I took today off of work! Yippee! One reason was just to take a break, and the other was to do some doggy stuff. John and I headed out for Panera Bread for breakfast. I asked for a chocolate chip bagel, but the guy gave me a cinnamon sugar one. I usually correct mistakes, but I actually like this bagel, so I kept it.
Then it was time for me to do Pre-novice obedience. Remember when Storm and I graduated obedience? Colleen asked if I wanted to do Storm at this show. It is somewhat informal. Since I was unable to work with him this last month (thank you, back) I decided to go for exhibition only, which meant I could correct Storm in the ring.
It was basically walking on lead:
Figure 8s (around people):
Sit/stay:
stand for exam:
The judge telling me Storm was being very good:
First section done. Then we got a slice of pizza because I was sta-harving at this point. Not as good as John’s from yesterday, but when you are hungry anything tastes good.
Then it was time for the group long sit and lay. The dog has to sit for 1 minute while you are at the end of the lead.
I have my arms crossed because that is going to be Storm’s ‘stay’ command. He did good for this, except he should be straight and looking at me instead at other things. At least he stayed still.
Then it was lay down and stay for 3 minutes. Long time for a dog.
Storm started getting up after about a minute, so I just had to mash him back into the ground.
Lots of other doggies at this show. Let’s see how many of these you know. Answers will be at the very bottom.
A) Remember what kind of dog Storm is?
Storm did really well for me, especially since we had an extended break! He was a very good doggy.
Got home and had another snack, because that pizza didn’t last long. Hadn’t had enough protein for the day! So I made 1/2 of a lavash wrap with laughing cow, apple slices, and cooked ham cooked in a pan.
Yum! We stopped at the smokehouse and stocked up on meat. It is so worth the trip there because everything is fresh, local and inexpensive!
Then it was latte time.
I was feeling pretty snacky today. Like bottomless pit snacky. So, I had a pear before dinner.
Usually when it is hot I lose my appetite, but not today. 85 degrees out, can you believe it? And we had snow on Tuesday.
Dinner time was some breaded pork that John cooked the other day.
With hot sauce. 85 out and I am eating hot sauce??
I have to say it feels great to have a day off of work! I love not working on Sundays 😀
Think we might go shopping tonight and get some shorts for John. His are all too big now. Maybe I’ll get some more for me, too
Here are the breeds:
A) Clumber Spaniel B) Dandy Dinmont C) Italian Greyhounds D) Cane Corso (Italian mastif)
How did you do?
so glad you took the day off 🙂 i love doggy obedience and your pups is doing so good 🙂

I got the Italian greyhounds and thought that last dog was a mastif and something…so maybe 1.5 points for me.
I wish my dog would sit for 3 minutes, his puppiness always gets the better of him.

I got A and C – not bad – and I can’t believe I remembered what breed Storm is. Looks like that was fun – I enjoyed doing puppy kindergarten with Paco and would have liked to do an agility class with him, but they are few and far between in our area.

I got the greyhounds…well not that they were from Italy but still 😉 That would be funny as hell trying to get my dad’s american bloodhound to do all that your dog does!

I got the Italian Greyhounds, but not the others.
I suppose this means I shouldn’t get so irked when people ask me what breed my dog is, because other people don’t always recognize breeds either.
Still… wouldn’t you think a German Shepherd Dog to be a fairly easy breed to guess? I swear, next time somebody asks I’m just going to say ‘poodle.’

I got lost in the photos. What a good dog (and fabulous owner 🙂 ) Um…what was the question again?
I have a flat coated retriever. Everyone thinks he’s a black lab/golden retriever mix. Nope. He’s got Newfoundland in his blood 🙂 And he has the size to prove it.
You’ve got the cutest darn dog.

Actually, my sister owns Storm (and she is fabulous, too 🙂 )
Ha! You know I wanted to ‘win’ the dog naming contest! I thought those were whippets–they look too big for IG’s but maybe the people are little? Or maybe I haven’t been to enough dog shows lately. And I guessed dogo argentino for that last one. Of course I remembered Storm, and I also guessed Dandie Dinmont right. You look fantastic showing Storm. I mean you look good yourself, but you also look like you do a really good job showing him. No problem with the limping/speed changes?
.-= debby´s last blog ..The Plan =-.
Thanks for saying I looked good LOL! I think I did pretty well for my first time in the ring. I was kind of nervous. I did good on the speed changes, as I am not really limping too much now, at least earlier in the day, so all was good. I wasn’t super fast, but I did change speed 😀
It’s so funny how I asked about a dog breed in my last post too. I saw a really cute (huge, huge) dog yesterday in the street but I didn’t know his/her breed. Would you happen to know?
The wrap and dinner look delicious!!! Making me all hungry now~~

Dandy Dinmont sounds like the name of a character in a novel. lol
Looks like you and Storm had a great day off.
I wouldn’t be able to sit still for a minute either without my eyes wandering off. 🙂
Have a great Monday!

That’s exactly what that dog was named for – a novel character!
I miss my dogs. we had talked about not getting/adopting new ones until the child is in kindergarten (its too hard to lose them and Im still recovering) but Im caving early 🙂

I want a dog too. We have one more kitty coming to live with us and she will be here later in the month. Once we get the three cats playing nice with each other-we can think about a dog. I can’t wait.

I watched Best in Show this weekend, so these pictures reminded me of that. 🙂 I don’t reccomend the movie though. haha That’s just crazy that you had snow on Tuesday and now it’s 85 degrees! It’s that time of year when you don’t know what it’s going to be like outside, crazy weather! Hubby put his shorts on this weekend and they’re HUGE on him, time to get new ones for him too!

I actually thought the movie was really funny! 😀
Congrats to your hubby needing new shorts.
Lori, that bagel looks soooooooooooooo good! The doggie pics were cute! Thx for sharing! I don’t really know dogs so I did not do too good & probably I am not good at staying either! 🙂

Love to see you with Storm. In fact: you look like a great doggie trainer so …. please come over here to teach my little monster the basic stuff 🙂

I knew the greyhounds, but not that they were Italian. (Le mie scuse!)
From the photos, it looks like Storm did really, really well. Of course, I could be biased because I think he’s beautiful. 🙂

I only got one and a half right! Got the greyhounds but forgot what kind of spaniel Storm was. I want one of those mastifs!
That bagel looked mighty tasty!

Great pictures of the dogs! I couldn’t even begin to guess! We have a sheltie which looks like a miniature collie. People always say, “Oh a baby collie.”
Glad you had a great time!

Well, the first two I guessed the families correctly (spaniel, terrier), but not the breeds. I don’t feel so badly that I guessed “Whippet” for #C now, since Debby also did! (Like her, I was thinking, “Hmmm…small people?”) Epic fail on #D, though. Sure looks like you had a lot of fun!

Love the puppy pictures! I got the breeds right, except the Corso. Are you sure? S/He looks like my old english mastiff. Thanks for the update, and great job with Storm! Wanna come help us get our hounds to sit/stay? 😉

Yes, that’s a corso. We talked to the owner about it.
