.

Hi Lori. First of all, big congrats on the photo shoot and feature. Can’t wait to hear which magazine/site you’ll be appearing in!!! So exciting!!! And you looked sensational in the outfits. And sounds like if you ever lose your bike helmet, excessive hairspray will protect you in the same way!! 🙂 Love the idea of the pink photos, and also thanks for the click for mamograms. Which reminds me…time for my appointment too!! Thanks!! Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Cute cat mug! Cool idea about the water conservation. I will be interested to know if it makes a difference.

My big plan for October is 31 gluten free days in a row…although my goal since the end of August was to be completely GF, I had a few “incidents” during that time.

There is a GF bakery not to far from me that has chocolate glazed doughnuts…must try one soon.

Funny you mentioned making donuts at home. There was a recipe for them in the latest Hobby Farm Home mag. and I was contemplating whether or not I wanted to try making them.

That is very funny about the hairspray “incident.”

And about the water conservation??? That does NOT sound fun to me. Being all cold and wet while I wash my hair? I’ll be interested to hear what you think about it. But I probably won’t join you in that one. Might try the Pilates though.

The conservation thing isn’t all that fun, especially when it is cold. John was saying we would probably be just better off getting a second low-flow toilet for the upstairs.

If you ever decide to do another grain-free challenge, let me know and I’ll do it with you! 😀

I have a Pilates DVD but I have yet to crack open the cellophane. Sad, isn’t it? Do you use a DVD or a certain program?

  5. Lisa

When I had my photo shoot they used so much hairspray my hair didn’t move! 🙂

I didn’t like the outfit with the white shirt and fitted jacket but the others all looked great!

    Great goals for October Lori.
I actually kind of hate to shower, such a waste of time 🙂 so I get in and get out but R. is a shower dreamer too like you. He always gets his best ideas while he’s in the shower 🙂

That foodbuzz program sounds great, we don’t have that here. We do have buzzer programs but usually not for food. I’ve done it for a while but wasn’t that interested in testing. But only food tasting: I’m in 🙂

    catching up on everything.
SO EXCITED for you on the shoot and you looked amazing.

to my eyes 100% because you were comfortable in your own skin.

    xo

I’m a shower thinker, too! Plus, on lifting days the warm/hot water feels soooo good on my muscles.

I’ve decided that donuts are one of those foods that look and sound better than they actually are. Fried dough, what’s not to love? Until you eat one. Or three. Then you realize they’re not really doing it for you and another few years go by before you try again. Kind of like jumping jacks. 🙂

I am no nonsense in the shower… it’s Mr. Helen who is the shower dreamer around our house. I’ve actually gone in there and asked him if he was OK and he’ll reply, ‘Oh, I was just thinking…’

You should have known to email me, the cosmetics queen, re the hairspray. When I take Muay Thai I go straight from hairprayed work hair into a workout. I get hot and sweaty and my hair is sticky as heck – almost impossible to get a brush through! The solution is to jump in the shower, wet your hair, work some conditioner through then rinse. Voila! The sticky is gone and your hair has gotten some conditioning without shampoo.

  10. Jody - Fit at 53

Lori, due to my curly & frizzy hair, I wear that much hair spray all the time or I would look like I stuck my finger in a light socket! 😉 You can imagine how bad it is after a workout & trying to get it all out in the shower! I should have taken stock out in my hair spray a long time ago although I have changed with time!

LOVE the Halloween mug… course the candy corn dish in some of your other posts is cute & love candy corn!

I think your goals are great – doable which is what we want!

    Off to click!

My mom used to get that much hairspray. We joked that she could fall on her head and BOUNCE!
We tried that method of water conservation when my DD still lived home. I quickly rebelled cuz the water temp didn’t come up quick enough. We all learned to take much shorter showers. DD has her own water bill now, she can lallygag all she wants!
I would like to come to the Casa Radiance Restaurant for a day. All your food looks so good and healthy. I’m one of the ones stalking your recipes.

  12. Tami@nutmegnotebook

No big plans for October here. Just want to enjoy the Fall weather – I love this time of year.

I have been eating a lot of oats for breakfast as well and I really like the addition of pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice.

  13. Joanne

I could never give up wheat. I’ve tried to reduce it in my diet but I’ll never give it up completely. Good thing I don’t have an intolerance!
October is another crazy month for us. There’s no time for goals just “to-dos”. We take a mini touring trip this weekend, fly to Kansas the next weekend, then my cousins visit from the UK the Sunday we get back home. We have a 10K race we’re toying with (in Saratoga!) then a Halloween party. It’s going to get crazy.

  14. Linda Kuil (Frickin' Fabulous...)

I love to read how all of these men are “thinking” in the shower! LOL I think I learned to shower quickly because when the kids were little they barely gave you time to wash the dirty parts! I grew up with one of those valves on the shower head to shut the flow of water off without having to constantly adjust the temperature. My parents had 7 kids and our cesspool just couldn’t handle all of that water. This may sound gross, but have you seen ‘Meet the Fockers?’ “If it’s yellow, let it mellow…” You can also put a water bottle filled with water in your tank and that takes the place of some of the water that would fill it up instead of going out and buying a new toilet. (Google it to be sure.)

On the fast food issue, within 1/2 to 1 mile of my house there is a Boston Market, Burger King, McDonalds, KFC, Friendly’s, Applebee’s, Checkers, Wendy’s, Taco Bell/Pizza Hut, Subway (love),2 Dunkin Donuts, Ralph’s Rotten Italian Ices, Carvel, 5 pizzerias and 3 Chinese food places. I think that covers it all. Thankfully we do not have the disposable income to spend on all of this crap (most of it IS crap). The funny thing is that where I live is pretty much lower middle class, so no one should be able to afford it and keep all of these places in business! People think it’s “cheap” to eat fast food, but it’s so much cheaper to COOK IT YOURSELF!!!

  15. Lori's Better Half

I have ordered the HydroRight dual flush converter for our upstairs toilet! I guess you can review it on the blog if you want…

And correction — that Peet’s Coffee we went to was in downtown Naperville, Illinois, I believe (not Colorado).

I think of you every time I grab pumpkin at the stores. 😛 I’ve been making pumpkin cakes and muffins and had one DD pumpkin donut, which I found out later was 340 cals – not conducive to losing weight and will not happen again unless I eat veggies the rest of the day. LOL

October is a great month! I love that you continue to set goals for yourself.
