Giveaway – Lose the Diet book!

I think this is an appropriate book for this time of year as so many, many people jump on the diet bandwagon in January to lose weight, and yet so many of these people have made resolutions before and not kept them.

Lose the Diet is a book that will help you explore the mind-body-soul connection to learning how to eat, move, breathe, and feel to get to a happy weight.

Kathy Balland explores several different techniques in the book to help you become a mindful eater and exerciser using things like: the EFT tapping technique, meditation, breathing, and journaling.ย  Also, she talks a little bit about the proper way to nourish your body.

I think people who like the Beck book will like this one as well.ย  It goes into a more spiritual and emotional level and how to work on the whole package to be happy.

To be entered, just leave a comment below with the craziest diet you have ever tried.

My mom & I (eons ago) attempted the cabbage soup diet. Luckily for us, we loved it. On the downside, it led to bathroom trips every 30 minutes.. like clockwork. We gave it up soon after.

HA! The more appropriate question is what diet haven’t I tried. Opti-fast, Fen-phen, Atkins, Hollywood diet, vegetable soup diet, grapefruit diet, Fit for Life diet, South Beach and on it goes. The craziest had to have been Opti-fast, nothing but shakes for 4 months. It’s funny, the only thing that really works is not being on a diet!

Craziest diet I ever did was my anorexia diet in high school. One apple, one fruit-at-the-bottom yogurt (but don’t eat the fruit), one Alba 77 chocolate shake and air-popped popcorn. It worked…but I don’t recommend it!

That looks like an interesting book! I did some EFT a couple years ago. I always thought it was a really interesting tool once you get past the weirdness of tapping on yourself. I felt it was very useful in some situations! I would like to get back into that again! Do you use EFT? What do you think of it?

Great giveaway! I’m in! Gotta tweet…

I always new that your mind and body were connected. It looks like and interesting book.

The craziest diet I’ve tried was Slim fast back when I was just out of high school. Nothing but shakes. Tasty but didn’t work to well for me and I always felt like I was starving!

So many crazy diets it is hard to choose. LOL. I think the craziest was the loma linda medical diet where every day you eat something different along with cabbage soup. Thanks for telling us about the book. It looks like it is a really good read.

Lori, no need to enter me since people that are still struggling to lose weight need this more BUT had to say that the craziest thing I did to lose weight: EAT TO LITTLE! Tried to survive on lettuce & salads & way too few calories, not enough healthy fat & note enough healthy carbs! A lot of women do this so thought I would mention it… DON’T! I eat a lot more now than in my 20’s & way healthier!

You don’t need to enter me since I will not have time to read anything except school stuff for the next few months! I just wanted to let you know that I received the cookbook from your giveaway and have cooked a couple of recipes from it- very good too! I’m trying to incorporate it into a post soon. Thanks!

Sounds like a good book. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t decide if the cabbage soup diet was crazier or the only-white-rice for three days diet. I think the rice for three days was crazier. I tried it a couple of times years and years ago for a quick fix. Silly me…

My craziest diet was green grapes. I would count out 300 calories worth of grapes 3 times a day. Total of 900 calories for the day, stuck with this for about 4 weeks. Lost a lot of weight but then gained it all back as soon as I began to eat again!

  13. Rachel

The craziest diet I ever tried was the one where I read diet books constantly, searched out healthy recipes, planned to exercise, thought endlessly about how I was losing weight, and congratulated myself for working so hard–all while actually never cutting back on calories or getting much exercise. The “mind” diet is the craziest one of all–at some point the BODY has to get involved!

Hi Lori! Fran suggested I have a look at your blog as I have just started with NRL4W – watching your videos is going to be a big help to me as sometimes I can’t figure out exactly what to do from the pictures in the book!
As for the craziest diet I ever tried, this may surprise some people, but it was Weight Watchers for me. I got so obsessed with points that I ended up developing an eating disorder after doing it for six months. I know now I can never go back to that kind of regimented eating, I have to change my habits slowly and stay away from anything extreme. That said, I know WW works very well for lots of people – it just didn’t agree with me.

I’ve tried a LOT but none to crazy. Probably the craziest was the Physician’s Weight Loss (kind of like Medifast) where you’re only eating (drinking mostly) 800-900 calories a day. I lost about 100 lbs and gained it all back plus more.

I’ve only dieted 4 times in my life. Once in college to lose the Freshman 15. I suppose that was the craziest as mom and I both ate 1000 calories per day.

The other three times I used Weight Watchers, although I have said good-bye to WW and am now counting calories and watching nutrients.

I have gone to an EFT therapist? (don’t know the correct name for the person who does that) and it did nothing for me. I have downloaded a manual to do it myself, and still nada. It makes me a bit sad because I think it sounds like a wonderful technique. Looks like a good book. =)

My freshman year of college I did Nutri-system. This is when you had to go in each week for a meeting and weigh in. The food was gross! I lost 40 pounds, got to a point that I physically could not eat the food anymore – just the thought of it made me sick. I quit, secretly threw out the rest of the food and quickly gained the weight back.
