Of Markets and Anniversaries

The weather was fairly well a flop this weekend, but we had a good time regardless.  The only clear time was Saturday morning, so John and I snuck out on the bikes to hit the farmer’s market.

The market is small, but actually bigger than it was.  I don’t know why they don’t let in more vendors because there is a waiting list.

John bought some apples and maple syrup.

I bought some jam for my  mom and some rhubarb!

We then went over to the library.

I found my 28-day shapeover book (one of the monthly goals).

We were hungry at this point and decided to have a lunch close to home in case it started raining.  We decided on Cafe on the Park.

This came under new ownership in January and I am not sure the food is quite as good as it was.  I got my usual omelet, but the toast we really anemic.  Have you ever seen toast that small?

The omelet was good, though, and you can’t beat the price.

Then it was just rainy for the rest of the day.

The rain continued into Sunday, which was picnic day at my parent’s house.  It was a combo anniversary/birthday picnic.  My parents celebrated their 45th anniversary on Saturday and my father’s birthday is on Wednesday.

I tried my hand at writing on the cake:

Not too bad.

Note – I did not do the balloons.

I am jealous of my parents’ backyard:

However, with the rain, the food table was set up inside:

Burgers, hot dogs, my  mother’s famous german potato salad.

Tasty:

I managed to do a complete face plant into the trail mix of mixed nuts, M&Ms and craisins.  I got too full with all of that.

We played some cards:

and made my dad sit through singing.

Note the pained smile 😈

I was full, but I somehow managed to eat some cake *and* more trail mix.  I think it is the M&Ms.  They have some kind of power.

We have a week of rain on tap.  A week!  That means I dragged this inside tonight:

I have a Futurama cued up to watch after this post.  I don’t think I could peddle enough miles to burn off half of the M&Ms I ate. 😳

Question:  Do you like M&Ms?

I do 🙂 Even more I love those cadbury mini eggs which someone left a huge open bag in the staff room today! Cursed them and won the battle.

We’ve got rain this week too. I see a little bit of sunshine on Wed and Thurs and I hope I can ride outside!

Your dad doesn’t look entirely pained. 🙂

I can take or leave the M&Ms. Not one of my favourites. Happy Anniversary to your parents and Happy Birthday to your Dad. I recognize that pained face after taking picture after picture of my son on his birthday.

Market looks nice…the beets look great. I love beets!

    German potato salad…mmmmmmm….so good!

Looks like a great weekend…except for the rain. We are getting it too…all week!!!

We had a rainy weekend as well and I was stuck on my stationary bike. I rode while watching an instant Netflix (Killer At Large: Why Obesity is America’s Greatest Threat). Now I guess I need another rainy day to finish the movie, ha. Have a great week, Lori.

Happy Anniversary to your parents and Happy Birthday to your dad!!! Looks like you had a terrific day in spite of the weather 🙂

Do NOT get me started on M&Ms…seriously! I think they are the gateway drug of food.

Happy Anniversary to your parents – congratulations on 45 years!!! Glad you all were able to get together to celebrate, and also Happy Birthday to your dad – woohoo, 70 years young!!!

What a nice weekend even with the weather – fun with family& a nice out & about. We are expecting rain here too this week. CA has had the weirdest weather the past couple years for us…

I do like peanut M&M’s but never ever buy them or bring them in the house! 😉

Its not just the M&M’s in that trail crack. It is the perfect combination of fat, salt and sweetness! PERFECT. It is my nemesis. Somehow I have accepted that chocolate chip cookies (also that perfect combo) are off limits, but I occasionally give in to the trail mix “its nuts, it must be healthy…”

The look on your Dad’s face is priceless!

I puffy heart M & M ‘s! All of them… the peanut, the new pretzel ones, the COCONUT <— OMG!, and the good old plain. See? We're kindred spirits 😉

Happy Birthday to your Dad, and happy anniversay to he and your mom!!! Despite the weather, looks like a lovely day! Have a good Monday Lori.

Another great weekend in your book Lori. I’ve said it before and probably will say it again in the future but I love the things you and John do at weekends.

If you wanted to put that omelet on your toast you had a whole lot of omelet for such a small toast LOL

I don’t really like M&M’s and actually never buy them but I have plenty of other bad habits 🙂

I like M&Ms, especially the peanut and the dark chocolate ones! Also somehow I like the mini ones better than the regular size.

Cute picture of your dad! For my dad’s 75th b-day we took him to Outback and got them to sing to him. He has assured us he will get up and leave if that ever happens again! lol!

Um, yes, I have deemed M&M’s insulin worthy at times! Glad you managed to have a great weekend even if the weather didn’t cooperate.

I haven’t had german potato salad in ages – it was my Dad’s favorite growing up – not sure I’ve even had any since he died almost 13 years ago!

    Happy Monday!

We sure do have some crappy weather in Ny right now. Where’s all the sun?!!!
As for M&M’s, I love them that’s why I don’t buy them. So sad.:(

I love peanut M&Ms! In fact, I had a small bag when I was on vacation. Such a treat!

We’re having cool and rainy weather here, which I’m sure is affecting my mood. I’m hopeful for warming toward the end of the week.
