What’s blooming and dress find!

It’s Friday, so you know what that means!  Time to show off the garden again.  But first, must get the other important things out of the way.

Had a preworkout protein drink:

and biked to the gym.  I changed up the workout a little today in that I didn’t do any chin ups.  I just didn’t feel like doing any, so I left them out.  That’s when I could use a personal trainer, eh?

Exercise Set/rep/weight Muscle worked
Stiff leg Deadlifts 3 sets of 8 with 75# bar Lower body
Wide grip lat pulldown 3 sets of 12 at 50# Upper body
Standing leg press 3 sets of 8 with just machine weight Lower body
Nosebreakers 3 sets of 10 with 25# bar Triceps
Captain’s Chair 3 sets of 10 Abs
Push ups 3 sets of 10 Chest
Upright row 3 sets of 10 with 25# bar Shoulders

Today was a run day, and I decided that I would just hop on the treadmill and do it then instead of going back outside later. I did 3 miles and was soaked! Even though there was AC on, it makes such a difference to actually have the breeze from running outside on you.

Then I biked home.  That’s a lot of exercise!  I burned 600 calories and I was hangry for brekkie!

I cooked up some banana oats and topped with peanut butter and raspberry fruit spread.

I actually had some PB off the spoon, too.  Told you I was hungry!  I did make myself eat slowly, though.

Then I read blogs for a while before I even showered.  I told John I felt like I was being lazy and he reminded me that I had just done that workout.  LOL!

Spent the morning making almond butter, baking some bread, roasting coffee and puttering around outside.  This day is a picture perfect summer day.  The garden is just busting out all over with the schedule of rain and sun we have had:

Black-eyed Susans are starting:

Veronica (speedwell):

Clematis (Snow Queen) – and I thought this one was lost to frost.  Turns out only the old growth died.

My scentimental rose bush is bursting!

This smells absolutely heavenly, too.   Love it.

Daylilies are still going as well.

Can you believe how tall these are? They have to be about 4 feet tall.  Flowers and gardening just make me so happy.  I wish I could find year round work in this regard.

Back in for lunch.  But first, I got the bread ready for the oven:

This was made from the Healthy Artisan Bread in 5 minutes book and is the Milk and Honey loaf (with raisins).

While that was baking, I had lunch:

A redux of my curry chicken salad.  Just a couple ounces of chicken, chopped apple, light mayo, and curry powder.  Quick and good!

The bread finished baking and was a success!

Letting this cool was really hard.  I am a sucker for warm bread (or any bread, really).  I made a piece with some real buttah and blackberry fruit spread to have with my latte.

So good.  I can envision french toast with this bread, oh yes I can….

After snacking, I headed out to one of my favorite consignment shops and scored!  I got a work out top, plus the cutest little dress:

This mirror was tilted back, I wish I looked this thin LOL!  Now I need to get a cute pair of sandals.  The best part?  It was only $4.80 !!!  I loves me a bargain.

I was all kinds of happy when I got home and whipped up some pan fried shrimp with brussels and a pear:

All in all a good day 😀  I am thinking about some frozen yogurt tonight, maybe.  I do need to stay out of that bread LOL!

Question:  What is your favorite type of bread?

You have titanium willpower to stay out of the bread! I know I couldn’t do. Darling summer dress and as Diane said, you are that thin!

Gorgeous flowers as well. Sounds like a picture perfect day.

So here I am, simultaneously coveting your garden *and* your dinner. (Not for long on the dinner, though, I get to go home soon.) I’d be coveting the dress, too, but I scored a nice green one at our local Goodwill’s $2 clothing sale today! 🙂 Yeaaaay, bargain hunting!

Oh, and favorite bread is sourdough, hands-down. (It was even before I moved to the SF Bay Area! My college town, San Luis Obispo, had “San Luis Sourdough,” which is hea-ven-ly and was a college staple food. Their garlic sourdough is especiallly awesome.)

That is a great dress – you lucked out on the length! Looks perfect for summer. I love that so many people did a Fashion Friday today! 🙂

My favorite bread? Homemade herb bread. Or warm sourdough with butter. Needless to say, I don’t keep either around – too tempting for me!

Hope you get your frozen yogurt tonight…I had a mix of cocoa, espresso and dulce de leche – yum!!!

Fun post. I love the flower pix. My black eyed susans haven’t bloomed yet– and I’m a few states south, but I guess they’re a bit shaded by my dogwood. Have you ever looked into getting a job working in a nursery? I think you’d love it. I learned to love thrift shop bargains from my mom and I still pop in to “mom’s boutique” every once in a while and think of her. mmmm, bread. I LOVE bread. I made it every week when I was first married and DH would eat one or two slices and . . . .well, let’s just say, I have a problem with bread. If I was eating it these days, I second the nomination of Sourdough, but I also learned to love peasant German black bread when we lived in Germany when I was little. Yes, definitely with butter–also verboten in my house these days.

Cute dress! And you answered a question I’ve been asking myself as I drive around…. those flowers I want and didn’t know the name of this week are daylilies. I have a good spot for something of that nature. 🙂

I love anything warm and doughy as far as bread is concerned. 🙂

Yummy post! Love love the flowers I need to work on adding more summer flowers to my garden.

Bread..mmmmmm. Yes on the sour dough. And yes on the san luis sourdough–used to have that as toast on a daily basis. That garlic herb sourdough I had a few weeks ago was really speclal. When I used to bake bread, I made a country white (it was a mix) and added lemon rind and rosemary. Heaven…

And yes on the fro yo. I was in the bay area today and you know frozen yogurt was on the menu. I just love the ‘original tart’ at most of these places.

75 pound bar on the deadlife–IMPRESSIVE!

And those shrimpies look darn good!

Laughed at the bargain ‘competition’ between you and Pubsgal. I haven’t scored any clothes at the thrifts lately. Guess that’s because I haven’ looked much.

Love the dress Lori, it looks great on you.

The flowers in your garden are really very beautiful!

I’m not surprised you were hungry after that workout 😆

  8. Susan

It probably doesn’t surprise you that the black-eyed susan’s are my favourite 😉 I wish I had a green thumb!! My sister left me in charge of her balcony flowers last weekend, and I forgot to water them one of the two days. I killed a pretty little purple flower 🙁

That bread looks amazing. Few things are greater than a slice of bread warm out of the oven!! My favourite is sweet molasses brown bread. Although I also really love a dark rye and anything seedy (“birdseed bread” is what I called it as a kid)

That dress is precious! It looks especially good with the socks. XD

You seriously want me to choose just one bread? Not that hard actually. Fresh pan bread from J. Pace in Saugus, MA. When I visit my sister we go there and buy a loaf and eat it in the car before we even leave the parking lot. It’s a good thing that I have to fly up there to get this bread so it’s only once a year. Definitely worth the splruge. The crust is so crisp and the crumb is fluffy and moist, it needs no butter.

I have that bread book! My sis sent it to me! I have to be careful as I am the only one that would eat the bread in this house & seeing that I love it as much as you do.. well, a whole loaf & me.. not a good pairing! 🙂 Can I have a piece of yours!!!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lori, you look so cute in the dress.. really! Look amazing along with your garden! You need to wear the dress & take a pic in front of your flowers! 🙂

My fav bread.. all of them! I go healthy too & love them all!

Since I went gluten free, bread and I have have parted ways. Your bread looks really lovely though and I can imagine how great it would be if you made French toast with it.

I have tried gluten free bread, but it doesn’t taste good to me.

    The Snow Queen is gorgeous!

Love the dress! I’m going to have to use that trick of tilting the mirror back.

I love any kind of hot fresh bread which is why I can’t be trusted with my own bread maker. I wouldn’t be able to resist it. Dip it in a little hot pepper oil and parm cheese … mmmmmmmmmm….
