Holey Donuts and fall flavors

Phew – I have too much to say and not enough posts, so I am sorting out stuff  (plus I don’t want to bore you all).

Before John’s race today, I had a lovely fall-inspired breakfast with whole grain cream of wheat, pumpkin and dried cranberries, topped with slivered almonds:

Delicious!  Cream of wheat has 50 less calories per serving than oatmeal and yet, I was so full after eating this!  Yay for whole grains!

It was really weird just watching in this race today.  I have always been a participant, so it was weird waiting around.  I just decided not to do this one with the duathlon coming up, plus a 5K on Halloween.  I don’t need to do it all!  I got in some pretty pictures at this race spot:

After John ran his fabulous race, he wanted a bagel – and you know I am not going to turn down an opportunity for that!!

More flavors of fall with this cinnamon apple bagel.  Sooooo goooood!!!

Good thing this place is 15 miles away or I would be there every morning 😀

I was lucky enough to win 3 boxes of Holey Donuts in a drawing on Nutricious is Delicious, and the donuts arrived packed in dry ice.  3 kinds:

Sorry about the photo quality here.  I was pretty excited to try these after seeing them everywhere on the net.  I tried a couple donut holes: Vanilla Raspberry and Boston Cream:

Heated up in the microwave.  I have to say that I was a little underwhelmed.  The flavor was good, but they didn’t taste like a really good, hot and fresh donut.  I thought they were a bit dry.  I feel a little bad saying this, because I am thrilled to have a chance to try them and the company was very generous.  John had one of the regular size donuts and said the same thing.  Definitely a nice snack, and it will take a while to get through the boxes (Mom and Dad – guess what??), but I wouldn’t be ordering them for delivery.  If they had a store where they are made fresh (which I hear is in the works), that would be another story.

Went out for a gorgeous bike ride today.  John did his own brick by coming with.  We did 14.5 miles.  I love biking so much.  I run a lot, but I am a biker at heart.  I am getting really excited for next week.  I just hope it isn’t raining.  If it is anything like today, I will have a great race.

Found silly Pixie laying in one of my plants today.  I don’t know why she wanted to lay like this!  It doesn’t look very comfortable and she was there for a couple hours.

I will have a new veggie experiment for tomorrow that I actually had for dinner tonight.  Yum!  I need to sign off before this post becomes to epic.

Question:  What weird thing does your pet do?

Awww, that is such a cute photo of Pixie! Pets can be such addballs sometimes 😛

That apple cinnamon bagel with cream cheese sounds diviiiine! I’m not a huge donut person. Pastries in general don’t really do it for me. If I want something sweet, it’s usually just chocolate I’m after! 😛

I couldn’t have that many donuts or donut holes anywhere near me — feeling very snacky these days and I’d likely eat them all in one sitting! Lori, I’m sorry to be a pain, but what’s a PR? Also I’m not sure what a brick is? I assume these are training or racing terms and I figure a brick is when you bike and then run or vice versa..? Just thought I’d ask tho to be sure, since they come up frequently in your blogs. John just did a PR, you wrote. That doesn’t involve Puerto Rico, right? Is it a type of footrace? Excuse my ignorance, please!

Sorry- PR is personal record. Sometimes you see PB for personal best as well.

A brick is training to different sports at a time, so when I do a run followed by a bike ride, that’s a brick.

I would need to write an epic to tell you what weird things my cat does but i ‘ll give you one example…….Me, sitting on my L-shaped couch in the living room , quiet , peaceful, maybe TV on or reading a book …..then i hear little feet running down the hallway da- dum, da- dum , da dum , da-dum…..Then Jinxy tears around the corner of the couch , runs and jumps on the back of the couch one section away from my head and waits………wait for it…..for as long as a minute easy,…then i turn my head real fast and look at him and he literally HITS the wall and slides down behind the couch only to do it all over again! My explanation doesn’t do it justice, you should see him. Its hilarious.
Wow those donuts would be out of the house so fast your head would spin! 🙂 And if the taste wasn’t there i wouldn’t spend another calorie on them ! Love your post girl! Thanks! JInx!

The funniest thing that one of my old cats did was drink my wine. Back in the day, when I used to drink, he would hear the clink when I took the wineglass out of the cupboard and instantly would be on the counter, waiting for me to pour it. I would have to fight him to get the first sip, but then he would have his taste (gross, I know, but I figured the alcohol would offset any cat germs). Funny thing is he never acted tipsy! But danged if he didn’t love his wine. I miss that cat – Taz – he disappeared one night about 5 years ago. 🙁

I’m loving all the fall flavors! Especially that cinnamon apple bagel. Mmm! Haha, my cat in Michigan is CRAZY. He loves to relax on his back with his paws stretched WAY out. He looks like he’s been paralyzed, but he’s totally chill.

SO GLAD you got to try the donuts! I’ve experienced the dryness too but have heard if we put a cup of water in the microwave with the donut or let the donut defrost on the counter, it won’t be so dry. I have yet to try those two ideas but just a thought.
