I've been working on my bread making skills. Slowly but surely its coming along. I like the New York Times no-knead bread. It's simple and super tasty.

I love this book so far! I made the basic whole wheat recipe for my first batch. This recipe only contains whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, water, wheat gluten, yeast, and salt. I also sprinkled a few poppy seeds on the outside after brushing with water.

I was amazed how little actual prep time is required. There is no kneading, you just mix the ingredients, and then do a lot of waiting for the dough to rise and rest (minimum 2 hours 40 minutes), before baking 30 minutes. My loaf came out perfect on the first try, with a hearty crust, and a nice flavor despite the simple recipe.

The book also contains a full range of other recipes, ranging from simple to complex.

I can't bake bread to save my life. Even with the bread machine my sister gave me, the bread still doesn't turn out. LOL. That's okay though. I am too busy lately to have the time for baking. :)

oops, I didn't even notice the Shape reference in your entry--posted my comment before I'd read your post! Anyway, looking forward to hearing more on Monday...and yes, weight loss is certainly never easy!

I'm for sure a bread EATER and I do bake bread using my bread maker but very rarely do it by hand. I love homemade bread WAY too much. My waistline would balloon in a week if I baked homemade bread. I'm a carb lover.

I love roasted beets. I use the rds haven't tried the white.
I'm going to go look for Shape next trip to the store. The book looks interesting. I have been using the recipes from King Arthur flour to make bread. They come out great and are not hard to do .

I'm not much of a bread maker, but I'm a beet maker! How are you going to prepare yours?

Also, I LOVE my foam roller, too :) It always hurts so good.

I have the book Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day and have made their basic recipe many times. It is really good bread (but takes more than 5 minutes!)

Your reference to parsnips makes me wonder if you read Angela's blog. Her recent post regarding parsnip fries looks very intriguing.

I am obsessed with beets! You'll love them. I think. They are quite sweet.

I can't wait to see you in Shape! I've made bread once. It was successful, but labour intensive. Hopefully my new roommies have a stand mixer so I can do it more often ;)
