Welcome to September! I love September. John and I just said this morning how this time of year is “our time.” We love the cooler weather, the fall leaves, the warm food, football, the approaching holidays. It’s just a great time of year!
I was up and out for day 2 of week 5 for C25K. That was a 5 minute walk, 8 minute run, 5 minute walk, 8 minute run, 5 minute walk. The intervals do make it go by fast, but I hate to say that running is mildly boring for me now. Maybe if I ran a little faster it wouldn’t seem so slow…
I was inspired by fall again for breakfast. I did the banana bread breakfast pudding, but used pumpkin instead with a tablespoon of maple syrup mixed in.
That stuff on top you ask? Well, even if you aren’t asking, this is it:
Maple cream! Squeeeeee! I love this stuff. My mom traded me a jar of maple cream for a jar of my orange marmalade. Yum!
With breakfast in my tummy, I thought about this month coming up. Here are my goals for the month of September.
1. Do 1 new recipe and post it each week. I kind of am in the rut of my typical meals and need to shake things up. A couple slow cooker meals for sure.
2. Keep going with Couch to 5K. I think the next week or two will really tell me whether I can continue or not with my leg. I am not as optimistic as I was in August.
3. Volunteer for something or join a book club/something like that.
4. Celebrate 15 years of marriage on the 28th. We should make it to then unless John really annoys me somehow. LOL.
5. Do Pilates 2 times a week. I need better flexibility and Pilates always does that for me and strengthens my core to boot.
So – goals done. Nothing crazy like in August LOL.
I also decided to celebrate the coming of fall with my lunch bowl – the candy corn dish!
I was sniffing the bags of candy corn at the store to get my high (didn’t purchase yet), so this will have to do for now.
I have not snacked on this granola. I wonder if it will actually go stale.
Work was a slog today. I was really productive, but the one PA that I was working all day is a horrible dictator. Slurred rapid speech, making lots of mistakes. It is hard on the brain to listen to that for very long. My brain is exhausted. It needs it to be Friday.
I was happy to see the latte arrive.
Usually cats love milk. Pixie has absolutely no interest in milk or people food. Which is a good thing. In fact, she does not like a lot of the cat treats either. She just loves the catnip.
Finished out work and went to marinate the boneless pork ribs to grill for dinner. They weren’t thawed yet. 🙄 John was feeling totally wiped from his busy day (as was I), so we decided on cheap date night! We walked half a mile up the street to here:
Pizza time!
This was good, although a bit too much pizza for me. I did have tomatoes and broccoli on it, so I got in some veggies at any rate. Funny how after we sat around talking a bit, I wanted ice cream. Guess it is the wheat. I didn’t have any ice cream, but I thought it was interesting. I will have some blueberries later during Project Runway!
Time to chillax…
Question: What is your favorite pizza topping?
My daughter and I *love* the kitty cat/coffee picture. Re cat not liking milk: Your cat probably doesn’t think of herself as a cat. My dog thinks he’s a furry person.
🙂 Marion
Yay for September goals!!! LOL about making it to the anniversary unless John annoys you. Hilarious. Love the pic of Pixie. Have a great day Lori!!
About the Pixie pic…..I think you should rename her “Caramel Latte.” She matches your latte perfectly….except that’s probably not caramel on your latte.
Mom – I think you just have caramel on the brain right now.
I love Fall and the return of you candy corn bowl. I think my favorite pizza topping is pineapple and pepperoni or sausage (I’m real exotic like that, ha).
I went lighter on my sept goals too. I need to really focus!
I always love your goals, and I look forward to your new recipes. That pumpkin pudding looks pretty fabulous. The pic of Pixie and latte is a classic. It should be on a calendar or something. And the line about making it to the anniversary–LOLOL.
I liked your caveat to #4. 😉
And I can’t even believe you are talking about Fall. That is so far off the radar here it’s ridiculous. In fact, they schedule the college football games at night so the crowds don’t get heatstroke!
Shelley – you should vacation here. You could swim in Lake George. Overnight lows in the 50s or low 60s. Pretty good stuff right now!
Congratulations on your C25K, week 5. I know what you mean about the boring part, but the accomplishment outshines that. Hope your leg does okay, too. I LOVE that the people you’re transcribing for are referred to as “dictators,” especially when you describe one as a “terrible dictator.” I was imaging draconian rules about coffee breaks, etc. LOL Catching up a little, love your grainless 21 days in Aug. I’m thinking that it was the same for me when I went totally flourless in my diet–I didn’t crave the bread/cookies/cake/brownies that seem to keep up a constant siren song in my head most times. I always learn a lot from you. We’re enjoying the dawning of September, too. We’re going on a little bike holiday tomorrow.
We all call them dictators and it does sound funny when you write it out LOL.
Maple cream? That sounds amazing! I must try some :). I’m looking forward to fall too. The colors, the apple orchards, pumpkins I can’t wait!
Great job on the C25k! I agree, I thought it was boring too until I was done with the program. I guess maybe cause I didn’t have to think about anything I just popped in some music and enjoyed the outdoors. The treadmill though, that’s a totally different story…
PINEAPPLE!!!
Your pictures continue to make me want to head that way. Sound like a broken record, but am so envious of your ability to hop on your bike or walk to such fun places. And I am totally with you and John on the “can’t wait for fall.”
My favorite pizza toppings always were sausage, pepperoni and mushroom until Papa Murphy’s came along. Now I love their Chicken, Bacon, Artichoke pizza.
Fall is my favorite time of the year. I absolutely LOVE it. I wish we could add a couple months onto Fall and shorten Winter by a month or two.
I need some pumpkin. I am thinking the pumpkin breakfast pudding would be really good. I also think I need to buy some maple cream.
(cruising their website now…)
Love your goals for the month. I love Pilates and Yoga too to get more flexible. After not doing it for a while I’ve noticed how inflexible I was the first time I did yoga again.
I started cooking at least 1 new recipe a week a few weeks ago and still do that. I like to try new recipes. I’m so bored with the traditional Dutch food, we hardly eat that anymore (i.e. a piece of meat, cooked potatoes, vegetables).
I love September too, except the rains here in Finland, which can spoil my outdoor plans. Nowadays it’s easier when I can replace my walks with several Leslie Sansone workouts.
It’s funny but I’ve also been thinking that Pixie and your latte + topping (cinnamon?) go very well together! 🙂
Honey and cinnamon on top of the latte 😀
Also loving that fall is on the way!!!!!!!! LOVED the making it to the anniversary statement. LOL’d right here alone in my house. 😀 We’re 16 yrs on the 24th…no wonder I like your blog so much…much in common. ‘Cept my husband has to pick up a coffee for me if he’s going to treat – he hates the stuff. His loss…. yes, I have to pray not to envy you being married to a barista that serves you an afternoon latte…oh well.
Crummy dictators – hated that when I was a MT. If only they transcribed someone like themselves once in a while and realized what a pain it is to work like that.
Interesting about wanting sweets after the grain.
Gotta go clean now…TGIF!!
Getting to the store in search of pumpkin today!! BTW, I went to The Vitamin Shoppe yesterday and found Blueberry Flax Meal and Mixed Berry Flax Meal! I also picked up Chia Seeds!! Gotta get some oats while I’m out, also!
I like the idea of creating goals for myself MONTHLY instead of waiting for the new year to roll around. This is the perfect month to start that since on the 13th I will be 40! *GULP* September is my favorite month because of 1). back-to-school time(insert funny Staples commercial here) 2). my birthday 3). my anniversary on the 17th (16 years– “And they never had a fight…”) 4). my husband’s birthay on the 20th (his 45th!) and 5). fall.
Pizza has to be my favorite food ever. Topping? Does EXTRA cheese count? There’s a pizza place near my f-i-l that has the best pizza and they make a meatball and pepper combo that’s out of this world. You need to eat it with a knife and fork (I know, this is blasphemy!) because it’s too heavy and messy to pick up!!!
Extra cheese certainly is a topping!
I STILL haven’t tried pilates. I really want to, too.
I like Fall too. It’s my favorite time of year. October is my favorite month but September is still pretty good too. 🙂
I like Pilates much, much better than yoga.
I am SO excited for fall! It is my very favorite time of year. You’re doing awesome on the C25k!
My favorite pizza topping is feta cheese. SO GOOD.
I made your banana bread breakfast pudding this morning but instead of the banana I used pumpkin also!! 🙂 I’m curious, how much pumpkin did you use? I used 1/2 cup and added vanilla extract and nutmeg. I topped it with pecans and huckleberry honey! Yum!! 🙂
What do you put on your latte’s? They always look so good and professional! 🙂 Mine do not! LOL
When I did the pumpkin, I use 1/2 cup of pumpkin. It needs to cook longer (or did because my pumpkin came out of the fridge). It’s yummy!
The lattes have cinnamon and honey on top.
Yum! I love anything pumpkin!!!!
Lori I love Fall weather too but it still feels like Summer here with temps close to 100! I want that bowl of yummy breakfast pudding! Is the recipe posted here? I will have to take a closer look for it. Breakfast is always a challenge for me, I know I need to eat something but most breakfast choices don’t appeal to me. This looks like a winner!
My favorite pizza topping is pineapple and Canadian bacon.Yummers!

This is the banana pudding. I did the pumpkin one with 1/2 cup of pumpkin with a tablespoon of maple syrup in place of the banana.
Hi Pixie! 🙂
Man, that maple cream looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your goals & that flexibility! So important!!! Good for the core too! AND, looking forward to the recipes!
OK, you know I love candy corn too so loving you pulled out the bowl! I LOVE FALL TOO!!!!
Hot peppers! Great goals! Are you going to take a pilates class or do you have a DVD?
I have DVDs for Pilates.
